  1. note that this title isnt "Human Rights Watch urges protesters to respect Democracy"- makes one wonder, obviously Democracy isnt a major consideration when the Reds can be/ are voted in. Human Rights Watch being of course a major western funded propaganda machine. reminds me of a quote from a staunch britisher "if we dont win the democratic election it is not democratic". "we" as in the local party bought, propagandarised, and paid for by the west.

  2. put gaopao with prik nam plaa

    ham&cheeze toasted

have you ever had a phad kra pow pizza? just delicious!

    Just sent

where? if its not at seven it doesnt exist at present.

my seven has only mini sausage/cheese pizza but they havent the had daily update yet so will look again later.

  3. just by comparison i pay 200-300 baht a day for fully prepared food, fruits, snacks and non-alcohol drinks for me alone.

What?! That's eating out at the food booths for all 3 meals and fruit, snacks and drinks?! That's actually pretty darn good.

sitdown at non-tourist places both on and off street and 40 baht is about where you will pay for most one plate dishes. more or less depends on what you order and how much food you want on your plate. i usually ask for 5-10 baht more than advertised to cover "leakage" then i know i will get enough to eat first time. yes you can afford to eat nice things here without second thought, but one still has a tendency to play the save a satang game to keep in line with the culture. it just doesnt pay to flash too much cash around or pay too much. pay what you are asked or walk away and find somewhere else is what i do. there is no shortage of choice. still buy a lot from fixed price convenience stores and the well stocked and big variety supermarkets Tops, Tesco just to name a couple. your money goes a long way here.

  4. dont stress the alphabet many of the characters are infrequently used. learn how to count and you have already 30-40% of what everyday thai conversation consist of. learn "hello" and "where you go" and your now at 60%. add "how mudt" and you are at 75%. and just about fluent,

aside, learning to read is a real plus as many signs are in thai but many ppl find reading daunting. depends on your capacities

  5. search for thai language torrents there is more than you will ever need or get around to listening to, but it really isnt necessary probably more of a hindrance . you are not going to be understood for a very long time. understanding will take even longer. but you will still like being here until the border runs get to you. put it this way, it is only the thai people who can understand english who will understand what you are trying to say in thai, so whats the point?

  6. Nothing unusual in Thailand.

    Holes covered with flimsy materials.

    No warning lights.

On the roads you drive and suddenly you find a barrel in front of you as the road has been dag.

Construction sites without any safety measures....so easy to get a brick on the head.

I can write for hours about the lack of safety measures.

But you have heard all that before........and I want to go to sleep.

you have to learn how to tap into the great Buddhist ethereal plane then you will not need these material signposts.

  7. Talk about a bunch of poverty-stricken falangs. Sure, all prices have gone up--just like everywhere. It's still a better deal here than you get back home--at least it is for me. If you can't afford to pay the alcohol prices here, go somewhere else, drink cheaper booze, or stop drinking. You are still living cheaper here than you can at home--are you not?

last i was partying if farangistan there is no way i'd go anywhere near 5000 baht b4 midnight. even accounting for inflation in the interim cant see it.

5000thb is only a hundred quid ,you could drink it as quickly in a nice place here as back in europe

in dublin a double whiskycoke is like 12-14 euros in a mid level city centre club

I like to drink good beer from belgium or maybe germany so it costs me triple to drink it in thialand

(152 thb per 330ml even in a supermarket but i appreciate it is imported from europe to sydney and sydney to bkk

but il pay it anyway )

the option is there to drink chang or sangsom if i just drink to get drunk quickly and dont care what it tastes

    like lol

of course theyre ripping off all us drinkers of fine beverages ,but who wouldnt ? biggrin.png

i am even more pleased with my complete ignorance of current trends on this subject than i was before thank youbiggrin.pngthumbsup.gif

  9. chantaburi also gets a few foreigner for the gems so the locals can get by. you really only need to be able to say "how mutt?" and be able to understand 1 to ten and 20 and thirty in the local lingo. also how to point and smile. this will take you everywhere on the planet. shop at 7 and you dont need to know zip all.

i havent mastered how mutt so i speak the english for this. only if there is no understanding after three repeats do i attempt "tao rai krup"
