  2. It is the most thai place on the islands that Farnags choose to live and feel good in. No where else on the island (Patong/Karon/kata/Kathu) is the local poplutlation Born in the area

    Cobblers!

Rawai has many people born there. same goes for Nai Harn, Chalong, Cherng Talay and all points inbetween.

Yeah, Kamala used to be a great place to live. Now, it's a nonstop mess of traffic, dump trucks, labor camps, construction noise and accompanying dirt. If you live anywhere near the main road the gaggle of beer bars with BGs belting out karaoke till late is annoying. And, prices are ridiculous for anyone wanting to rent a place, I'd say there among the highest on the island now due to the demand. Very small bungalows on dirt lanes, just off the noisy main road are going for 20,000 Baht/mo.

Even on the much touted Millionaire Mile above the sea, the road is pitted from the nonstop huge trucks, there is nonstop construction and noise. Of course, the growth is tremendous, and expensive places are selling. But in terms of actually living in Kamala now, it's not very enjoyable. Maybe in five years it will be better, but IMO, it has become a bad place to live.

Even in the back village, it's so condensed that it's hard to get privacy and takes awhile to get out of the back village. Nai Harn has always been IMO the quiestest place to live, but too far from everything.

There are some hilltop seaview very choice, very quiet places, but they do cost money to buy or rent.

Kamala for me is by far the best part of Phuket. Of course no matter where you are on Phuket you will always be a fair way from some other part, its a big island.

Yes Kamala is a pain when you want to go to the usual places around Phuket Town such as Central Festival/Tesco Lotus, on the other hand Kamala is within easy reach of Patong. Rawai or Chalong for example is a good 40-45 mins to Patong through roads of hel_l (depending on car or motorbike), where Kamala you have a straight run of about 15 mins on a less congested beach road.

As for proximity to the other West Coast beaches you have Surin and Bangtao just north. The airport is also only 30 mins away depending on the time of day. Its quite simple, if you like being close to Phuket Town stay in Chalong, if you like being close to Patong (but not in Patong) then Kamala is the place.

As for noise I must be one of the lucky ones as I dont here a thing. Indeed the main road is a dust filled 4 lane highway for speeding trucks but I dont know anyone who lives directly on the road. 9 months of the year you dont here anything from the bars.

The housing is more expensive in Kamala than the likes of Chalong or Phuket Town but still cheaper than Patong. Which is why all the Patong expats move there.

I presonally think there is not enough development in Kamala, ive been searching for ages to buy property there but cant find anywhere, all the new developments seem to be in Chalong ! :o

  5. HSBC will definitely send credit cards from the UK to their branch in BKK. Takes around 7 days. You need to pick it up in person with your passport.

I will 2nd to that (and correct myself at the same time). HSBC will send credit cards to their branch in BKK, I did the same with my HSBC account in Malaysia. All you are required to do is sign with one of the HSBC staff as a witness. They will NOT however send to a residential address.

Nice inteligent reply Bagwan, no doubt you will be copy & pasting that one for many years to come ! :o

  6. Well what can I say, I was going to congratulate the OP with the Thaivisa Wooden Spoon award for 2007, but it appears someone got there before me !

As for banks not sending cards to Thailand this is rubbish, this comment is as bad the OP's comment. "Bank refuses to send to Thailand so Thailand is bad", rubbish ! Try asking your UK bank to send to ANYWHERE other than the address that matches your bank account, they wont do it.

For me its always you people who want the best of both worlds who are doing the complaining. You want the simplicity of the banking facility in there own country, but wish to live your lives and spend your money in another, and when it doesnt work out to your liking you complain ! If you wish to be in 2 places at once you have to be prepared to put up with the consequences and pitfalls of doing so !

Do some research, you will see there are companies that can provide a reliable and secure postal solution for this part of the world, even in Thailand ! One is mysecurepost.com Its ran buy a Thai company. I have never had a problem since I have been using them, not that I had a problem with the Thai postal service before.

With mysecurepost you can actually have your own international address for mail forwarding, both a PO box address and a physical address for important items. Good if you find yourself moving around a lot and never seem to be able to pin down a more permanent address.

On the other hand I would not recommend it to the OP, its not for people want to put there post at risk just to save a couple of hundred baht !

  7. Anyone had any experience in this area ?

I know all banks are different when it comes to deciding if a farang can open a savings account. Ranging from "difficult" by needing a visa/work permit, to "simple" by merely being in possession of a pulse !

But would they allow you to open an account with a PO box as an address ?

You may want to ask these people.

    www.mysecurepost.com

I have just opened an account with them. Run by a Thai company. Look after everything on your behalf and give you your own PO box address in Thailand. They will handle your mail for you and can forward to anywhere in the world at Thai postal/EMS rates.

All done online and you even get a password protected account, which has to be worth the sign up fee alone !

Not sure about the bank side of things.

  8. Hi all,

I read on another thread that Thailand offers PO Box for mailing address - I think it was to do with opening up a bank account?!?! We have a PO box here in Australia and this suits us very well and would like to do the same in Thailand. We will be between BKK and central Thailand so a PO Box might be the most secure option for us.

Information about the process of how to open an account and if these are available upcountry or do we need to have the account in BKK?

Thank you if you can help.

    Regards

    Makyai

  10. google adwords are run on affiliate websites through adsense program and it's the owners of those websites who would bother to do this trick.

write to adwords complaining about this abuse and you might get your money back.

btw concentrate rather on website optimisation and promotion to be at the top of the organic results and have a steady traffic for free

I think he means he's been overcharged for something that shouldn't even be there.

Adsense usually is a matter between Google and the website leasing space for the adsense ads. This is the first time I've heard of anger from an adwords guy, usually its google yelling because of the happy (fraudulent) clickers on the websites.

Thanks jimsknight, thats exactly how it is. Plain and simple, I haven been invoiced for something that I have no knowledge of.

Thanks George, will have a look at your link.

Have already been to Google to complain but they deny there is something wrong, even though I can prove there is.

As for affiliate websites I only ever used search "word" campaigns, I did not advertise on websites. Again, its not an abuse of clicks im reporting, its Google saying that I have had more clicks than my website stats are telling me. Its Google themselves that have de-frauded me.

  12. Does anyone out there know how to report a fraud for a Google pay per click ? Now this is Google themselves who have de-frauded me, not click happy surfers !

Before anyone says anything this is not a one man crusade to bring down the Google empire, as much I would love to I simply do not have the time to do such a thing.

What I would like to know if there any legitimate organizations which I can put my case to, or if there are any people out there who have had the same problem as me and would like to share there findings.

Also anyone out there who has a Google adwords account be very careful, make sure you have a reliable web stat program to match your adwords account, and I dont mean one of the cheapo freebies you get thrown in when you buy a website.

Over 3 months they have over-charged me a total of USD$2,200 (approx 80,000 baht), to which I have solid proof.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  13. I am just wonderin if there are any call center that operates here in Thailand? How about customer service support / outbound (telemarketing) company? I have a great interest in working in any of these fields so maybe you guys can help me if you know one.

Pinay/Batty, I can supply western speaking call centre facility in Thailand.

Im also looking for call centre execs to work in Phuket.

  14. Established company in Phuket looking for friendly outgoing telesales staff, no cold calling ! Basic salary and commission on offer to the right candidates.

Require all languages ! English, Scandinavian, Chinese, and German. Thais or westerners welcome to apply. Work permits supplied. Previous sales experience will be an advantage.

Please PM for e mail address and more details.

  15. Hi, as many of you, we have problems to find a cc solution for our webshop.

I have followed this thread with big attention but can’t find out with is the best solution for us. One thing is for sure, we can’t afford 5,5% as 2checkout.com charges.

We are now trying to get a CC machine so we can process the payments manually. But we find it hard to get. The banks say they will only provide CC-machines for real shops and tourist related companies. Our company is more than 2 years old and we have a nice and decent office in a business building but we are not a shop so therefore not qualified according to them. Any suggestions??

Does any e-payment solution provided by Thai banks really works for large payments from overseas?? We do not have many payments but few large ones in the range of 30 000-250 000b per purchase.

We really need some advise here.

    Thanks // Peter

    Reading this with great interest.

I am looking to bring in approx 10 million USD per year into the country which requires an online Gateway direct to a Thai business account, all tourist money ! Problem is the banks are not interested because my company at the present time does not generate enough revenue to warrant such a facility.

When I told them they only have to give me the facility and it would all change they simply refused to see the logic, "Im sorry but your company not big enough" :o

Any merchants out there fancy helping me with the 1st $10,000,000 ? (Im serious)

  16. I think that Work Permits may not be needed for certain work like modelling and acting if you are farang as these are jobs that Thais cannot do. I cannot remember where I heard this but I believe it to be true with regard to modelling although not sure about acting.

er. no, you CAN get a work permit short term for work like modelling and acting because as a foreigner you may be able to do a job that Thais cannot do (due to look, accent, etc).

    Definitely the case with modelling.

    Definitely the case with acting.

Normally agency or producer will take care of it; but reality is most talent works without a work permit.

So....no recourse when you get rounded up and deported/fined/cheated out of money. But odds of that are lower than Korea, Hong Kong etc. But it does happen.

As for acting in soap operas; judging from the drivel on UBC as well particularly American soap operas and some of the sit coms, I would argue that most TV worldwide doesn't require any skill in acting to get on TV. Include American Idol, big brother and all the other reality TV shows, and you could say, most TV these days requires nil talent. Thailand being no exception.

Expand to include anything featuring Paris Hilton and you could say 'complete lack of talent with proven track record of sexual encounters with past boyfriends preferred'.

Of course, this doesn't include such classics as Family guy.

Sure you can but when you are being paid only 1,500 baht is it worth the hassle and expense in getting a work permit ?

  17. I find sales here to be very difficult, especially amongst the foreigners here who were our initial target market. Many foreigners in Thailand think that nothing should cost more than 500THB, which can be quite frustrating to say the least!

Thais are easier to sell to, especially the younger, urban, educated elite, though arranging payment can be more difficult.

Exactly as EVO says, selling to Thais is much easier than selling to foreigners. Unfortunately "farang" in Thailand (excluding tourists) are generally broke, or will live way beyond there earnings leaving them with less disposable income.

I have 2 sales companies in Thailand selling 2 different products, one is mostly sold to Thais and one sells mostly to foreigners. The Thai one does much better out of the 2 !

My advice is be careful of people advising you to think of or sell "something new" or "different", this is not always the case with Thais and this is where they differ from foreigners, Thais will not buy anything they dont know much about, or never heard of !

Thais are also not the best sales people in the world, they will show you, but they dont know how to sell to you. I had one of my Thai reps in with me yesterday for a chat, his results had been very poor. I told him that he was showing his clients instead of selling them, his reply was " But boss, what different" ?

But I love being here and wouldnt change it :o

  18. How many kids does she have already? (The fewer the lower the dowry)

I'm sure you meant this the other way round. :o

    Sophon

I asked this question to a Thai friend of mine. For a BG 50,000 baht is sufficiant but only if the parents know she was/is a BG.

If her parents dont know she was/is then good, all you do is blackmail her into getting her parents to agree 50K, there will be even more loss of face if you dob her in !! :D

  19. Be aware that although there are disabled-friendly hotels, Patong itself is not.

Steep gutters, broken paving, steps to nearly all restaurants and I cannot think of easy access to the beach. A wheelchair bound friend wanted to come here for a holiday and I suggested Hawaii or North Queensland, much the same climate but all requires by law to provide wheelchair (etc) access.

And I don't know a toilet around Bangla or the beach that would be suitable.

No can do im afraid Bob, all the above sounds like the last place for a wheelchair, I totally agree. On the other hand can Hawaii or North Queensland supply an attractive 21 year old Thai lady to attend to his every "need" for $50 a day like Patong can ?

Yes, its a single guy who hasn't been laid for years, hes not worried about a few cracked pave stones !! :o

Thanks all for the input, am checking on Holiday Inn and Impiana. Sorry, Phuket Palace too far out and not high enough standard.

  20. Does anyone know what is sufficiant to pay an employee for a car allowance ? Its for a Thai sales rep supplying there own car.

    Thanks

Would depend on how much travelling you expect them to do, we vary between 1500 to 3000 per month for our staff. Alternatively you could ask them to log all km readings and pay actuals based upon receipts?

Will only be traveling local, max 60 - 80KM radius. Ammount of KM's is fairly minimal. So would it be wise to give both an allowance for the car and pay all fuel ?

  21. If you are not on an extension of that visa (currently on the original 90 day entry) there is no effect and you can stay until it ends.

If you are on an extension of stay then after you cancel work permit believe you must also advise immigration within 7 days and will then be given a week to leave.  Not sure if that 7+7 is exact so you may want to check previous posts on subject - but if you are not on an extension of stay you can stay until the 90 days are up.

Thanks Lopburi. Im not on an extension of stay so looks like im good for the remainder.

So what does the company do who im employed with ? Is it there responsibility to cancel the work permit ? Is there anything I need to do ?

    Cheers.
