  1. lol Nobody pays taxes. That soup cart down the street doesn't pay taxes so why should you or I? These people trying to do everything legal with these silly visas are just nitwits. There is no black and white in los. You do what you can get away with. In digitial nomad cases, they get away with dodging t@xes and working ill3gally.

Maybe you don't pay taxes, zierf1 but plenty of legitimate companies do.

Once you reach a certain income level, you want certainty in your financial affairs.

When you are just starting out, you might skirt some rules. Understandable.

    ===

But you want black and white?

How about this excerpt directly from the Thailand Department of Revenue website?

Taxpayers are classified into “resident” and “non-resident.” “Resident” means any person residing in Thailand for a period or periods aggregating more than 180 days in any tax (calendar) year. A resident of Thailand is liable to pay tax on income from sources in Thailand as well as on the portion of income from foreign sources that is brought into Thailand.

    The law reads pretty clear.

If you are making significant income, you could actually save money by setting up legitimately.

  2. Great job General! Keep up the good work!

This is what Thailand needs: a focus on economy.

    To the thai visa commenters...

There are many great reasons to start a company in Thailand.

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) already provides many different incentives for business owners:

    • better ratio than 4:1 staff
    • own 100% of a Thai company as a foreigner
    • 0% corporate income tax for up to 7 years
    • own land (up to 1 rai for director)
    • diplomatic entry at airport

Read through the BOI manual, or check out this website with explains simply with infographics: SiamStartup.com

Or message me, more than happy to tell my experiences running a high tech company in Thailand and how to apply for BOI licensing.

    Hey ThaiEskimo.

Thats a really interesting site and I had not seen it before.

Judging by your last line what is said on the website is actually implemented.

    Cheers.

    Thank you,

I have many friends, (foreigners and Thai's) who run successful businesses in Thailand.

Perhaps they are successful because they read the laws, talk to others who have done it, and don't believe what they read in an online forum!

We created SiamStartup.com to make the BOI process and Thailand laws understandable for the average person.

Financial and Legal issues in Thailand may be more challenging than other places, but they are not unsurmountable.

Here are some things you'll find on Siam startup

    • We have interviews with venture capitalists who have invested in Thailand, and entrepreneurs who have successfully grown a company from scratch.
    • We have infographics that clearly outline the process (including work permits, BOI applications, registering trademarks)
    • We have a job board where we post about opportunities (in development)

Hopefully we can play our part is fostering entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Thailand, within the Software High Tech industry.

    General expectations of you are:

    • You must love content. This position is most importantly about consuming, curating and creating content. You should have a proven track record in similar channels similar to our own (blogs, podcasts, eBooks, communities, and forums.)
    • You are observant and articulate. We’ll need you to be excellent at writing and communicating — you’ll be doing them both all day long–from writing articles, helping us to articulate policies, procedures, new content, and other fun stuff. You should always be finding ways to improve on our systems.
    • You understand entrepreneurial mindset and love a good spreadsheet. You don’t have to be a total systems nerd, but you should always be approaching the decisions you make with careful judgement and having weighed out the business reasons. Every move we make and every new program we launch includes a comparison of upsides and downsides, a P&L sheet, and the necessary SOP’s.
    • You must be excellent with computers. Most of our sites are built on wordpress which is mostly a CSS and HTML platform. You won’t be expected to hard-code anything substantial on the site, but you should know the difference between PHP and HTML, WordPress and Drupal, SEO and PPC, and so on. You must know your way around a WordPress site.
