In Hanoi, I used the VOA procedure twice in the past 3 months and never waited more than 20 minutes to get my stamp at the airport so I see it as a very convenient procedure, certainly better than having to queue at some embassy. The only drawback if you are short on the $ side is that you pay twice, once online to get the "Approval Letter" and a second time to get your visa stamp upon arrival...

As a (french) frequent traveller to VN I can attest that there is absolutely no problem if you follow the procedure (see website above).
By the way, depending on your nationality, if you are staying less than 15 days and hold a valid return ticket you need no visa at all, not even an immigration form.Just proceed to immigration when you arrive, they scan your passport and give you 15 days max, easy and free. You cannot come back to VN on the same exemption scheme less than 1 month after the last exit though, if you need to do so then you will need a visa.

Your situation regarding employment is totally irrelevant here both on the thai side and the french side.
As long as you meet the other requirements you may marry as you wish. You should check the embassy in Thailand website:

For a start it would be nice if PTT (and probably others) trained their staff about this. Several times I've had to prevent some to use their phone while filling my tank...

If u can put up with French comments and if u have a TrueVisions package that includes TV5Monde u can watch it live. Saturday 9pm.

Thank you very much Guys, that is the information I needed. Should be no problem in the middle of the dry season then except for adverse traffic and ...dust!
Best wishes to all.
Cheers

Planning this next month (Isuzu D-Max 2WD) and was wondering if anybody has recent experience with that road.

I am a long term resident in Thailand, currently visiting Cordoba in Spain with my Miss and was rather surprised to see that sites free for me as a EU citizen were charging 0.30 for others... Kind of a revenge taken for so many years of dual pricing in LOS, except that those 120baths also came out my own pocket!

You probably did buy wrong, difficult to tell on which account though. Prescription or execution of the prescription?... I've been wearing progressive lenses for 25 years, into my fifth or sixth pair now I guess and couldn't live without them!
However ophthalmology is a real medical science hardly mastered by a sales girl after a few hours crash training course (in Thailand, the boss of these chains/franchises may have real qualifications but he's out playing golf while the shop is handled by 9000B/month sales girls...
So get a proper prescription from a real ophthalmologist (who by the way may discover some other field related pathology)
Then try to get a serious optician and that's the hard part. There is one I would recommend in BKK, small shop on SUKHUMVIT, just under NANA BTS station (odd sois side) in his sixties, been there for 30 years, knows his stuff!
Price probably matters less however, for 30k you should get among the best lenses available such as Hoya or Essilor but no, you do not get the same lens for 3k and 30k except if cheated.
Finally, yes it takes a bit of time to adapt, not much in my experience though, but if you still feel uncomfortable after a few days something is wrong.

I've been shopping around for 8 years including online with an ordinary BANGKOK BANK VISA card, each transaction being debited on the spot from my savings account. Never encountered any problem.

I've had all sorts. Toyota is top but price is coming with it...
Been driving Isuzu D-Max Z Prestige for 2 years, just passed 70K maintenance with flying colors. Excellent handling, very low fuel consumption, 10K regular maintenance never exceeded 2000B. Definitely the best below 1milB.
Ranger is sturdy but tough for my old bottom!
I confess not having tested latest models though.
Finally, if you're in the sticks, Isuzu and Toyota have the best service network.

For many years I have been routinely using a Bangkok Bank debit card for purchases over the internet as well as physical purchases. No problen whatsoever.

Thinking of parking there for 1 month.I heard conflicting reports on this. Some say cars get damaged, mirrors stolen etc...while some say it is perfectly safe.
First hand and recent experience anybody?
Thanks -
You obviously are notre familiar with auction procedure. It is common practise for the seller to set a "reserve price" which if not met voids all biddings, therefore the sale...

"battmot" = dead battery... (in thai, "mot" means empty, no more of whatever) proper transliteration towards english would probably require to write "mawt". Thais use this expression often in relation to their phone's battery when it goes dead.

I got my NEXUS 7 2013 32GB in Japan 2 weeks ago for just under10,000THB with immediate update to Kitekat. Best IT buy I'have had for years! Screen is as clear as iPad (which is supposed to be the reference), you get Android sleek & clean without the usual bloated "extra couche" from SAMSUNG (which I was using before) etc and with Android file transfer installed on my iMac I can move files smoothly between tablet and desktop and vice versa.
Great device indeed...not sure what the price is here nor if specs are 100% identical though.

I know my comment is not very constructive but can't help to post it. Sorry but education is not my area of expertise...
I guess many of us here, like myself have seen this sales girl check the change with her calculator while cashing say a 100THB bill against a 64THB sale!...Makes me feel so sorry for these indeed extremely nice individuals. The task to move away from such an educational disaster is herculean!
Incidentally, what happens if calculator "battmot"?...

I know quite a, but we have a very tall and dark gray in color collective satellite and pay 3000 baht a year, if it can help you.I repeat, all channels are working well since Saturday 24
I see...and I guess you then get TV5 straight from the satellite and not through a provider such as TRUE (after all TV5 is "free to air" which means that with the proper equipment you can get it free of charge).
As far as I am concerned I have to wait until TRUE plugs it back in!...

At Hua Hin, TV cutoff TV5, Friday May 23 to 16 hours until Saturday, May 24 to 16 hours. Everything is back to normal.
Do you get your TV5 through TRUE VISIONS ? If yes it must be by cable coz by SAT it is still blocked as indicated above.

As I write TRUE is still blocking TV5MONDE (channel 124 SAT). All other channels have been made available again after a couple of days of interruption.

I called today TRUE MOVE, I was told, they do not know when they re allowed to send again!
The crazy thing is that when my local cable service in Udon Thani resumed the BBC, Australia TV, Channel News Asia etc. were all immediately available.
I wonder if cable networks elsewhere were the same or still blocked ?
TRUE brought back everything except BBC and CNN.
TV5MONDE (channel 124 TRUE VISIONS SAT) is still blocked as I write. Will be "made available soon" they say...

Hi Puyai
I believe we are not allowed to exchange email adresses nor tel numbers here so we should probably arrange to meet in person. We could meet for coffee, lunch, whatever. Any day would suit us. May be we could meet at the entrance of the Hospital, a place that can't be missed...or anywhere else easy to find if you have a better idea. If you think it appropriate we could ask this Uthai french citizen to join as well, up to you.
