  1. Like others have said, your speed problems are due to the crap infrastructue here, a VPN will not help. However, if you wish to view content (eg BBC iPlayer etc) that is restricted to its home country, then a VPN is ideal. If you are using Windows there is no need to change anything on your PC or Router, just install the VPN software and select which country you wish to be connected via and off you go. I use Private Internet Access, a US company (I think) and am very happy with them. Most Firms will give you the option of paying just for a month so that you can make sure that you are happy before commiting to a yearly and thus much cheaper package.

I did initilly try some of the free options arcatound but they were no good for the long term.

    Hi

I also use the same VPN....... and connected with CAT for up to 15mps...... but when i play bbc iplayer it is constantly pausing...... any suggestions?

  2. Hi

i have been looking into different options... and like many others I am a little confused by it all.

    Here are my thoughts....

    1) without a high speed quality internet connection, don't even think about it.

    2) The retailers of these boxes show tantalizing images off all the channels you can get free using their boxes.... but underline in several places that they are NOT providers of TV content.

    3) In other words... it would be illegal for them to do so.... and therefore.... illegal for us also.

    4) it would appear it is no more safe to use these boxes as it is to use Bitorrent to download movies to your computer....

    5) Therefore we are not within the law.... either Thai or UK or wherever...

    6) Owners of the Intellectual Property are constantly looking for ways to reduce piracy. Either by prosecution or moving the goal posts so that Bitorrent or These boxes become unusable.

    7) Therefore we could pay out say 7000 baht for a box that will not work in say 6 months time.... or worse... examples may be made by prosecuting a few thousand of us to warn the others...

    comments anyone?

  4. Hi guys

I am posting this for a mate who writes:

" Can anyone please clarify for me.... I have a one year OA Visa ( for over 50s) issued at the Thai Embassy in London in September last year ., which is a one year Visa. As far as I am aware I do not need to report to Immigration within that year .Thanks"

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

  5. Hi Guys,

    thanks for your advice,

I have a pension in excess of 800,000 baht/year.... is that enough or do they only count the first 600,000 then request 200,000 in cash deposit as well?

should I speak with immigration here in Bangkok before my trip or go to the Embassy abroad first and get the single entry "O" visa before re-entering Thailand?

    Cheers,

    Keith

If you have 65k baht or more income (780k baht annual) you don't need any money in the bank. You prove the income by getting a income letter from your embassy.

If you can prove the income and have 15 or more days remaining on your current entry you can go to immigration and apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry

Then after 60 days apply for the one year extension of stay.

So, no need to go to an Embassy abroad at all?

As long as you 15 days remaining on your entry when you apply you don't need to leave. You will need to go to your embassy for the income letter. To save a trip back to the embassy you should get two letters. One for the visa application and one for the extension application.

If you want to make a trip out of the country after getting the 90 entry prior to getting the extension you would need to get a re-entry permit to keep the entry valid.

Thanks so much for your help and advice.

One last question... once I have the retirement visa how will that affect my Filippino GF? can she get a long term visa too? How about if we are married?

    Cheers,

    Keith

  8. Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been previously covered...

I am living in BKK on a tourist visa. I am UK national 50+, GF is Filipino less than 50.

We want to live here and will be travelling to Cambodia next week for 10 days. Siem Reap then PP.

    1) What is the best visa to apply for when there? (apart from retirement visa)

    2) Better to apply in Siem or PP? Address?

    3) What docs do I need to take with me? (I have a rental contract and BKK bank account)

    4) Do I need to make an appointment or just go there?

I understand i can qualify for a retirement visa if I put 800,000 baht into a bank here for 3 months.... Then I can take it out. Right?

But for each annual re-renewal, do I have to put it back in again?

How about if I buy a condo worth more than 800, 000.... does that count?

    Thanks guys
