  1. After obtaining my initial licences, I've renewed my temp dl 3 X, always late into the grace period. Only had to write a test (and road test motorcycle) for the initial licence.  I expect to only do the eye, reaction test etc as usual this time as well.

Ps. I have never watched a video!

  2. My 2 year temp license expired last year. I've always waited up to 12 months after my temp dl expired to renew (but tbh those were 1 year licences iirc.).  Hoping to get 5 year as I have retirement visa now.

    1. Is there no longer a grace period for temp dl?

    2. Can I go to any land transport office in bkk? I'm in Minburi.

The toilet is held down by cement glue my toilet be was very heavy one and even a job to lift. The hole in toilet just sits over the soil pipe.with about half inch clearance..then there is a thing like an large o ring made of like putty.that gets squashed between toilet and soil pipe .. make sure the two holes line up..

I already had the tank off so only lifted the bowl. I could not see how it was held down so just tried lifting it. It came up without any resistance at all, exposing the blob of "cement".  There was no putty or other sealant. How does the cement grab onto smooth tile? I'll see what tai watsadu has and if I can install a low profile flange on the tile . If not, I'll do it thai style as you suggest.

  4. Replacing toilet in the gf's new house. Only thing holding it down was gravity. There is no flange at all. Just an open pipe and Lots of what looks like grout to seal it. Is that normal here?

Also in both bathrooms, all fixtures, a ton of black sludge in all pipes , much of it hardened in the end of the pipe restricting flow. Not too familiar with thai plumbing but wondering if it's worth redoing all the pipes. Probably not good for the recently installed RO system.

I think you need to avoid any fridges that dispense chilled water or make ice. The ones I had in the US were quite robust but their equivalents across here weren't worth the extra dosh IMHO. Lines got blocked up, plastic fittings cracked or pumps just died and spare parts didn't exist.

You can get standalone coolers that can be plumbed in. Good option if it is going into a new build and can be plumbed in without drama. There's also a few on the market where the water bottle goes inside the bottom part and there's a small internal lift pump. I bought one a few years ago at Thai Watsado but it was less than a year old when the plastic impeller body on the pump motor developed cracks. I replaced it with a similar motor/pump from lazada but I was told it started dripping again last summer while I was away at work. I haven't gotten around to finding out what the issue is this time since Mrs NL went out and bought a new, cheap 'top loader'.

Thx for feedback. Your cooler experience doesn't exactly inspire confidence.  I may just opt for 1 of those 1 gallon insulated jugs, filled daily, in the meantime.  It doesn't help that some of the coolers are more expensive than the fridge we are about to buy.

  6. Looking to install R/O water filter in a house, plumbed to a cooler. I noticed coolers typically take the big blue 19L jugs. Alternatively, could be plumbed to fridge(yet to buy) with dispenser option, but noticed the fridges with that feature are bigger than the spot we have and most just have a plastic bucket in the door you fill.

  7. Looking to outfit 3 bedrooms in a house with a/c. Leaning towards inverter a/c as they seem to be all the rage. Trying to decide whether to go with 1 big compressor shared by all 3 rooms, or 1 per room. Actually, only need to do 2 br's for now and most of the time only 1 br occupied.

Recommendations for brands welcomed.  Bangkok area.

  8. That affidavit already in my bundle of paperwork.

Received email already from Canada embassy. As you said, they said they don't provide letters as the Thai government doesn't require.

As I was still at cw, went in again, armed w the email. Unfortunately got the same officer again. She escalated to another desk who told me same thing. They were not interested in email, just kept saying "need letter". I declined 7 day extension as apparently can't do any kind of visa after that. Left empty handed.

  9. I understand I need to do covid ext (for TR visa) at CW location. Gathered required docs and have photocopies in hand.  Read elsewhere car parking is nonexistent unless arriving super early. Is there a cutoff time after which they will not serve you? Coming from across town. Other useful tips appreciated. I know tmw & Saturday are holidays.
