If I were you, I'd go to Chang Wattana and ask for clarifications as to why I was charged

that much money and make sure you take the names of the people you talk to,,,

and how can I avoid such situation from happening again....

The act of bribing an officer is also illegal....

He doesn't have to say it was a bribe , just ask is it normal procedure under the new guidelines to pay 20,000 Baht for a 30 day landing visa , act like an idiot basically

You really think that they would believe that story? If he were the "exception" to the rule and the service was free from corruption - you might have a chance..... but the bigger likelihood would others in that same department (higher-ups that take a cut) would see you as a threat and use the full force of the law to silence you. A Thai officer would be more likely to be given the benefit of doubt if the testimony is just the word of someone.

Well I wouldn't sit back and take it . I probably wouldn't have given him the money either. The more people shit their pants and do nothing the longer they will continue to rip people off

Is it just me, or does this case show the so called "Thainess" at it's ugliest? Xenophobia, a blame it on the victims attitude, and complete incompetence of law enforcement agencies, all come together. To top this up, one must hear the now famous bikini speech of our leader, and the cynical and difficult to beat "let them wear tracking devices" idea of the tourist minister. The only way to bring Thailand to it's senses, would be a complete boycott by tourists planning to visit.

And what about the expats. I've said it before... if you want to effect change in Thailand then the expat community should walk. Just think of the impact of 10,000 or more hitting Phuket Airport or Had Yai - do you think the international press would ignore a mass exodus? When interviewed the expats can then say why and demand change. Seriously if the Thai Gov didn't change they would be losing billions each year and would be a massive blow to the economy... you talk about tourists boycotting but you and the other expats could achieve so much more. Time to get off the bar stool and put your words into actions.

I would say that many Thais would react in a Similar manner to The British when immigrants moan , If you don't like it <deleted> off

If you live here and pay taxes here, legally, then why should you not have the right to comment on the society you are part of?

I'm not saying you don't have the right to say what you like . What I'm saying is the Thai's are the same as The Brits and will have no time for immigrants moaning

I am struck dumb by the utter idiocy of this.

    The hub of unbelievable stupidity.

Hey! You up there in power.

How about catching and sentencing a few murderers and thieves? Now that would be a novel idea. alt=thumbsup.gif>

    Can we add

    Stab proof vest

    Hard hat with perpex Visor

    Taser

    Gauntlets

    Rigger Boots

    Flick hammer

    JIF bottle of Amonia

Great advert for the country , you need an escort from your own personal bodyguard for a trip down Family Mart to get 20 fags and a half bottle of Mekong

Perhaps you should clarify that remark for the sakes of our American cousins. By getting 20 fags you mean cigarettes. alt=biggrin.png>

We have just had the "push bike" debate on another thread. I wouldn't want there to be an unfortunate misunderstanding.cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif width=32 alt=cheesy.gif>

2 nations divided by a common language.

Thank you , let me Clarify , 20 Gays

  7. What amuses me is (Not that this is a funny event) every "Lead" or half lead they have had they have blurted it out to the world media. Now they would have us believe they have something up their sleeve. If you know you will catch the killerr then you must know who it is and I'd bet my <deleted> they don't, because if they did they'd be gobbing off to the media

    Dribble, dribble, dribble.

They always make it sound like an arrest is imminent. Why bother waiting for two or more witnesses? If you've acquired the necessary evidence, arrest them. Surely DNA evidence trumps the need for witnesses. If they know the person then surely they'd have also collected a sh#tload of other incriminating evidence, enough to build a watertight case.

I wonder what percentage the case is at today? I was 85% of the way to winning the lottery once. I made it to the lottery agent, bought the ticket and filled out my lucky numbers. Unfortunately the remaining 15% I needed never eventuated.

I'd say they will crank it up to about 98% solved and then stay at that level for 7 or 8 years
