sugar would definitely be the number one cause.  The vehicle for the delivery of that is the ease of consumption of it in all the processed foods and drinks thru convenience stores now.

Of course, lethargy or lack of exercise is number two.  You can fight thru bad diet if you are a physical labor machine (see Michael Phelps diet when he was competing).  12,000 calories and a huge amount of carbs while at it.

For breakfast, this is what he ate:

    • 3 fried egg sandwiches with tomatoes, fried onions, mayo, lettuce, and cheese
    • One five egg omelet
    • One bowl of grits
    • 3 slices of French toast dusted with powdered sugar
    • 3 chocolate chip pancakes
    • 2 cups of coffee

It seems that his intention was to start the day off really well. For lunch, he took it a little easier:

    • A pound of enriched pasta
    • Two large ham-and-cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread
    • 1,000 calories of energy drinks

For dinner, he had perhaps his lightest meal of the day:

    • Another pound of pasta
    • One 8-inch pizza
    • Several energy drinks
    Kels

Sugar and grains are pretty much the quickest way to add kilos/pounds, and yes, not moving much speeds up the weight gain...!
I left Thailand in 2016, after living there for 3.5 years,  I saw quite a lot of obese kids, and I saw what they ate (my wife's little shop was less then 100M from the school in her village)... sugar is definitely a huge (pun intended) problem in Thailand now...! ????

  2. I have spent 2 years in Thailand being the only farang in the small village.... it is nice mostly, but very lonely at times, even though I am married to a wonderful Thai woman, I am still the odd one out and am often left out of many things because (mostly) I don't drink or gamble or screw around, so I have absolutely nothing in common with Thai men and Thai women don't seem to want a man hanging around while they natter on...!

My wife does attend to me regularly, but occasionally her family take precedence over me... and that's fine... I just have very few people who I can sit and have a good old D&M conversation with...!

OP, I love being the only farang in the village.

Feel like a novelty here, wais all over, smiles from everybody.

My only problem is, can't approach the sexy girls, as everybody knows the farang and will immediately go to my wife.

But I'm working on that.......there are other villages around.........

make a choice man.... if you love your wife, then stop looking elsewhere... if you don't love her, then set her free so that a good man can love her... stop being greedy...!!! :-(

  4. I am a 54yo Australian man who has observed the gradual rise in rudeness in Australian people (in general), I have lived in Thailand now for 17 months (I moved here 6 weeks after a 1 month holiday) on the fourth day of my one month holiday to Thailand, I decided that Thailand was the place for me to live.... the people are so friendly and so giving (even if they have very little to give). I married a wonderful 35yo Thai woman who has been a God Send to me...!
At this stage of my life, I plan to call Thailand my home for a very long time...!

  5. We probably need a bit more information.

Do you have a Thai Bank Account?

What sort of sums are we considering?

The reason being is that I have a great company that does exchanges, 1 baht spread, but charges a $25 fee, regardless of $1 or $1,000.

The Australian banks do, but their exchange rate is close to highway robbery.

Hi David, I would like so info from you please.

I am and Aussie who has been living in Thailand with my wife now for 16 months.

I have someone who wants to send me money ($5000) and would like to receive most of it and not give a lot to the foriegn exchanger...!

You say that the people that you use have a 1 baht spread, that sounds a lot better than all of the others I have seen...!

Could you please give me some info?

I have no idea if you can PM on this site (Just joined) or if I need to add my email address for answers... please advise.

    Cheers,

    Mike,
