1. Koh Samui - an island populated mostly by idiots... 'owned' by Bangkok Airways:

    - idiot Thais (let's see who can have the loudest, 2-stroke motorcycle on the island by taking the baffles out of the muffler) and drive at 120 kmph the wrong way down a one-way street after dark with no lights on. Cement truck drivers. 150 dB Thai boxing advertising trucks. The list is endless... "Hallllo massage?"

    - idiot ex-pat girlie bar owners married to ex-girlies (who are 'different'... LOL), who are too drunk to walk... so they drive.

    - idiot European wannabe bikers... who think renting a Harley makes them tough.

    - idiot 20-something newlywed tourist couples on scooters who WILL become one with the pavement.

    - idiot, Caucasians with dreadlocks who have so many drugs they think they are Black and have been oppressed..

    - idiots who get on buses driven by a Thai.

    It's kinda like... Hell.

    Where do you live, genius?

  2. How does one tie string around their hands behind their back?

You tie your hands round your front and then step through them - after 12 hours of drinking it's simple.

Lol, really. I would love to see someone tie their hands together WITHOUT any drinks. Everyone thinks it's easy so someone please do a reenactment and make a video to show how simple it is and post it on here. If you can do it, please have a few beer and try it again. If you can do it still, have a few more beer and try it again.

Then we can compare the knots to the one around this guy's hands. Keep in mind he was drinking for 12 hours.

    Until then I call bullshit

And then having done all that, I would then be accused by the RTP of being the murderer who doesn't exist. No thanks!

But if you can guarantee immunity and will buy all the beers, I will show you how it is done.

  3. Another nail in the Thai tourism coffin!

You might think so but I doubt this and all the other completely avoidable road traffic injuries and fatalities will make the slightest dent in the tourist numbers.

Regarding the fleeing driver, and given his age and the way he was driving, I would wager there is over a 50% chance he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Given that so many drivers speed and drive dangerously here, would you care to reconsider your odds? What odds would you give that he is related to an "influential family on the island"?

Maybe he ran because he was afraid of being mistaken for Burmese.

Isn't it such great fun to judge without knowing the facts!

  4. Albevy,

Interestingly, in the last couple of days this has become an issue raised on the Jeremy Vine show.

The topic of controversy was that, an any EU passport holder, from any country in the EU can travel into the UK, with a spouse, even if the spouse is not from an EU country and they can then immediately start claiming benefits. This includes child support benefits which might even be from a previous marriage from which the children are living outside the EU. This cannot be done by a UK national. Last year they prosecuted 4,000 couples for these arranged marriages to use this loop-hole and they believe that this is now a major industry that they are just seeing the tip of the iceberg on.

Sorry I can't offer you any advice or even good news, Mate.

  5. Sustained for whom?

If you don't tackle the other more important burning issues on these islands, such as the general corruption, the inept police, the taxi driving thieves, the drug dealing bar owners, gang violence with impunity and the ability to buy your way out of any degree of trouble with the law. Who will you be achieving this Green Standard for?

"If you build it,they will come" was just a line in a movie. As it is now, soon the only thing you will see on these islands will be the ghosts of tourists.

Oh yes. By the way. Generally, it is not the hotels or resorts that are the problem. Take a look at some of the smaller, local traders, Mr Mayor.

  6. We once stayed in a small row of apartments near the entrance to the Meridian in Phuket. Settled in for the night. Put on the cable TV and after a few minutes it started to change channel automatically. I walked up to the reception at the end of the row and found the owner, sitting there, bare chested in his arm chair, flicking through the channels to decide what we (he) was going to watch tonight!

  7. There is a lot more to this "horrific, unprovoked attack" than any of us "readers" will ever know. What I am certain of is that, at this time, it is in the interests of the local media, primarily the western oriented, "local rags" to rewrite, plagiarize and exaggerate this story to increase their own readership. There is certainly not any real humanitarian feeling here in support of someone who, quite frankly, has the means and wherewithal to able arrange travel back to his native country. I doubt he really needs the charity appeal and I wonder who is benefiting from it the most!

Its been said before, there must have been some provocation involved. That aside, I don't claim to be a surgeon, but I have seen quite a few traumatic injuries and injuries from beatings and this photo, repeatedly being shown, certainly doesn't suggest, "18 months of further costly reconstructive surgeries".

Wouldn't it be nice, once in a while, for some truthful, accurate, unbiased reporting here?

  8. Inept police and prosecution service aside. The circumstances of this attack seem strangely suspicious to me. This guy was out with a group of friends. How often do bullies attack when they are out-numbered?

It seems to me that there is more to this than we know and I would guess that it involves some sort of provocation or perceived justification for the assault, whether valid or not.

I am not condoning it or taking sides in anyway but there is definitely more to this initial assault than meets the eye, or has been disclosed on the TVF gossip and rumour-mill.

From personal experience I would say that he had little chance of a modelling career anyway.

  9. Any speculation here as to whether the two men arrested were itinerant, Burmese workers, who have made full confessions? I should imagine that, by now, this is an air-tight case!

Seriously though, the report on BBC World this morning stated that those being held captive where released by a local Mayor leading his own security team to a reported camp site in his region.

The Mayor stated that he and his group took this action themselves because the local police could not be trusted and were believed to be involved in the trafficking. He also stated that he has further information that there are other camps/prisons in the jungle in the area.

The journalist reported a comment that there were previous cases of victims, being held as illegal immigrant in prison, before being released back into the hands of their captors!

  10. I think I may be on to something here, and my "DotCom"  millions are just around the corner.

Insert a single word into the Thai Visa search engine - I chose the word, "Russian" - then, decide on a second word and have a bet with yourself (or others) how many results will appear, before pressing Enter. As a second word, I chose' "Drunk".

With the advent of Smartphones, I think this might become the next big pub drinking game. (Other search criteria can be entered but the results aren't quite so good).

  11. Just checked on here to see what the weather is doing around Bang Ban Makam today and found there have been no postings since 15th March. I decided to take a break from the Interweb to go get my smalls in. Imagine my frustration to find that they are wet because it has been raining!

OP. If you are going to start a forum posting like this, at least be responsible enough to keep it updated, please! I am now having to sit around in wet Y-fronts, for Goodness Sake!

  12. I have seen a dead baby lying on the road in samui , the mother had carried it while driving a bike , no helmet so the baby's head is like an orange .. Extremely distressing to view .. There is nothing I haven't seen on the roads on samui , legs missing , squashed skulls , young / old , Thai / foreigners .. Most motor bikes , but a few car crashes while the driver has been drunk .. Untill samui upgrades it's road safety , nothing will ever Chand

    Sent from my iPhone 6

    using ThaiVisa app

You must admit (assuming you have lived here for a while) that the roads have, in fact, improved dramatically over recent years. What hasn't improved is the driving.

You are quite right, Boater, the road safety needs to improve and that is not just infrastructure; it includes driver training, vehicle maintenance, licencing, policing, law enforcement........ yeah, OK! We can all see that the problems are not just the road surfaces......

  13. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

What this report doesn't point out is that the Thai Military knew this ten days ago. The report I read quotes Air Vice Marshal Montol Suchookorn as saying "but did not share the data earlier because officials "did not pay any attention to it" and were not specifically asked for it."

Just let so many boats and aircraft search in the wrong places for ten days.

Malaysia knew from their radar that MH 370 had altered course and told no one, the flight never flew into Thai air space , it turned back towards K.L then banked and flew over Butterworth , an air-force base , as this is Malaysia air space over a airbase ,why the worry , Malaysia knew and never told anybody.

    ^^^^

This... If the plane was over Malaysian airspace, Malaysia should have a better radar trace than Thailand, yes?

Find plenty of other reasons to bash the Thai governmental processes, procedures, people, etc. - this might not be one of them. Criticize for a valid reason.

Being able to divert search assets to the CORRECT SIDE OF THE COUNTRY, TEN DAYS AGO might be a valid reason for criticism, don't you think?

  14. I've had this tried on me, be it bad factory packing or repacking by the store but i always take everything out of the box before i buy, sometimes much to the annoyance of the staff. If it's something electrical i wanted it tested in front of me and i would rather spend another ten minutes in the store making sure all is well before taking it home.

How was this "tried" on you? Did they force you to select it?

If after your thorough inspection you decide not to buy a product after all, it then goes back on the shelf for other wary customers to refuse because it has been opened until it becomes out of date; style; whatever. Is that fair to the retailer? I guess that doesn't matter because, presumably, the retailer is Thai and it would be their own fault for trying it on with you, Trainman!
