  1. Germany - nowhere else in the world you have a greater choice of beer....

Belgium has a much wider variety clap2.gif

In Belgium, about 140 breweries make some 1,000 different types of beer, including specialties

In Germany 1,379 commercial breweries make between 5,000 and 6,000 different beers - with no specialties in the Belgian sense as the addition of some ingredients used in Belgium would not be allowed in Germany (chemicals, preservatives, flavouring, fruit juice etc.)

These are simple facts anybody can google...

  2. Chacun à son goût and it is as silly to argue about taste as it is to try and impose one's taste on others... In this way beer may well be compared to religion... and I am an atheist!

Lots of great brews available around the world but even the ones considered inferiour by many still find their afocinados. Czech beer is top notch and Czechs are world champions in drinking beer, but apart from the two most famous Czech brands it is little known outside the country. German beer is good and has somewhat more variety, along with a strict self imposed quality rule. Again, most German beers are not available outside Germany, and in Thailand you may find not more than maybe a dozen different German beers - not necessarily all the best available and by the time they find the consumer in Thailand not any more the freshest either. Wherever I travel I like to drink the local brew, and so far I have always found something to please my tastebuds - usually better than expensive imported "not so fresh" stuff. I only ever got sick twice from inferior quality "local" beer, once in Holland and once in the US - when I had beer from 2 of the world's largest and most famous breweries....

  3. Several great small concerts at the good old Marquee Club in Wardour Street, London, 1973/74: Thin Lizzy, East of Eden, Marmalade and several others - unique great club atmosphere!

Have been missing the Marquee ever since it has gone... But Thailand makes up for this loss in other ways...

    Cheers!

  4. Very much a matter of taste, personal preference - and belief. Heineken drinkers truly believe they are drinking premium stuff, and you cannot change this just by telling them that in fact their beer is some of the lousiest brews on the planet. Undoubtedly it has probably the best marketing and highest marketing budget of all beers, and it pays. After all you want to sell what your guests ask for, so let them decide what they like and start up with all 5 brands or even more, reduce them after a few weeks if you find one or two do not sell enough to keep them in your range. It should be well worth the effort. If you expect to sell a lot of beer a draft would not hurt, it is simply better (both Chang and Singha).

In any case: make sure the beer is always served with a sweet smile - and let me know once your place is open!

    Cheers!

  5. Does anybody know about a Japanese bar or club in Soi 55 (Thonglor) where they have gogo dancing? When I asked at several Japanese bars in the area nobody seemed to know it, only Karaoke bars. But it must exist, with gogo dancing from 8 pm onwards every night. Obviously some of the bars and clubs only have signposts in Japanese, to make them difficult to identify for non Japanese.

I appreciate any hint as a very dear person (no not a girlfriend, far dearer than that) went missing after having worked there for only 2 days!
