Poverty porn, don't get the rich westerners fascination with slum street food. Mostly cooked in old palm oil among roaches, rats and filth, lovely ????

Totally agree. I lived in Thailand for years and ate street food maybe 3 or 4 times. Loaded with salt, sugar, chemicals, pollution and flies. Every time, it left me feeling like I got high blood pressure and heart palpitations. Totally over-rated. Give me an air-conditioned restaurant any day.

  2. 90% of what 7-Elevens (correct spelling) sell in Thailand is complete artificial, rubbish, nutrition-free junk food. You'd be better off eating a piece of cardboard. As to the 10% of stuff they sell that isn't nutritional rubbish, almost nobody seems to buy that stuff. Avoid 7-Elevens like the plague! (A pity because the same stores in Japan actually carry a lot of really high-quality foods.) If you want to know why Thais are nowadays fat and Japanese are not, look no further than the sorry excuses for "foods" that are sold in Thai 7-Elevens.

  3. I guess if you live out in Nonthaburi (yawn), going to the store to buy beer must be the highlight of your week. I suppose that's why it merits a long and breathless post about it. Either that or you could, without realizing it, be an alcoholic.

Anything on lower Sukhumvit relates to tourism.  They have had identical issues on KSR, too, but KSR has always sucked.

Didn't you hear the news? The whole of Khao San Road is going to be demolished in the summer to make way for an exclusive ultra-luxury high fashion megamall. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2020/04/01/khaosan-road-to-become-iconkhaosan-luxury-mall-the-icon-of-prosperity-and-quality-tourism/

  5. They should extend the ban forever. Introduce permanent alcohol prohibition. Thailand is a Buddhist country and Buddhists aren't supposed to drink alcohol. If alcoholic westerners can't do without their drug fix, they can move to Cambodia or Vietnam instead. The quality of western tourists in Thailand will then increase massively.

  6. Look at you bunch of sad sacks unable to survive for a mere 20 days without your regular alcohol poison fix. Get a grip! Unless it escaped your attention, Thailand is a Buddhist country. They should ban alcohol 365 days a year! Alcohol takes you away from the meditative states in which you can achieve nirvana.

  7. The government of Thailand is about as competent, effective and well organized as a government of an average African country, so I'd be very concerned about its ability to control this virus outbreak. I'm not in Thailand right now, but if I had been, I'd have left by mid-January at the latest. I imagine the virus is rampant all over Thailand by now.

  8. Let's get something "straight" here... YOU (your own best mate) were in a ladyboy bar and YOU don't want to admit that you got taken for a fool, so YOU changed the story to the third person ("my mate"). You'll feel a lot better if you just admit your attraction to dolled-up males and get on with enjoying your stay in BKK.
