  1. A really positive story and yet still the majority of comments are cynical and negative. If you all hate this adoptive country so much why don't you all go back to your nations of birth??- I'm guessing because you'd be just as cynical and defeatist there as well, just paying higher taxes and cost of living doing so.

    So very true Luxfare !

I think that positive farangs with good and healthy life in Thailand with a clear mind is a small minority on this forum.

  2. One of the tiny minority of tourists that the Pattaya police come through for. Do they know how lucky they are?

No unusual for Patts police to be involved in crimes against tourists.

I think 3 years in prison, deportation and a life ban from entering Thailand should be fair.

We don;t need criminals from other countries, we already have enough Thai criminals.

And a lot of farang criminals who needs to be caught and deported too.

  3. I assume you were married in Sweden. Is that correct since it has not been mentioned.

You can do the registration at the embassy. Info here: http://www.thaiembassy.se/en/consular-affairs/for-thai-people/251

Even here it is not all that difficult. It just requires certification of the marriage certificate. translation to Thai and certification of the translation then a trip to the Amphoe for the marriage registration.

    OK !

Tomorrow I am going to check the procedure times here in Stockholm for having our married paper ( married in Sweden ) legalized before she goes to Thailand. I can also send the papers afterwords i think to her in Thailand by post if they can not stamp them in time at the Thai embassy Before May 8.

Thank you all for you help. I am going to try the plan above.

    Best regards

  4. She can go to her local Amphur and change her name to the new one, she will then get a green certificate that shows the name change.

OK ! So you mean it is possible for her to change her name at Amphur without having to proof she is married to me and go through all legalization procedures both in Sweden and Thailand ?

The large legalization procedures is it only when you want to register that you are married + name change at Amphur ?

In my wifes case it is only name change at Amphur. Easy procedure ?

Have I got it correct ?

  5. Hi all !

I need help with suggestions from you. My wife who is Thai is going to Thailand between May 8 and August 16 to visit her parents.

She needs to travel to Thailand with her Swedish passport because embassy have no time for her to do a new passport until June and that is too late for her.

In the Swedish passport she has her surname same as mine but on her Thai ID she has her mothers surname. I have got information that Thai people can go to Thailand with

falang passport without visa ( allowed to stay 30 days ) and then apply for a extension of stay up to one year for 1900 bath at immigration in Bangkok. This is what she is going to do.

Apply for an extension of stay to August 16.

    But !

Surname in Swedish passport and Thai ID is different. I think she must show her Thai ID at immigration to proof she is Thai citizen to get this long extension of stay.

Is this going to be any problem you think ?

If so. What do you suggest she can do simplest way to stay from May 8 to August 16 ? Tickets already bought.

Thank you for your help !

  7. Hi all !

I am going to rent car for the first time when I go to my wives village this summer for 6 weeks in That Phanom area. Maybe you think it is crazy because of the bad traffic situation in Thailand but I must have something safer to drive around with during the days now when I have little daughter 6 years old with me. Before I have used a Honda 100cc motorbike. I have to have some vehicle to escape the village a couple of hours every day to keep my head in good condition. I am going to fix a international driving license in Sweden. I want to rent a car with a automatic transmission so I only have to think about the driving and keep the car safe on

on the left ( wrong side ).

Is it any farang out there on this forum who lives in the That Phanom area that can recommend a good car rental company in the same area ?

    Best regards

  8. I had a similar issue several years ago with my Thai/American son. While we were in the US his Thai passport expired. When I called the Thai Embassy in New York they said not to worry. He will be allowed to enter Thailand on his expired Thai passport. He had no problems at BKK immigration entering Thailand on the expired passport and was advised to renew it. Cheers,,,

Indeed it is no problem, but renewal in Thailand requires beeing on a house hold registration book and he is of an age to be drafted into the militairy. (But exempt for the draft when studying).

    Hi all !

Thank you for your suggestions and replies.

I think we go with his Swedish passport and then he applies for an extension for one year. During this time he is going to work. He is 19 and is registered in a house book. Is this going to be a problem with the military in Thailand you think ? I do not want him ending up with a military duty instead of his work. He is ending high school in June and wants to take one year of from school working in Thailand and then go back to Sweden for studying further after about a year. This is our ground plan anyway. But I am worried he must do his military duty. Is it any way to stall it ?

  9. Hi all !

This my first post to this forum. I need help and suggestion about a problem we have in family with my wife sons Thai passport renewal. We live in Stockholm and today my wife called the Thai embassy and asked for an appointment to renew her sons Thai passport. He is 19 years old and has also Swedish passport. His Thai passport expired last year.

They told her she could not have an appointment until mid June and then it would take several weeks to receive the new passport.

We have planned to go to Thailand in the middle of June and my wife son is going to stay for a year or more and the rest of us is going back to Sweden after 6 weeks.

The man at the embassy told me he could use his Swedish passport for traveling to Thailand and then apply for an extension of stay for one year at immigration in Thailand. Cost 1900 bath. He said it is a service for Thai people who has double citizenship. If he do this I do not think he can work in Thailand even if he is Thai citizen. Or am I wrong ?

The man at the embassy told her that he also have a second option. That is to travel to Thailand with his Swedish passport. Apply for a renewal of his Thai passport in Bangkok. After receiving the new passport. Travel to Laos and cross the border with the Swedish passport and then enter Thailand back with the new Thai passport. Then he can stay as long as he wants because he enter Thailand as Thai.

I need your help here. Is this last option really going to work ? Is it better and safer to go with the firs option and extend his stay with the Swedish passport. Then he cant work which is the whole point with his long stay in Thailand. He has work waiting for him.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestion in this.
