This condo is available Oct 1st. We have just completed furnishings: Large new fridge and large washer included, wifi top speed net included in rent. Flexible terms. western owner. 5 star building in 5 star area, walk to skytrain, and everything else in Nana area. Great quality rental, not your typical 1BR, very unique and special. electricity charge at bill, a great deal for someone looking for quality in this tip top area

My guess is that this is what the OP was alluding to:
In the context of farang land, for a man to be seen on the arm of a particularly attractive woman (the perfect 10 of the OP) is a sign of status -- because it is assumed that such attractive woman would have a lot of people to choose from, and one has to have exceptional qualities (money, looks, talent, humour, sexual prowess, charisma, kindness, etc) to win her over all the others courting her.
I'm not saying anything about the deep inner realities of any relationship -- just the very pragmatic question of value on the dating market.
But for a man to land a perfect 10 in Thailand means a lot less. There's a ton of them around, and the only quality needed to land one is to have money by third world standards -- which is a lot less money than an old, not-too-attractive man would need to land a 20 year old hottie back home. Yeah, Hugh Heffner is still f* Playboy models -- but he has a lot more money than your average LOS expat.
It's like asking: should I feel like hot sh* for getting into Harvard? If they are very selective -- maybe. If they'll take any warm body that turns up? Maybe not.
careful with the truth there canadiangirl. the truth can hurt a great majority of this forum

I especially like the vast selection of Mexican food items to be found in that store. Taco shells in a bubble pack that you cant get anywhere else (no breakage), taco sauces unavailable in any other store, good sour cream (not the foremost crap), all kinds of tortillas (corn and flour), mixes for guacamole, mexi rice, enchiladas, salsa, quesadillas. I could go on and on. Nobody has this stuff: not Foodland, Tops, Carre Four, Tesco, Big C. I mean nobody

Rock On. Villa Market is my favorite store. I live in Bangkok and there's a brand new one around the corner on soi 11. What a great store that is. I spend 1000 baht a week in there on average

what i am still trying to wrap my head around is why people still read stickman?
I dont think many people do anymore but this is a good topic and I'm glad the OP brought it up. It makes for an interesting discussion.

Dukkah, there may have already been some foreshadowing on this very issue of bank statements backing up those embassy income verification letters. A poster named "Lovedablues" posted about this a few months ago

about 50% with the exchange rate situation.

Sounds like a deal. I'll outbid Peace by 100 baht. 8100

Renewed my retirement visa in July, with embassy letter of pension verfication, the only document that was cited was the Embassy Letter, all my bank statements etc. were of no interest to the immigration officer and no medical certifcate requested.Sheryl, seems to depend on where you apply for your next 12 months, the word here is that it has been removed but when I went up to Mae Hong Son in June, I ended up waiting four hours in the local hospital to see a doc for two minutes to provide the health certificate, not a complete waste of time as I needed one anyway to extend my drivers license for another year, the five year license has been scrapped for falang. now you renew every year...
Colin
Well, isn't that special. And congrats.
But the OP issue is about people qualifying by bank account, not pension.
Also that was in July. Are things different now for pension letter people as of aug 1?

I'm sweating up a storm here while reading this thread. Time for yet another shower.

A year ago it was visa exempt that shocked an awed the thai visa world with hundreds of members pouring over threads with concern. Now it's the retirement people. One can only wonder who's next.

Lan access is not included in the rent (only wifi) but can be turned on by the renter if desired but no real need to do that as strong 5 bar signal received from adjacent unit (mine). I will follow this post with pics of pool and jacuzzi; rest of facilities still under construction for about another month
