  1. My wife and I spent 5 weeks in Thailand over Christmas and we tried to find Gluten free bread.

We eventually found some Germinated brown rice bread at S&P Bakery which also has a restaurant .

Although it does not state that it is Gluten free and it did not affect my wife who is gluten intolerant and it is the best gluten free bread that she has tasted.

We cannot get any decent gluten free bread in the UK so we brought 6 loaves back home with us and put them in the freezer.

They also have a good shelf life.

We are going back later this year and will take an extra case with us and fill it to the brim.

Hope this helps any other gluten intolerant holiday makers.

  2. My son who lives in the Khon Kaen area needs to find a live in house keeper/ nanny 35 plus year old to carry out household duties and help his 6 year old daughter with her Thai home work.

He can supply all food and a small salary.

    Any advice welcome.

Please post email address or phone number so my son who can speak Thai but not read Thai so he can contact them.

  3. I am coming to Thailand in a few weeks to stay with my son and my grandchildren and I wish to buy a bed and some furniture and have it delivered to my sons house before I arrive.

Is there any web sites in English other than Mazada that I can buy from that will take payments from my PayPal account.

  4. When I last visited my son in Thailand his wife was always complaining that she did not have enough money .

So I suggested that she should get my sons strimmer , and extension lead and a rake and go around the neighbourhood

And offer to strim the lawns of the local people as they were always offering me money to do it for them.

They were willing to pay approx 300 baht a time for a quick strim round and then rake it up after.

The lazy bitch would not do it as she said it would be to hot doing that kind of work as she sleeps most of the dat in between

eating which she does about 5 times a day.

I suggested that she does it for a couple of hours of an evening but she still refused.

You could go out and buy a couple of strimmers, extension leads and rakes and find a couple of local lads to drive around

The local area offering to do the work at 100 baht a throw and charge 300 baht each garden depending on size.

Or find someone older who needs to make some extra money

You would soon have the money rolling in after investing approx 2000 / 3000 baht.

    Give it a go

  5. Hermes.

    You have 2 choices.

Either take the money she offers you and get the hell out of it so she can carry on scamming other old gullible poor buggers such as your friend.

Or expose her as she needs to be put away for a long time.

As you have been doing this for a long time I cannot understand why you bothered to post this problem on Thai visa as I am sure you have decided what to do as you have done it to others in the past so get on and do it and take her out before she takes you out.

Yes your friend will not get his money back but it would have taught him and others a lesson in the future.

Please keep us posted on what your decision is and how it pans out.

  6. Hi Sheryl

I stand corrected and agree there are certain medications that they say MAY HELP THE FLOW but I have tried these with no success so I recommended that the guy should try the Catheter as that is instant relief until he has the operation that I had which I think is called TURPS

  7. I had the same problem in the uk.

There is no medication to increase the flow of urine as you prostrate is enlarged and is blocking the flow.

You should go and get a Catheter fitted as I had which is a tube that is inserted into your Penis which goes into the bladder and you will need to wear a small bag that can be strapped to your inside leg with a drain valve on it to drain it off when full.

I wore one for 6 months and travelled to Thailand with it but I was stopped at Heathrow and had to go into a small room and drop my pants to show that I was wearing one which was very embarrassing .

The operation that I had did not involve anything shoved up my back passage.

They insert a tube down your penis which they insert a scrapping mechanism which removes the fatty tissues that are inflating your prostrate.

It is also fitted with a camera so they can see what they are doing.

I chose to have injections in my spine so I was awake while the operation took place and I also watched what they were doing on a screen but it was a bit gruesome watching it as they said nobody has asked to watch it before.

I now can pee 1 1/2 metres instead of peeing on my shoes so don't worry about having it done you will feel great after a couple of days

  8. I used to send my son in Thailand clothes and shoes as he has trouble finding size 11 shoes and XL clothes.

We now cannot send clothes and shoes to Thailand as they are now listed as not allowed.

I am in the UK and I would like to know if there are any web sites like eBay or similar in Thailand or Asia where I can order them on line and either pay from my credit card or by Western union.

Any suggestions would be welcomed thanks.

  9. Hi Ben.

My son who is similar age to you and lives and teaches in Thailand and has 2 children now lives on his own with the children after dumping his GF who was a bad mother to the children but he still loves to work and live in Thailand.

He does not want to come back to the UK where he will struggle to get by as finding work over here is as bad as you in the States.

He has just moved into a large rented house with air con and all ameanaties and a 1 acre lake in his back garden as he loves fishing which he pays 5K baht a month for.

With your savings you should be able to seatle into the Thai way quite easily but just be careful with your cash flow as it can soon whittle away.

Once you have found a teaching job as I am sure you will remember that you will still be paid at the end of the month from which you start so that's about 20 per cent of your savings gone already.

You will find that you will have other expenses as well like renting a bike or car which you will also have to pay upfront deposits for

And the rent and expenses fitting out a house or apartment with the likes of bedding and consumables so that's another 20 per cent gone already..

I am 67 years old and as Frank says ( Regrets I've had a few but I did it my way )

Life is very short and it seams that I was 44 just a few years ago so get off your arse and do it your way

  10. Hi All

I am going to stay in a small town near Khon Kaen with my son and family.

I am 67 years old but I have hired a scooter before so I am used to driving around the town with nut case young Thai kids on bikes.

Based on your advice I think I will buy one for around 20 000 baht and if I sell it back at even half the price that I paid it would still be cheaper than hiring one for a year but with second thoughts I think I should leave it with my son so I can use it when I return in around 6- 9 months

  11. Thanks Samran.

Yes we do want to get the Children Thai passports so they do not have to do visa runs with my son.

We would like to bring them over to the UK to visit us as my wife cannot travel at the moment due to ill health but we hope this improves in the near future.

We keep in touch on Skype but it's not the same as being with them as we only see them once a year when the weather is not to hot, but we stay for a couple of months which is good for all of us.

    Regards

  12. He has the Thai Birth certificates but we need to get them translated by a certified translator and also the letter from the courts that confirms he is the sole carer for the Children.

He needs them translated to get UK passports for them

He has many professional Thai friends who may be able to help him with the house book.

    Thanks for your advice Samran

  13. My Grandson is 4 and my granddaughter is 5

He has the Birth certificates but not the the kids House books but none of her details as she has never had a bank account.

He can get good references from his School as he was highly regarded there.

Her Family does not want to know her as she has dumped 2 children on them about 10 years ago which my Son was not aware of.

And she seems to have a bad track record as things like this have happened before

  14. Hi all

Thanks for your advices, some good some bad some indifferent.

My Son has now found a place way out of town and possibly a new job but I think my best bet would to for me to pay off the Sharks

Approx 50000 Bht at least I will still have my Grand children and Son complete with a pair of legs and tell them that he is going back to the UK so if they lend her any more money they can put her back on the streets of BK where she belongs to pay it back and she can then rot in Hell.

I don't think I need to give you 3 guesses who runs the Loan Sharks and gambling Dens .

At least we may be able to sleep at night without waking up and worrying what's happened to him and the kids.

    Regards.

  15. Thanks for your advise

I have moved them now to a small Hotel until the end of Sonkran then will try to find somewhere else to live but she will sell all of the furniture and anything else they have.

He wants to stay at the School where he works and find somewhere local to live away from her.

Her name is on the rental agreement so he is not tied to that but he will not get his deposit back as she has wrecked the house

She took his motor bike but he managed to find it now.

  16. My Son who lives in Thailand with his partner and 2 children .

His partner has become very lazy and will not do any work or cooking for the family

She demands money all the time and when he gives her money for food she stays out all night gambling and returns to the house when the money has gone.

She borrows money from loan sharks and expects my son to pay her debts .

My son refused to pay her debts but the loan sharks marched him to the nearest ATM and made home draw out the money for them.

They threaten him with violence if he does not pay them.

He is now paying 5000 Bht per month interest on her loans.

She stays out all night so my son has to feed the children, wash and iron their cloths and take them to school and collect them after school.

He is an English Teacher in a local Government School and it is causing him embarrassment within the School.

He has asked her to leave and go back to her family but they do not want her with them .

He got her to sign papers through the courts so he has sole custody of the children but he had to pay her to do it.

He has tried to lock her out of the house when she goes off gambling but she has smashed the doors and windows with a hammer and threatens to set fire to the house during the night.

She has sold a lot of my sons possessions to feed her habit and also thrown his phones in water if he does not give her more money.

He has tried to report her but they say it is a domestic problem and will not help as it is not the Thai way.

She will not sign any papers for my son to get a passport for them so he can bring them to see us in the UK .

Any ideas will be appreciated .

  17. Hi Soutpeel

My wording due to a low carbon content is I agree as not the only factor that the material is non magnetic or magnetic with a higher content.

Magnetism can also increase in these metals when cold working is involved as in Centreless grinding , the magnetic permeability may be increased .

  18. I agree that with heat treatment you can make Austenitic non magnetic the issue regarding types 304L and 316L are both have a low Carbon content that what the L indicates which adds to the metals being non magnetic

  19. Hi Woody,Nick,spoonman and Jesse.

    Round 2

Woody is correct that rust is indeed Iron Oxide.

All steel comes from Iron Ore extracted from the ground and is treated in different ways to make all Steel such as Stainless Steel

and Mild steel which is also called Carbon Steel as it has a high Carbon content ( Try Googling it ).

Carbon is the only non metallic element that is Magnetic.

Stainless Steel comes in different types .

Martensitic Stainless as types 410,416'431 are used mainly for machined items and comes in bar form and is classed as a magnetic Stainless Steel.

Ferritic Stainless Steel as type 430 as Woody states is also Magnetic and is only supplied in strip or sheet form.

Austenitic Stainless as types 302,304. 304l , 321 , 347 , 303 , 316 , 316L , and 310 are the most used Stainless Steels and is supplied in many forms as Tube , Pipe, Angle , Flat Bar , Chanel, Beams , sheet and Plate and are all non magnetic due to the low content of Carbon.

I have worked in this Industry for 53 years from a boy on the shop floor making Tea and sweeping up and I am a skilled fabricator in sheet ,plate and pipework and I was a coded welder in Mig,Tig and MMA in all positions and also coded for Titanium welding so I have been there, done it and worn the tee shirt.

    Woody.

I think that you were unfair to Nick the Greek as he only wanted to know why Stainless steel gates were so expensive as he is not as cleaver as you with you knowledge of Steels?

  20. Hi Woody

The reason stainless steel does not rust is because it has a low Carbon content which means it is non magnetic.

Some Stainless steels such as the type used for knives and fork are magnetic as they need to be so they can be sharpened so they will have a high Carbon content and they can rust slightly if left exposed to water.

As I said in my last post that I use type 304L the L stands for low carbon .

I usually use type 316 L the has an even better resistance to water and it is also resistant to a lot of chemicals such as acids that can affect the strength of the materials especially in the food industry
