  1. If the UK are going to save millions of Thai lives with their Astra Zeneca Oxford vaccine, then could the Thai immigration please show their gratitude by giving all British people free visas for life.

Without it many Thai people will die.

The same to the EU countries if they should chose our vaccine. As it is they are only going to allow the British a 70 day visa now that the UK has left the EU.

The British saved Europe from fascist domination three times and now we are saving your lives again.

  2. OH, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat;

I think that Kipling was musing about the Muslims in India and yes they never meet eye to eye with the West as Hindus and Sikhs do, or did.

I was married to Japanese before and they are OK with the West.

It should be; Oh, Middle East is Middle East.....tra la, la!

  3. "Even teachers need a Degree" or something TEFL?

    Really!!

A TEFL is not a degree. You must have a degree in Thailand, Japan and China to teach English in a school or an adult language school these days. You also must have a work permit and it must be applied for in your country and have a job to go to.

Some people might be lucky and teach in private houses, but they would prefer young Western women.

We only have ourselves to blame if the Thais, don't like us farangs.

I see fat bellied old men walking around towns and shopping malls with no shirts on and farang women sunbathing topless on the beach.

Many Thais are shocked by this and regard it as disrespectful.

They also see us as perverts only coming for the sex and cheap booze, where'as massage and prostitution in Thailand is an accepted low key part of their culture and nothing to be ashamed of.

I have been to China 3 times for the same reasons you give.

The Girls there are beautiful, but materialistic and educated, they know what they want from a man and that usually means good financial support for her and her famiy if neccesary, so this means a good job and no beach bums.

The whole country wants what we have. flat screen TVs fridges, cars, branded fashion goods and food with Western names. Hip hop and expensive sophisticated nightclubs and disco's. And as far as I couid tell, that is all they are focused on.

Yes they are starting to love their nature and their old culture of art and music too.

But really you need a wad to be there.

They love to go around in groups and don't seem too keen on individualistic lifestyles.

The other thing is that you only get a one months visa. That's it! unless you are a teacher or have a job there. (Even English teachers need a degree in something )

In some places you will need a hefty non returnable security deposit to rent a place.

You will get hassled by the minute when you walk down the street on Beijing and Shanghai, by people trying to sell you something or con you.

On two occasions I went in spring and got very bad chest infections, I think due to the habit of men and women spitting up phlegm right in front of you and the extreme cold of spring ( March )

I rushed back to ill to Thailand and sat on a nice warm beach under a coconut tree with a plate of tropical fruit. Ahhhh!.

All the taxi drivers smell of garlicky fish source. God know what they eat, but it is putrifying and they don't stop using their horns.

But don't let me put you off haha!

Please keep us informed as to how you get on there.

  5. 20,000 baht of rice is a hell of a lot. .

I would make a two year plan for rearing chickens and maybe pork on the land. Feed them the rice.

Try to exchange some of the rice for the start-up livestock to reduce costs if the rice is that worthless.

The family would have pork from weaners after 8 months for the pigs and 7 weeks from day old chicks for the chickens.

The family would get meat and eggs to sell and for their own consumption, thus reducing their living costs.

I know a lady in Chonburi that had only 200 chickens that gave her an income of 5000 baht for just the eggs, after costs.

They should also create good size vegetable and fruit beds to feed themselves and maybe have some produce to sell at the farm gate.give

I see many Isaan farmers only relying on a solo crop and hope that it will give them the cash they need for the year.

They go off doing part time jobs to supplement their income. Or send their daughter to work haha!

My G F parents only have 7 rai and they only farm sticky rice which is low in value.

I ask why they don't plant Jasmine rice, which is in high demand abroad, but they say it wont grow???

They live off 150 baht a day for everything.

They did have a large pond for catfish, crabs and prawn, but it wasn't near their house and people used to poach from it.

I refuse to support them, but my GF works and sends them some money of her own.

  6. wai.gif I recently took a minibus visa run from Koh Samui to the Malaysian border.

The driver had 3 mobile phones and a walky talky to communicate with a second minibus from the same company.

The driver never stopped talking on his phones during the whole trip and driving very fast. w00t.gif

Most times he was holding 2 phones and talking to two different callers and many times he used all three mobiles and steered the mininbus with his knees.

    It was horrendous.

On the way back to the port on the return journey a German or Russian woman passenger screamed at him to stop and he turned round and nearly threw her off the bus, but at least he eventually stopped and sullenly sulked for the last few miles.

This happens all too often on buses and taxis in Thailand and I am thinking of buying a Mobile phone signal scrambler to take on journeys with me.

Apparently when you switch it on a mobile phone message comes up saying No Signal!

    Anyone know a good supplier?
