  1. You wife can enter Thailand on her Thai passport. The difference in names will not matter since Thailand does not know about it unless you got married here. For traveling to here she can use both passports. She can show her marriage certificate to justify the difference in names.

Have you gotten your son a Thai birth certificate from the Thai embassy. He has Thai nationality from birth but will need the birth certificate to prove it. You could of applied for a Thai passport for him when you registered his birth.

If he enters on visa exempt entry you can get him a one year extension at immigration as a returning Thai national. You will need his birth certificate showing his mother is Thai and proof of her Thai nationality. This can be done at any immigration office as long as you have a local address to put on the application form.

Thanks. Any thoughts on the going to Tak for a "visa" run part, in case we don't make it to the embassy before hand to get his thai details in order.

  2. Hi. We're flying to Thailand feb 3rd-march 27th. I have a few questions.

    1) My wife is Thai/Swedish and has both passports. But her thai passport has not been updated with name change. She now used old last name as middle name.

Will she be able to enter Thailand using it?

    2) My son (swedish, 18months) and her will need a visa as they only get 30 days on the swedish passports. We can either get the visa before. Or they can go to Myanmar via Tak and go in/out. Will that be a problem entering/exiting? We can show planetickets going home 27th of march. I heard a lot of fuss about visa runs, but figure it mostly applies to borderrunners that use this frequently.

Is there a third option (that does not involve a long day at some office in Bangkok) to get an extention?

    Thanks.
