  1. Flew with MH last saturday all the way from Jakarta. As usual great service on board except that i saw none of their ground staff at the boarding gate until the very last minute. Usually there is always someone checking the boarding pass after the security. Will be flying again with them next week to Singapore.

  2. The 30 kg luggage allowance is the worst thing about MAS. I get a shopping list as long as a haggis' Grace.

hahaha... first time i saw people complain of getting extra baggage allowance. I suggest you charge service fees from whoever giving you the shopping list. I believe MAS is among the few premium airlines that is offering 30kg baggage allowance. Enjoy the shopping trip buddy... i'm flying back to BKK next week on MAS.
  3. I checked their prices for a Chiang Mai to Sydney ticket.......and they are a hell of a lot cheaper than the others. Last year they wanted about 36,000.....This year only 27,000 all up. Seat selection another 500 baht per flight. I'd consider that for the KL-Syd leg.

Bangkok Airways to Bkk then Malaysia Airlines to KL...... a couple of hours there for some satay and then to Syd. A pretty good deal I'd reckon.

I was wondering if anyone here has done it. Would I go through immigration in Chiang Mai and forget about my bag or would I have to go through immigration in Bangkok? ....in which case I'd have to collect my bags and then head back to the check in counter. That'd take away from any benefit of the cheaper ticket for me.

I think if you have a through ticket all the way from CNX to SYD with MAS, then you can do through check-in at CNX itself ie CNX-BKK with Bangkok Airways and BKK-SYD with MAS. You can also check in your baggage at CNX and just transit in BKK without having to re-do immigration and re-checkin your bag. But if you have a separate tickets, then it is different case already.
  4. Think about bit for a moment; neither of the two recent major incidents were the airlines fault.

    I thought about it.

They made the choice to fly over a war zone to save fuel costs when other airlines chose to avoid it.

Nobody endangers my life to save a few bucks.

    I wouldn't fly them again.

Flying an airplane is not like driving a car or bike. Pilot do not have the freedom to fly wherever they wanted to go. Flight plan must be filed to relevant countries and authorities over the path where the aircraft is flying. ATC of each respective countries has absolute control on which path each aircraft is flying. They controled the altitude, the airway and to certain extend the speed of the aircraft.

No exception in the case of MAS. They were instructed to fly at 33,000 feet when originally they were asking to fly at 35k ft. Along the same path, there are many more airlines flying at that time. That includes Lufthansa, Singapore and Air India among others. If you choose to avoid MAS because of the flight path, then be prepared to avoid flying with many other airlines or you can choose to use airlines that goes around the world to reach your destination. Journey like LHR-KUL that takes around 12hrs could end up with 24hrs with other airlines using different route. Your choice buddy... everyone has the freedom to choose.

As for me, i'll stick with MAS where possible as 90% of my journey with them is nothing but pleasant.

  5. While it is not relevant to their current difficulties, it is worth bearing in mind that a few years back Malaysian was warned twice about coming into London Heathrow without the required amount of fuel, following the usual post-landing ground checks.

I believe they were told in no uncertain terms that UK landing rights would be rescinded if they were caught again.

An experienced pilot from another airline was quoted at the time as saying that, with the level of fuel they were carrying, if they had to do an emergency climb or avoidance manoeuvre, they would likely leave the tops of the fuel pipes exposed, leading to airlock in the supply. Also it opened up the possibility that they would have to claim priority landing rights at what is the world's busiest airport, screwing up air traffic control procedures.

At the time it was suggested that they were doing this simply to save money. It is this, rather than recent events, that would put me off.

dude... i'm not sure you are talking via facts. I know for a fact that Malaysia Airlines planes has complied to all the FAA rules even in UK. Their plane were inspected immediately the moment the aircraft is on choke. And they have all BA Engineers and Airbus Engineers onsite for all their technical handling. The past 2 incidents was a tragedy that nothing the airline could do. The fact an airplane was lost is a mystery by itself. And the fact that their plane was shot down is a criminal act in nature. You can take all other airlines in the world and they could suffer similar fate. In my line of job, i travel quite extensively and for most of the time (80%) i travel with MAS mainly due to the cabin crew factor and the good fare they offered. I would travel with them anytime all the time unless their incidents can proven due to their engineering inefficiency. Your chances of being hit and die by a car or bus in Bangkok is much higher.

  6. i lived in kl for some years and went with a muslim girl whose family was involved in politic system if you are not malaya and islam you got no where in life or any jobs that would be a threat to there inner clan if you are the dunce at school and malaya and islam you will get any job in govt including airlines army police because they say only islam are to control country before any indian and chiness frighten might get some control even if 3rd generation born there singh was always a thorn in the corrupt govt side not one ounce off truth will ever come out of that country cheers

I'm astonished to read such remarks from you. Are you sure you live in KL and with a muslim girl ??? Are you sure you are not somewhere in a sheethole where you really belong ? Excuse me for my language but you are really ignorant of what is the reality in Malaysia. I suggest that you spend at least one week in KL and see for yourself who actually is controlling the country. And stop being a racist.

  7. Boeing run this advert a few years back

Very ill intention. That's not even B777... I would generally say that the impact on the missing airplane is very minimal over this side of the world. Perhaps in China or Malaysia the consequences can be severe.

But that incident doesn't affect my travel plan, in fact, last saturday i boarded MH flight out of BKK and my my my.... It was a full flight in both economy class and business class cabin.

  8. Malaysia Airlines is still considered as one of the best airlines here in Asia Pacific. Their alliance with all the Oneworld carrier really make a lot a difference in terms of my travel choices. I flew with them many times now to North and South America via London and connect with British Airways or TAM for onwards to either states or latin. They have a really good price now (this week) to Australia and places like Darwin or Ayers Rock. I was also told today that they have a really good prices to Europe from tomorrow onwards. Their prices has become really competitive for the last few months. At least this year i've booked 4 flights out of BKK with only Malaysia Airlines. Also if you check carefully from their internet and if you are planning for a short excursion to Kuala Lumpur, their price on the last daily flight (MH779) out of Bangkok is really damn cheap. I have no hesitation flying with Malaysia Airlines... They have one of the best gorgeous cabin crew.
