  1. I got an email from Newport that stated: passport has been issued today (25/05/14) and will be delivered to the office in Bangkok shortly. They will contact you when the passport will be ready for collection/delivery.

That was 13 days ago and not heard anything, I have emailed Trendy and they said they would be in touch should it arrive.

Any one had a similar experience and know how long it should take to come from the UK to Bangkok?

    Thanks.

  2. Did anyone get a reference number when submitting their application at VFS Trendy ?

I phoned the HMPO hotline and they said they couldn't tell me anything without a reference/tracking number, which I didn't get.

They also said the wait time for a new (first issue) passport has been raised to a minimum of eight weeks - not sure if this applies to renewals?

Would quite like a passport incase things go t1ts up next week!

    Thanks.

  3. Thanks for the advice. I decided to go to Major Hollywood in the end as Lat Prao didn't seem that enticing.

I went after lunch and it was fairly quiet and people were getting seen pretty quickly.

Bit of a dump but service was pretty good so can't complain.

I posted a bit more info in this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/696226-immigration-services-at-cheang-wattana-now-suspended/?p=7678027

    Thanks for the help.

  4. Just got back from Major Hollywood for an extension for my tourist visa.

Timed the journey wrong and got there just as they went off for lunch so had an hour wait to get my ticket. There were only about 5 people ahead of me waiting for a ticket.

Then it took about an hour to be seen and get my passport back as the lady on the tourist visa wasn't seeing anyone to begin with.

The other counters for non-imm O and 90 day reporting were going down quickly though.

There isn't much to do in Major Hollywood apart from get a massage and eat some grim looking food.

But they have lots of photo and copy shops in there and its very quick to get to from Silom/Rama III area in a taxi on the highway.

Thanks for all the advice and help.

  5. I'm off to Lad Prao immigration soon to get a 30 day extension for my tourist visa (TM7 form).

I think I need to bring photocopies of my passport main page, the visa and the TM6 departure/arrival card, plus a photo and 1900 baht.

Do they have photocopies at the Lad Prao centre or should I get them done before hand?

Also, it says they open at 10.30 am but what time would be best to get there for an early exit?

I take it they don't have the same amount of desks and fast service that you get at Chaeng Wattana?

Any good food or shops nearby or things to do?

    Any tips much appreciated!

    Thanks

  6. In 7-11 they have two True USB dongles for getting online on your laptop/computer. The main difference looks like the speeds.

Are these a good option or should I shop around for a better product? Are those ones locked into True?

    If so any recommendations?

Also, I take it they use a sim card to get online - which is a good data package for this type of connection?

I won't be downloading any large files as can do that at home so will be mostly accessing web pages for a few hours a day and uploading the occasional photo (50k in size).

I would be using it in Bangkok and Phuket occasionally.

    Thanks!

  7. I've just submitted an application for a first passport for my child born in Thailand at the Trendy Tower (28th floor).

For my proof of address they seemed happy to take a bank statement from a UK bank account with my Thai address on. Will see if its accepted at the other end!

They kept all the supporting documents such as birth certificates (but not parents passports) to send with the application (I presume).

When you arrive at the office, you still have to take a number and wait your turn. I think the appointment time is just a rough idea of when to go.

I had a print out of my email but you could easily make an appointment email in Word and print it out. No one seemed to check my name with any schedule of appointments.

The office is packed with non-Brits making applications for UK visas (I presume) and it was standing room only but I was seen within a few minutes of arrival.

You can take your phone in but cannot take it out of your pocket while inside.

There is also a passport photo machine and photocopier inside the room too incase you need to make a quick copy but there were queues for it.

There are coffee shops and a bar on the ground floor if you need refreshments.

Hopefully it will all go through ok and we will have a new passport in a few weeks/months.

    Good luck!

  8. I'm having trouble visiting HTTP sites, can access HTTPS sites and login to apps like Skype.

This does happen to others according to a Google search, but for me its only happening in the evenings - about 10pm to midnight.

Does this sound like something the ISP might do? I'm with True.

Anyone heard of this happening before?

I've tried different browsers, virus checking, connecting via ethernet to no avail.

    Thanks

  9. I'm going to Phuket for a week (Bang Tao) and would like to be able to get online as much as possible during that time.

I plan to use my laptop but I have a basic smartphone which I could use as a modem (I think).

Any suggestions on how I could get online for that week with a decent speed for browsing the web on the laptop?

I'm currently with pre-pay AIS on my phone but the 3g that I've tried (49 baht a day) is pretty useless for surfing the web.

I don't mind getting another pre-pay sim for the week if that is the best option in terms of coverage and speed on Phuket.

Would a USB dongle that I could plug the sim into be a better option?

    Any tips?

    Thanks
