  1. So why in my 26 years of departing at Bangkok's airport with 1 day overstay, NO fine?

For sure its a FINE for 1 day overstay via land crossing, LEGAL maybe not the correct phrase/meaning ...I'm not here to split hairs, but it sure states this "1 day overstay allowed if traveling by air" somewhere if you look..

I am told that if departing from the airport, versus a land border, there is a one day grace period on the overstay fine.
My son came to visit last year and I miscalulated the days when I booked the flight which resulted in a one day overstay. They didnt fine him but did stamp his passport with this red stamp. It was his first visit to Thailand. He said they were very good to him.
  2. Read today that the UK government spent 770 thousand pounds on NK since 2011 including 37 thousand in 2014 for a trip of 10 NK civil servants to the UK to educate them on media and other projects. To add that the US and UK have a funded university in the NK capital and the dear leader was educated in Switzerland it does pose the question that its in the wests interest to keep these idiots in power to keep and fear going in order to keep the arms industry going.

  3. I think the Government has done well so far in this period of drought and dont think Songkran which only lasts one day where I live will make much difference to the supply. I do hope they are aware that in a hot climate you can only survive less than a week without water. If it does run dry there will be chaos in this country and I hope they are aware of that. So far so good.

  4. It is mainly supermarkets and 7elevens, a bit like the old halfpenny in the UK which took years to get rid of.

I have over 300 bahts worth, all bagged, but I do not have the balls to go into a 7eleven or supermarket, asking them if they want to exchange them, and certainly would not use them for a purchase !

Tesco and 711 would love them. Our local ones put out an appeal for people to bring them in as the banks would no longer supply them.
  5. She has a UK pension from time as a teacher and will also get the old age pension soon.

Shes basically looking for something so she doesnt get bored. Obviously if a visa and wp was supplied that would be a bonus.

I have made her aware both paid and unpaid work requires a wp.

Hopefully her experience as a teacher may be of benefit to others.

And once she relocates over here, her UK pensions(s) will be frozen.

Why would that be? Her pension was a pay in pension from the UK. The old age pension can be payed into a UK account. There are no concerns regarding this.
I think they mean any future increase in said pension would be frozen not the pension itself. Also winter fuel allowence would go. But thats if she tells them.
  6. Have any TV members living in rural and urban drought risk areas seen any actual measures to combat the water shortage where you live?

It would be useful to know if the junta's plan is anything more than hot air or, if happening, effective where you are.

    Thank you.

I have here. The government gave 20 million bht to extend water storage early last year so yes measures where taken. I went to the place while they were working on it. So all this government bashing is getting a little tired.

I am curious. Did they build after the rain or before?.Has it been able to increase its storage during the drought? Has the water being retained in your area increased?

Or is it all about next years water?

It was done before the rains last year around January. We still have water so I assume it must have made a difference. They had diggers and trucks there for months.

  8. OP do you live in a city?

If yes i cannot help you.

If you live in a village easy, grow veg/ keep chickens/ rear fish, many things to keep you busy.

Another suggestion is do things together with your wife ( sorry i lost the plot ).

    get yourself a loving dog,

    who doesnt answer back.

will greet you when you come home,SOBER OR PEEYED.

you can take it for walks,

    doesnt snore in bed,

and will always be there for you.

and not forgetting the family doesnt visit.

    love me love my dog.

    meatboy.

Great post. I got 9 dogs and most of the family stay away keeps me busy and am surounded by love. And you feel good in saving the street dogs and giving them a great life.
  9. Went to Tesco Lotus today and bought a couple of bottles of Carlsberg at 70 bht each. Checked my reciept on the way out they charged me 77 bht. They did refund the difference but said they are waiting on new labels as the government put the price of beer up the same day they put cigarettes up in price but people dont know. Anyone else noticed this?

  10. I went to book for the whole family last year with Nok Air to Chang Mai. 8 people in total. Did the booking on the website and when it came to the payment stage it wouldnt process. Repeated calls to the centre who said I maybe doing something incorrect. So I tried again and nothing. Final call confirmed there was an error on the website and could I try again tomorrow. I didnt and never will again.

  11. Just got my first 5 year licence. Previously had the 1 year temp licence. I needed a certificate of residence, medical form, copy if passport and visa. Actually got 5 years and 10 months and it expires on your birthday. All really easy.

That is correct and you have to do this stupid tests in addition to all the photocopies, the color chart and the reaction test atlas here in Pattaya . What is weird is they don't seem to know the regulations regarding the yellow tabien baan (House book). Let me explain : When you get your Yellow book you get a thai Identification number almost the same as a Thai person, for my Thai wife it starts with 03-xxxxxxx and for me it starts with 06-xxxxxxx as foreigner , That is the number that should be on the Drivers License and not the passport number. I told them and they did not have a clue what I was talking about. My passport expires 2017 and my licence expires 2021. This will mean that I'll have the wrong passport number for about four years on my licence. Anyone out there the have a suggestion on what to do...

You have to do renew of your licence with the correct passport number. Not done it yet but will be in the same boat in a few years.
  12. i dont get it - this is a fellow Thai that decided not to pay back her 30m loan because didnt plan on going back home, however instead of attacking the THAI they attack harvard? <deleted> has harvard got to do with her decission to not pay back the loan in THailand>

everything when they employ her as most Unis have ethics committees and Harvard's have gone to sleep

Emmm Unis have ethics???? Intersting. Did anyone kick up a fuss when the Uni in Switzerland educated Kim Jung or the one in France who educated Pol Pot? Me thinks not.
  13. This is one of the rare policies I support

For those who enjoy the cigarettes ....paying more is not taking any rights away

Only for the poor who may just have one pleasure in life....

Now im a smoker but if your only pleasure in life is a cigarette then thats sad. If there that poor they usually smoke rolls ups. I dont care either was still cheaper than back in the UK and I can afford it but wish governments wouldnt lie and say its do with the health of the public. And wish they had at least given notice. I would have stocked up on a years supply.

    Why sad....?......

What's your only pleasure in life then..?

It is sad because that only pleasure

    Is slowly killing you.

    That is fact not fiction

I have news for you. And its not a widely know but its true. Ready......... big drum role........... "non smokers die everyday" Fact.......
