As if they are a government and nation to themselves controlling the police, business and the destiny of Thais and foreigners on their turf. This "powerful" village administrator seems to be pushing in the face of the general's efforts to clean Thailand up.

Thanks to all for your help .As I understand it I definitely need a visa before I go. As I cant get one via the internet and I live in Patong what are my options? I did visit Myanmar last year and crossed at the land border at Mesai , no problems there just paid a small fee .

Hi , I am going to Myanmar next month and want to know if I need a visa before going there or can I get one at the airport ? I am an Australian citizen living in Thailand on a retirement visa and will be flying into Mandalay .

This is the first I've heard about evidence of funds in foreign (or rather home country) banks being used for a retirement visa.

Can anyone else verify this?

I agree , I am not allowed to use my money in my Australian acc , has to be in a Thai bank, as far as I know this has not changed .

Keep on dreaming, the way they treat tourist in Thailand these days, scamming, robberies, beatings, hotel theft, jetski mafia, taxi mafia, etc. etc. Me think most tourist have found other destinations already.

Couldn't agree with you more .I live in Patong and every week in the local newspaper there are reports of all of the above .

Just looked up the weather forecast for Patong and they say 100% chance of rain from Wednesday and for the next few days after .
