  1. Maybe its just Thai style planning...

Buriram is indeed growing at a fast pace. We have been living here for nearly 17 years. Everywhere around the city there has been a lot of uilding construction including renovation of much of the downtown area going on for the past 3 years. The effect of a ery successful football franchise Buriram United with average attendance at matches over 19,000 paid admissions (see TPL stats for confirmation) and the upcoming opening of the Buriram Circuit are fueling a lot of the growth. New hotels: Ma Maison, Chateau Tada, Best Western, Amari along with increased number of rooms at Siri Resort and Thepnakorn and lots of new smaller "resorts" is evidence of significant growth. Newin said in a recent interview that even more entertainment activities are coming soon. He even mentioned bungee jumping. Sabaidee Buriram Magazine was launched 8 months ago and already has a circulation of 5,000 copies monthly. The Lively Mall across from Taweekit Plaza on Jira Road is scheduled to open on Christmas Day. The only thing I dislike about all this is the increased traffic but even then it is so much better than in Bangkok. With the new shopping centers and restaurants, and parks bring it on!

  2. Tragic story. Anyone know anything about this snake? Did a search on Thap Samingkla and the only hit was this story. Nothing in Wikipedia either.

The snake is commonly ferred to as a banded krait. Google it. There are snake sites with photos. These snakes are always deadly. We have killed three of them in the 17 years we have lived in Buriram. Tap Saming (white and black banded, ngoo tahp samingkhla) and Sang Ateet also a banded krait, orange and black banded triangular shaped (ngoo samliam) both are extremely dangerous.

  3. To me not really either and maybe the word is badly chosen, sorry.

There might be activities that one can do without them being qualified as volunteering and thus requiring a WP, but still this is a grey area for me.

Let's say I want to build a small playground area for the kids in the school nearby home, I would not believe this qualifies as any kind of work activity

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

You can do that. I have made significant contributions to schools by purchasing desks, uniforms and shoes for kids, school supplies had kitchens and kindergartens built, roofs replaced, trees planted, walls built. I do not actually do the work but I always have volunteers show up who do some of it or they help raise the funds,we go to the building supply houses order and pay for the materials and we pay for the Thai laborers to do the actual work. I go along and watch, drink coffee. I am on a retirement visa. I am not considered to be working. I am a retired school administrator. Whatever you do enjoy it.

  4. With its latest win against Suphanburi 4-0 on Saturday night Buriram is now 2 points ahead in the stats of its TPL fellow contenders (56 points)  Patino's performance was great as he scored a hat trick 3 goals of the four.  Suchao got the fourth.  Carmelo Gonsalves had to sit this game out after his misbehavior at Ratchburi last week.  Fortunately Buriram United won that match with a score of 2-1.   Bec Tero Sasana's loss to Srisaket was unexpected (3-2).  This month the five remaining matches involveing Buriram may keep Buriram on top but Muang Thong is now at 53 points  and Chonburi has 54 and both still very strong competitors.  They will be strong challengers. Go Buriram United, take the LEC Cup and the division 1! Bangkok Glass I hope you get the FA Cup! Whip Muang Thong's behind.

  5. I sometimes get irritated when I see relatives dropping papers, coconut shells debris etc in my yard,or leaving their dirty dishes on my picnnic table while I am busying raking the yard. I told them I don't appreciate pigs because pigs are messy. I said don't be a pig. They smiled but did pick up their trash.
