  1. A couple of weeks ago I was walking down my street and saw a woman that looked absolutely terrible. Her face was blueish-blackish and swollen on one side. The worst thing: she was obviously embarassed that I saw it.

How would you react in such a situation? I mean, back home I might try starting a conversation with such a woman and ask if she is all right... I feel bad of not having reacted but then again, I guess, I couldn't have done anything, I might just have 'embarassed' her more....

  2. I would say, if you were anything like me, the next step would be gaining about 10 pounds in weight!!!

Ok, WHY exactly do we gain weight when we stop smoking? I know many people substitute ciggies for snaks, chupa chups, chocolate or other things.

I haven't really done any of this, actually, I have been especially careful not to give into cravings, but still, I have gained about 3 kilos in the last 5 weeks since I stopped smoking.

Somebody once told me that it had to do with how the body produces insulin and that smoking gets your insulin production out of balance and that usually within 6 months you're back to normal again.... But that seems kind of vague... Anybody have a medical explanation?

  3. I have been off ciggies for a couple of weeks now and am actually surprised how easy it is. Before quitting I thought I simply couldn't be without them, but now I realize I can... Of course there are times when I would like to have one - especially when I am going out having a drink.

Three weeks ago it was raining and I had been trying to get a taxi for over half an hour. Then I finally got one and after anohter half an hour (we made less then 1km) he gave up and dropped me off. Then... oh boy, I really needed a ciggie. I went to the next 7 Eleven (through the pouring rain) and bought a pack. Feeling like such a loser but being really exited at the same time. I guess I told myself that I deserved one after all this taxi, rain, no way to get home sh**. Well, I smoked a ciggie and started feeling very strange. I felt sick to my stomach, started sweating like crazy and just wanted to throw up... It's then that I realized that ciggies are pure poison. I threw away the pack immediately - found a taxi and was home an hour later... Ever since then, I have only had a couple of cravings. Needless to say that I only have to think of how sick I felt to not give in.

  4. something else I really miss here is Champagne... I am quite a Champagne drinker - or let's say: used to be.... However, paying 3000 Baht for a bottle of Moet (which, in my opinion, is not even a very good champagne)- in the supermarket, for crying out loud - is simply ridiculous... For that price I buy 3 bottles of GOOD champagne back home.

I don't even know what a bottle costs in a bar. I am sure it's better not to know.

  5. Hey again,

By now I have found some stuff that fits well, it just takes time and patience. Central is always a good option, then Pena House, Jaspal,, Jim Thomson or Georges Reich...

There is only one thing I really can't find: jeans that are long enough. I wear mostly levi's and need them to be either lenght 34 or 36. In central chitlom they say women's jeans are only available until length 32 in Thailand... I usually distrust anybody saying "in Thailand...." and this particular statement seems quite ridiculous. So girls: where can you get jeans in a decent lenght?

    Thanks, zata

  6. Anyone up for next weekend (Sept. 9)?  Just got all moved in to my new spot in Suan Luang and I've met a few women who are brand new to Thailand.

We went to a good spot on Udon Sook last time, any other suggestions?

I know Shola may be in the UK, how about everybody else?

Welcome to Suan Lang. You will love it there. I have myself lived in this street for a little over 3 months now and really really like the area! Good choice :-)

About the upcoming weekend: i would be happy to join in with the other grannies.

    Cheers, zata.

  7. I think that women who carry themselves in the appropriate manner and avoid getting themselves in foolish situations are unlikely to be regarded as hookers.

I am really sorry, but this is one of the most stupid things that have been said in this forum so far.... Ok, so what you are saying is that technically if we get asaulted it is our own fault??? That we didn't carry ourselves in an appropriate manner?!!! There are, unfortunately, still man that think this... Have you read the posts before you posted your 50 cents??? The posters said there were shopping, wearing normal clothes when things like this happened... And hey, even if we were wearing mini skirts... that gives no man the right to grab our a... or do anything the like. Gee, I can't believe this...

  8. One more thing: two or three weeks ago I had dinner with a bunch of people and this topic came up... And of course there was a very smart person telling us that western women are just not 'real women' anymore... And guess who stood up most against this comment: the western men on the table...

And to tripXcore... I do agree that women are not like they used to be 50 or even 20 years ago... And THANK GOD to that....

And there is one thing that I don't agree with: women nowadays do not really consider what kind of lifestyle 'he' will be able to provide to her... For my part, I make enough money to have a pretty good lifestyle of it... and guess why: it is because I DID go to a top school, etc. Yes, women are more demanding now... But I think mostly, they are more demanding of themselves.

  9. This is probably a small part of the problem... :D

"Ah, yes, divorce...from the Latin word meaning to

rip out a man's genitals through his wallet." -- Robin Williams

    :o

But to get serious: I agree with the other posts: let it go, ignore it...

And: ask yourself why many (not all!) farang men - I specifically mean the ones that have "girlfriends" half their age and even less their size - see women like you, me or many other women on this forum; successful, independent and well-educated women as so threatning that they have to badmouth them... And then.. do you really care what those men think?

  10. If you just want T's try the "X-LARGE" chain of outlet shops, (and don't whinge at me I did not name them) they sell stuff  made for big US clothiers like GAP, AMERICAN EAGLE, ABERCROMBIE et al.

Decent  T-shirts, kind of funky, and cheap B150-300.

You can find them in SILOM COMPLEX, CENTRAL RAMA 3,

and I have seen others but forgot where.

    :o

And where can we find one of those X-LARGE outlet stores? Thanks

  11. Same problem with every language. This saturday, next saturday... Are we both talking about tomorrow or different saturdays? Tomorrow is ok with me, next week probably not since the pissup is on friday. In case it is tomorrow, where and what time? Somewhere Silom area?

    Hi Margie,

if you girls meet tomorrow, I'll be happy to join in! What about having a nice drink at Vertigo?

    Cheers, zata

  12. Wow,

Thanks for all the replies and the tips; I will definitely make use of them them. And thanks also for telling Alex that he is the only one around this forum that still has some ‘growing’ to do.

And if anybody knows the best dietary tips for how to get shorter arms and legs and most importantly: smaller breast… I will be happy to know so that I can really ‘adapt’. :o

    Cheers

  13. Hey girls,

before coming to Bangkok I thought of this city as shopper's paradise. Having moved here now, I am happy about every t-shirt, skirts etc. I have brought with me from Europe...

Where do you girls buy clothes???? I am tired of asking for 'big size', trying all the XLs and LLs and still nothing fits me. Back home I am in the middle range, usually buying a 40 or 42.

I have found a skirt and a t-shirt here, but both were imported and quite expensive. I don't want to pay 2000 Baht+ for every ordinary t-shirt I buy. Is there any place where a 'normal' western woman can go for non-expensive, nice things? Or is that an oximoron??
