The less sex tourists that come to Thailand has to better for the rest of us.Better for who ?
Not the girls who service them or the establishments that provide them with a bed , food and drink.
Better for Thailand's image , well given that 90% of the sex trade is driven by domestic consumption , well not that either.
If Pattaya , Nana , Soi Cowboy , Patpong , Bangla Rd all ceased to exist , there would still be thousands of massage parlours , Karaoke bars etc offering sexual services.
If you dont like the concept , why choose to live in Thailand , prostitution has been part of the culture for centuries.
Exactly right! I think some people don't realise how many Thai's visit the massage parlours and use prostitutes. I have been to rural areas in Thailand that have whore houses that cater only for Thai men and these are big, well run establishments that do very well from the locals alone! The term "sex tourist" really has no meaning in Thailand.- 3

It must have been a while buddy, because that's clearly photos of the arrivals area.

Was quite surprised to hear today the World Health Organisation (of which i rarely pay any attention) saying we are very nearly the turning point of controlling the spread of this virus. 77, 000 cases and 2200 dead already....... reckon it's not just LOS that's gonna suffer from a lack of tourism... we're all, regardless of location could suffer from this....
Comments welcome!

What was that Nazi slogan from WW2 , keep telling the same lies for a while and people will believe you.
Or keep telling the same lies and you'll start believing them yourself.

Yesterday, the international media reported huge crowds at Thanathorn' rally....whilst much smaller groups had gathered for Prayuth....the Thai media has obviously been instructed how to report
Indeed, Don't pay too much attention to BBC news but they got the numbers estimated at 10,000 for the "run against dictatorship" and around 3000 for walk in support of Prayuth.

I was offered a bag again this morning. The person in front also got their coffees in those plastic bags for cups. I can't see any real change so far.
Same here, 7/11 staff still itching to give plastic bags to me.... i literally have to thrust my own bag into their face for them to use it! Then they laugh at me as if to say ting tong falang...... meanwhile a queue of locals behind me none of which have even bothered to bring a bag...... I am currently in Pattaya though! Says it all really.

i agree with dannyboy666. the tell tell signs are usually quite evident. what is scary though that even when the parents do take action, the authorities do not and the patient is simply sent home again! next thing you know....its a case of shouda, woulda, coulda

the nail in the coffin for the foolish brit was mouthing off to the group of Thai men whilst walking off..... not the best 'face saving' exercise.

two occasions in Thailand that i have not mind my own business.... firstly an incredibly racist farang in a little bar i was drinking in was abusing two black girls, the Thais didn't care but it was ruining my drinking experience and causing a bad vibe. I approached him and told him politely to go forth.... surprisingly he got up and left. I was left to pay his 160 baht bill which was a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Secondly, helped a drunk farang who was violently sick over a bar and pool table in Samui.... suffice to say the mamasan was not best pleased. Whilst the girls cleaned bar i helped him pay his bar tab and flagged him a taxi (car because there's no way he was gonna stay on the back of a bike).
The rest of the time i have turned a blind eye!
So it really does depend on the moment and situation. Always pays to think it through though or you might get caught will someones bill, angry husband/wife, mafia, police, bangkok hilton or a good beating.

Not sure why there's a photo of a falang with that cop..... the cop in the original article only extends the 100,000THB reward to "citizens" so unfortunately no cash handout for Mr foreigner!

. there are some serious mouth merchants from the UK in pattaya...
Cant see where it states the man is from UK but nice try ;-)
I was in the very same situation as this and the Mamasan was quite understanding....she flagged a taxi driver over and explained to him that i'll be needing an ATM and lift back to the bar!

youtube wise "the buddha - the story of siddhartha" is a great PBS documentary with some lovely animation and rituals. http://youtu.be/lcEzXe3gZT4 well worth the watch. Also the discovering buddhism modules are worth a look http://youtu.be/KOEXkaow0ko
website wise you'll find a lot of introduction on Triratna Buddhism here
"The Triratna Buddhist Order and Community is a worldwide movement of women and men living by the Buddha’s teachings in the conditions of the modern world. Neither monastic nor lay, we are simply Buddhists, at varying stages of commitment and understanding."

10. over emphasis on teaching grammar when it is not needed..
I really agree. Can you imagine what a shot in the arm it would be for Thailand if the entire population spoke English to the level of a 7 year old native English speaker.
7 year olds don't learn any grammar. Heck even if all Thais were taught to understand only a couple of simple phrases, 1. "Where is the toilet?" and "Where is the bar?"
If anyone of importance in Thailand is reading this, "Get rid of all the grammar nonsense and speak English like a 7 year old."
Do i detect an American accent?
