Why not just obtain a "Celta " and teach "English" in your own country of origin?

With the "degree" and the "Celta" teaching "English" at home would bring more status, a better salary and the opportunity of career progression !

Is there any reason why this would not be a viable option ?

    Definitely.

I recently came across this site and they seem to have a good number of jobs available and I don't just mean Thailand, www.tefljobs.asia

worth a look for any teachers I would say.

  2. Set up an offshore company in the UK or USA. Receiving your benefits (and paying your taxes) from there is the easiest way to have an income. While working for your company abroad you don't need a working permit for Thailand as long as you don't serve Thai customers.

I wouldn't be so sure of that as technically you are still working in Thailand!

It only takes one disgruntled neighbour or farang to report you and your in trouble.

Think about it if your sent to Thailand from the U.K by your company for work, then the company must supply you with all the documentation to get the correct business visa

company protocols in place ensure this happens.

  3. I'd put my passport "through the washing machine" if I were you just to be safe.

There's been a marked increase in anecdotes about arbitrary and puzzling denials of entry by Thai immigration to people with PROPER VISAS that are causing considerable confusion.

It sounds like you have quite an assortment of visas and stamps in your current passport so it might be best to get yourself a new one so you at least don't attract attention at the immigration desk. What you want is quick, cursory glances by immigration; not flicking back and forth through your passport looking for something to trip you up.

I'm not for one second suggesting that you are or have been working illegally in Thailand but all these immigration people need is SUSPICION and you can be bounced out of the country like a criminal.

    Really!!!

This comment worries me, I am picking up a 3 Entry tourist visa from UK consulate on Wed, got 2 x non o 1yr visa's + 2 entry Tourist Visa from laos and several border run stamps all since passport issue in march 2011.

I have only been out of thailand 6 months since issue.

So I am likely to be refused entry???!! been back in UK 17 days leaving for Thailand end of this week, so no time to get new passport

Get down to London and get a fast track passport, pay extra then apply for your new 3 moth visa, Its worth investing in the new passport isnt it to get it?

  4. Foreigner can't legally buy and own a house in Thailand.

    Only option her name.

Disadvantage, she dumps you and keeps the house, which happens to a surprising number of foreigners with long term relationships the moment they move back to Thailand.

If she already owns a house in Thailand, why not live there?

Or other option buy one in a company owned name, then just put your name on it which is what I have done.
