  1. Gold and Silver are great investments if you hold them physically. If you're  like so many fools that hold paper Gold well if the paper is soft you can use as toilet paper when it becomes worthless. That day is coming. Ask yourself one question why is it that almost every country in the world is buying or repatriating there gold holdings. Because they smell something bad coming their way.

Best place  that is closest to Thailand is Singapore. Not only can you buy it but store it as well. Find a storage facility that allows direct access to your metals. At anytime! This is very important.  There are not a lot around but they are the best. Hong Kong would be another place to buy and store. Note if you buy in Singapore you need to be aware of certain rules about bringing  gold and silver into Singapore. Singapore  will allow all metals in but only pure metal will avoid the tax. So if you own say US Gold eagles you'll be taxed on them because they have a blend of silver and copper added for strength.  On the other hand if you bring in Gold Maple leaves the purest Gold in the world no tax, no blended metals.  And generally speaking there cheaper the US Eagles not by much but less is less.

  2. What makes a whiskey bourbon?
The law. While knocking back a dram of bourbon is a decidedly carefree exercise, making it is exceedingly technical and requires that the whiskey meet a rigid set of criteria. The Federal Standards of Identity for Bourbon stipulate what is and what isn't bourbon. For a whiskey to call itself bourbon, its mash, the mixture of grains from which the product is distilled, must contain at least 51% corn. (The rest of the mash is usually filled out with malted barley and either rye or wheat.) The mash must be distilled at 160 proof or less, put into the barrel at 125 proof or less, and it must not contain any additives. The distillate must be aged in a new charred oak barrel. (Most often these barrels are white oak, but they can be any variety of oak.) If you distill a whiskey in your kitchen that meets all of these standards, congrats, you've made bourbon. Also, you've broken the law; the ATF is probably outside your house right now.

Things get a bit more complicated than that, though. If you want to call your bourbon "straight bourbon," you have to age it for at least two years in the barrel. If you age it for less than four years, you have to put an age statement somewhere on the bottle telling folks just how long you aged it. Thus, when you pick up a bottle of straight bourbon that doesn't explicitly say how old it is (think Jim Beam white label), you're probably getting sauce that's at least four years old, but probably not much older.

Bourbon can only be made in Kentucky, right?
Nope, but it's a common misconception. "Kentucky straight bourbon" can only be made in the Bluegrass State, but a handful of other bourbon distilleries are sprinkled around the country. Among them, Tuthilltown Spirits in New York makes its own Hudson Baby Bourbon, which is aged for just three months, and A. Smith Bowman Distillery of Virginia makes, among other products, a yummy 90-proof small batch bourbon under its Virginia Gentleman label. As long as it meets the base criteria to be bourbon, it's bourbon, no matter where it's produced.

If you want real Bourbon Travel to Singapore and pick up a bottle at the airport. I recommend "Woodford Reserve." A liter should set you back about 60.$ US.   Its made in the gentle rolling hills of Woodford county Kentucky about 20 miles from where I'm living now.

  3. Those of you freaking out over Armour piercing bullets will really freak out when I say that Americans should be able to own Tanks, Mortars, Machine guns like the Browning 50. BMG, rocket launchers cruise missiles.

And why, because I need to defend myself not against a burglar but the Tierney of my Government. You only need to read a few papers to see the all the Alphabet agencies are mad. They spy on us they trample the Constitution on a regular basis. The founders made the 2nd amendment not for protection against Criminal and not for hunting but for the people to protect themselves from a over reaching Government.

  4. About a year ago I tried to get accident insurance. You know hurt in a bike wreck need care. Did not want huge policy just something extra in case of broken leg or something similar. Went to local English agent met with office staff filled out paper work; at the bottom it asked about high blood pressure, Diabetes, Heart conditions ect.  I marked the Diabetes box. Huge mistake being truthful I was told by office staff very bad.

The company refused me. I only wanted a 500,000.00 baht Coverage yet they said no.

This is the problem with insurance, if  your truthful you get screwed.

As  for home country insurance can't afford it my last quote for a policy was 15,000.00US$ a month. $180,000.00 US a year. So for those of you that comment on not being able to come in with out insurance I say ...... I won't say it. But I believe you get the meaning.

  5. This is so simple to fix; if you are a Farang and live permanently in one place start spending the night out in different places and be sure to report these different places.

If a thousand of you spend 3 nights out a month, that's 9000 new pieces of paper generated. If ten thousand of you do this 3 times a month that's an additional 90,000 pieces of paper. My bet, is that in less than a month Farangs that believe this is ridiculous  could bring the entire system crashing down. Hell every time you leave the house and go to the grocery or to a restaurant report a change of location.

  6. Sorry I won't be there to watch I love the lantern festival. It's beautiful, peaceful, something I'll never forget  no matter where I'm living.   So naturally the powers that be want to end it based on nonsense that jet engines might  be damaged.

The festival Songkran on the other hand  harms 1000's each year; motorcyclists are bombarded with high powered water cannons and even ice cubes causing a wide variety of accidents; some serious. Yet no one talks of banning it. The event  it is allowed to proceed unabated.

    Go figure!

  7. "Oh,My Gun violence in Thailand!" There is only two pages of comments. The other day when trying to tell "Americans" how to live there were 16 pages of comments. Most people trying to undue our Constitution.

    "Why no outrage here?"

"I can't hear the condemnation of the slaughter of Thais with a shotgun!"

But then I also believe that the condemnation of American firearm laws as it relates to civilian deaths is hollow gibberish. I say this because I never read on here members complaining about the whole sale slaughter of civilians in Syria, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, France, Ukraine, Mexico, Venezuela, and soon to be Barcelona!

  8. @ boomerangutang, I did not reference Spanish history I referenced all of history.

Machine guns are virtully impossible to obtain in the US. The process is long and expensive. The weapons used were semi auto and modified "illegally" if that word means anything to you, to simulate auto fire.

I've heard the recordings taken the night of the shooting; it was automatic weapons fire.

The kill wounded ratio is to high for a  single shooter 58 dead 500 wounded in the short time frame.

A picture released of the shooters room does not match the story they are telling.

And after today's release of the JFK files I'll never believe anything  that comes out of the mouths of anyone acting or representing  the US Governments views on anything!

  9. I wonder if Catalonia's had the right to bear arms would so many of them been beaten by the armed police? Catalonia's right now are  facing an armed Spanish force  hell bent to keep them from leaving. If they had firearm ownership I'm pretty sure the Spanish Government would be acting differently.

Those people who advocate for firearm restrictions  seem to have no knowledge of history.

  10. At least the water has some place to go; try New Orleans. 20 pumps running everyday and these are not little pumps either, just to keep the city  dry!  And when a tropical depression presents itself everyone goes crazy.

Thailand is not the only place that has serious water problems! And then there is Houston............

  11. Cleaning the beach daily would help. There are several beach cleaning machines available perhaps Jomtien and Pattaya would like to buy a couple. As for the water this becomes a much bigger problem. Pattaya sewage treatment plant needs to be updated to handle the increase in sewage.  I read some where it can only process 60 million gallons but takes in 80 million. The government needs to improve the sanitation treatment plant for Pattaya, which in turn will bring in the tourists which they seem to want.

Where do they get the money well how about not buying a Submarine!

  12. Hey Orton,

I live in the US. When in Thailand I was pulled of by  the "BIB" many times not once was I afraid of being killed. Here in the US if pulled over by the police you run a 60/40 percent chance of being killed. If not killed then raped and locked up for nothing. The US is a Police State. You should come and see what our Police look like; ever see a Navy Seal or a Delta force member the Local police look just like they do; all black carrying MP9 sub-machine guns Rifles with silencers and night vision. The police no longer look like police. I'll take Thailand any day over the hell hole I've had to return too.

  13. When I left Thailand nearly 2 years ago my heart cried. Every morning I wake hoping that it was all a bad dream, and that I will  awake in the small village I was living in. However that has not been the case. One day I hope to return and never have to leave again. Like Donald Battles I have no problem leaving all my friends and family behind. And Donald is right planes travel both ways but it seems most Americans find traveling to Thailand even for a visit to much trouble.  This is their loss!

  14. Do you have a stereo, try Metallica, or Nine inch nails. The CIA likes Metallica they use it in interrogation technique. Of course you may make other neighbors upset. Other techniques could be smell drop some raw shrimp in there shop of course moving is your best option, make sure when you sign a new lease you add a line about noise and a refund of deposit if said noise arrives after you move in.
