  1. 5 years ago, the first page of m passport fell off and the lady at the boarding gate taped it back into it. When I arrived in Bali, I was questioned almost 1hr about my passport and what happened to it. They thought I replaced the first page but I told them I did not, it just fell off because of the bad quality of it -and the way it is handled by immigration, check in / boarding staff... I asked them to compare the passport number on the first page with the number on each page. They did not care, they wanted to send me back to HKG as my passport looks suspicious. I convinced them finally to let me into the country since I was invited to a wedding but advised me to get a new passport ASAP.

I will not "repair" anything anymore but will get a new passport immediately once a page is significantly damaged/almost comes off -which I did last year before flying to the US.

Being treated like a potential drug dealer or terrorist is something to avoid, especially nowadays...

  2. Getting a statement is not a problem. Getting the amount of the statement equal (to the satang) to the one in yr bank book on the same day is...

Another new requirement (we did not have to do so far) I was told today:

from now on my wife needs to fill out the form and reporting my stay in our (her on the paper) house within 24hrs. I asked if I travel 40 times per year abroad she needs to fill out the form 40 times and present to immigration?

    Answer: yes!

Question: that means she would need to come to immigration 40times just to hand in the form????

    Answer: yes!

Question: Can she do it online or send by post at least???

Answer: (after checking with supervisor) yes, she can. Just scan the filled in form and send by email.

    Answer: Ok, thank you....

Just wondering whether actually anybody really cares whether I was "reported back" or not....

  3. Yes, they wanted the statement too and wanted the amount of statement exactly matching the bank books' one regardless I had over 400k for over 2 months-.

And since it was technically not possible to have a money movement one one day and the same amount shown in the bank book and the bank statement we had to withdraw and deposit the same amount so that both, statement and bank book are matching...

But I am still interested whether other people faced the same problem and how they solved it....

  4. Here is the thing:

my immigration office (in the south) wanted an updated bank book of the same day (no problem, just deposit or withdraw 100thb) PLUS a bank statement signed by the bank of the same day with exactly the same amount as in the bank book.

The problem: the bank statement system can only show the number of the previous day not the actual day...Useless to try to explain that to immigration that whether the number in the statement and bank book should be irrelevant as long as both show sufficient funds over the required period of time...

What we did is, we withdrew and deposited 100thb on the same day so that the bank statement of the previous day show the same number as in the bank book.

Just curious, how others manage -or is there a bank in Thailand which can actually provide an updated statement of the same day and not previous day)?

  5. Ok. Can I apply for the non - O in BKK immediately after I have arrived from abroad (or only within the last 15days of my visa exempt)? 2 trips are needed, within how many days approx between application and approval? If I get the stamp on January 15th 2016 for the non O, would January 15th then the date up to which I need to apply for extension of stay OR would it be the 15th of March (after 60 days) OR 15th of April (90 days)?

  6. Sorry to jump in. Do I understand correctly that by entering Thailand under the 30 days visa exempt rule, I can apply for a non o visa in Thailand without leaving the country? I do NOT need to get a non o based on marriage abroad first before I can apply for an extension of stay n Thailand? At least 15 days left or not more than 15days left on my visa exempt before applying for the non o?

  7. Ok, understand. In case I don't get my extension before I travel abroad, what would be the most convenient procedure for me? Entering on January 3rd by the 30days tourist visits allowance and fly abroad by End of January to apply for a new non o im?

I would do it in Singapore to combine it to visit friends. Would 2 working days be enough? Do they have any specific requirements in SIN? Does my wife needs to come as well?

Would it affect the work permit?

  8. Thanks Paradise Lost & Evilbaz for your quick response!

Regarding the 60 days extension, do I really NOT need to bring any documents / really no proof of finances etc.? Under which circumstances can they refuse to give me those 60 days extension? What is the fee for it?

When do I need to do it latest? Before the present extension of stay expires (25.11.) or is it enough to wait first whether I get the 1 year extension and do the 60 days extension only 2-3 days before my departure in case they do not have any result yet on my 1 year extension?

Can I still do the 60 days extension, even though I applied already for the 1 year extension of stay OR do I need to withdraw the applicatio for the 1 year extension first?

When I am back, can I apply for the 12months extension of stay in Thailand or do I need to fly abroad first to get a new Non-Im? In other words, is my Non-Im still valid after the 60 days extension to apply afterwards for my 12months extension?

Surely, I will bring my wife...

    Cheers

  9. My Non-Im Extension of Stay (based on marriage) always expires on Nov 25th and every year, the immigration office writes into my passport - after having submitted all the documents, photos etc: ...must contact office again in person on Dec 25th, REGARDLESS whether I apply 30days before the expiry (eg. 26.10.) OR 23.11.

In 2014, it was not a problem as I stayed for X-Mas in Thailand.

In 2013, they called me by middle of December that I can come over to get my new extension so I could fly out for X-Mas

For this year, knowing that I want to fly out for X-Max by 20.12., I applied by November 4th already, thinking the earlier I apply, the earlier I can get my extension. When I mentioned to the immigration officer, I will not be there on 25.12., he mentioned, I must be here and should postpone my trip otherwise my Non - Imm becomes invalid and I need to go abroad to apply for a new one. According to him, this year, the queue is very long, I cannot expect to get the extension before the 25.12.

Yes, sure, postponing X-Mas...I was so angry telling him that in order to make sure that I can get the extension earlier than the 25th, I already came beginning of Nov and for sure, I will not miss X-Mas in my home country only to wait for my extension of stay approval to arrive! I have better things to do in my life than planing my life around the goodwill of immigration officers...

Being angry, I forgot to ask -and that's what I like to do here instead but will also ask him before leaving for my trip:

    - Isn't it possible to contact in person the immigration office after I am back (January 3rd) instead of Dec 25th -since the queue is so long, it would give them extra time to review my case- ? In the meantime, they could extend from Dec 25th to January 3rd and I will apply for a single re-entry permit (that's what immigration does anyway in case I have to leave Thailand after my extension expires -Nov 25- and come back before I need to contact immigration in person for my renewal of extension of stay on Dec 25th)?

    - What's the point of applying early for the extension, if they always write anyway 1 month after the expiry of extension of stay (=25.Nov) to come back (=25.Dec)? Does it mean, the immigration office will follow up another case earlier than mine, if extension of stay of that case is e.g. 15. Nov and that case was submitted on 14. Nov? Probabaly they would write come back date Dec 15th in the passport?!?

    - How would the expiry of the Non -Imm affect the work permit?

Any suggestions, what I could do -in case they do not have my extension before I fly out?

If not, then I will fly in on a tourist "visa" and will fly to a neigbhbouring country to apply for a new Non Imm even though it's a waste of time and money...

I can only recommend anybody, NOT to have an extension of stay date in November / December in case you are planing from time to time spending X-Mas abroad. Saves you a lot of trouble...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Cheers

  10. Is it possible for a Thai Citizen to deduct interest rates of a loan taken from a foreigner living abroad from his income tax in Thailand -assuming the Thai Citizen is running a business and making a living from it (claim the paid interest as expenses)? If so, which documents / evidence are needed to claim deduction of taxes?

Would it make a difference if the loaner is a foreigner living in Thailand?

    Tks in advance!

  11. What the lawyers / accountants tell you is not true. You can get a work permit without a B-Visa or other visas if you are married to a Thai. That's what Ubon Joe told me before and turned out to be 100% correct.

I am married to a Thai, holding an extension of stay permit due to marriage and a work permit which allows me to work in our ltd. employing 2 Thais.

To keep things simple, I would suggest you not to connect your work permit and the prof of income for your extension of stay.

Deal with immigration to get yr extension of stay due to marriage by keeping 400k on yr bank account for 2 months (plus the processing time until the extension is approved).

Deal with the labour department for yr work permit. If you have an extension of stay due to marriage then you only need to deal with the other requirements they ask from you for being employed at yr / yr wife's business.

I made the experience if you want to get a WP and are on an other visa than the extension of stay due to marriage, then the immigration wants to set the rules not only in regards of yr visa but also advices the labour department under which circumstances only they are allowed to issue you a WP (eg for labor department, 2 employed Thais is ok, immigration requested 5 even I am

    married to a Thai).

You don't need a lawyer / accountant for that.

Get the extension of stay due to marriage from immigration first. Then ask yr wife to go to the labour department and collect their requirements and then follow up accordingly (without involving immigration).

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers

  13. My applicaiton for the 2nd extension of stay due to marriage is coming closer and we will ask the local immigration, which documents THEY reuqire.

However, beforehand it would be great to know until which date the 400,000 THB which I put on my Thai account for 2 months needs to be sit there until I can invest it in something else.

    Some more info:

Extension of Stay permitted until 25. Nov. 2014

Deposited 400,000 THB on my account on 23. Aug. 2014

Plan to apply for extension of stay on 27. Oct. 2014

    Qustions as following:

    1) Once the immigration accepted all the documents and confirmed, no documents are missing for the application -let's assume 29. Oct as I am sure on 27. Oct. they will come up with something they have not told us before- can I withdraw the 400,000 THB from my account OR do I need to keep it there until I receive the confirmation of extension / stamp in my passoport for extension of stay?

    2) I plan to fly abroad on 3. November 2014. I am still holding a multiple re-entry permit, which I assume is valid until my present extension of stay, which means 25. Nov. 2014. OR does it become invalid if I apply on 29. Oct for the next extension of stay (in that case, I would only apply for my 2. extension after I come back to Thailand)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Cheers
