  1. Yes, I just started lass than 2 weeks ago, currently on tourist visa, and don't want to work illegally. But the school made no mention of work permit/visa when I signed up, so i thought id do more investigating on my own. Ill ask the schools owner about theor status with the MOE, and see what my options are from there.

You should know it is illegal to work on a tourist visa. First get your visa and work permit organised then start working.

I'm aware of that, but I also have yet to meet the person that had their visa sorted and work permit in hand before they started teaching. So there's also that. That is why I was asking about my options, I'm not comfortable working illegally.

  2. This is what happens when Israel makes and breaks treaties. You can only push a group speak far before they become violent.

Or perhaps blaming Israel for Palestinian terrorism is racist against Arabs?

Did it ever occur to anyone how much further the peace process would have been by now if the Palestinians only used NON-VIOLENT protest methods?

Part of the explanation lies in the profound influence that the anti-Zionist ideology (a system of demonising ideas and representations about Israel and the Jews) now exercises in our culture. At the heart of the ideology is a deeply buried, often unconscious, assumption about the dichotomous natures of Israelis and Palestinians that warps our understanding of the conflict. Here it is:Palestinians (and Arabs in general) do not have agency and choice, and so cannot be held accountable and responsible. Israelis do and can; always, and exclusively.

Palestinians are understood as a driven people, dominated by circumstance and emotion, lacking choice, below the age of responsibility, never to be held accountable. Israelis are the opposite; masters of all circumstances, rational and calculating, the root cause of everything, responsible for everything.

It is, palpably, an Orientalist view of the Palestinians as the Other, except this time they are affirmed as noble savages. Its a bit racist, to be honest. For example, the Liberal Democrat David Ward MP tweetedthat the Palestinian synagogue terrorists had been "driven to madness" - which not only removes agency from them but also sanity.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/palestinianauthority/11243168/Blaming-Israel-for-Palestinian-violence-is-racist-it-denies-that-Arabs-are-moral-agents.html

Look at a world map from 1947 to now. And then tell me who the invaders are. Israel has been slowly wiping palistine off the map, what should they do? Sit with their thumbs up their butts and take it? Or fight back? I know what I would do. Pick up a gun and fight off the invaders.

I believe it was the Jews that were thrown off their land over 2000 years ago by the arabs. Or at least the then Assyrians.

Well they have been hounded out many times, by the likes of the Romans and Babylonians. But mostly by the arabs.

So there goes your daft statement of endorsement to pick up a gun and fight to take it back, albeit many centuries later.

    Hahaha.

I'm glad you brought up them being displaced 2000 years ago. I have an analogy for you.

If I own a house, and I'm forced to leave it, someone else claims the house as theirs, can I go back 20 years later and say that is my house? probably not. That's how I see it. Sure, the Jewish people lived there 2000 years ago, but it wasn't until the end of ww2 when they were injected by force back into the region. And they were given weapons, money and tech by the us and it's allies to allow them to stay there. That was the catalyst for the de-stabilization of the region.

  3. Do high end shoppers from anywhere else feel "discriminated" against because signs aren't in their native language? Nope. They realize in America people speak English, and should expect everything to be in English. When I go to China, do I expect them to cater to my English speaking ways? Or if I go to saudi Arabia? No of course not. Why should America have to pander to them?

  4. Funny that they arrested 2 men who basically have done the same thing as plenty of women here. I guess it becomes a crime when it's a Thai getting scammed.

Not really ,at least the old fools that get scammed here get to roger a nice looking woman for their money , and if your stupid enough to believe that some gorgeous young prostitute has fallen in love with you after just meeting you then ,well you know .

and this does not mean that i have anything against bar girls many are very nice (i know i met quite a few before i got marriedsmile.png ) but i never kidded myself they loved me ,it was a bargain ,i had money they had lovely bodies .

As for these scum Nigerians ,they deserve all they get.

I fail to see the difference. The way I see it, someone said the right stuff, and conned someone else out of their cash. But it seems if it's a Thai woman who has a "sick mom" it's OK, but if it's a farang man with bank issues it's wrong. You don't see the elephant sized hypocrisy?

  5. This is all well and good, but really just getting these "little fish" will do nothing. Thailand seriously needs to step it's game up, and actually bust the leaders of these rings. Regardless of who they are and how much money they have. But until they dump the "saving face" mentality and "rich equals untouchable", this is just fodder.

"Thailand seriously needs to step it's game up, and actually bust the leaders of these rings."

Which is exactly what happened in this case if you bother to read the report properly.

Haha Oh yeah, I'm sure the main boss would hang out with his malcontents. These are classic small fish. these are the foot soldiers. All this is is an inconvenience to the guy or guys who actually make profit from this.

If you think the main guys were busted in this raid, you're much too naive.

  6. "I do not like lying so I left that school."

Is it lying or perhaps your grading rubric wasn't well thought out. I would say that 90% of teachers without backgrounds in education don't really do proper assessments or evaluations. It really isn't something that you pick up on the job nor something they teach in TEFL courses.

So let me guess, you're in that magical 10%? Talk about a pretentious answer. While at the same time being of no help at all. Congratulations, you fail on 2 fronts.

Back in topic, at the school I taught at, I was told 70% of my marks were to come from speaking/listening/reading/writing, how ever I saw fit. Since I taught conversation, I went 25% speaking and listening, 10% reading and writing. And the 30% left was from exams that I gave in class during the year.

  7. helping non Thaischeesy.gifcheesy.gif

Did your studies abroad tell you what happens when a country loses 10% of GDP

Its economy contracts. Which will not be a problem if we also don't have to pay for all the non-thai fake tourists using up public resources.

Look at the German man with the swollen leg. Just 1 example.

Since the economy will contract with very high unemployment you wont need all the farang based technology, like cars, computers, iphones, air travel, medicines, medical equipment, all types of production machines, tractors, televisions, motorbikes, etc. because you wont be able to afford them, never mind, i'm sure you will be able to produce your own ya ba and not have to import it from Burma. The world wont care anymore about corruption, cheating, murders and rapes because you will be doing it to yourselves.

Farang Based technology, that is funny. Where is it all made? In Asia, so I think we will survive.

Well, when those companies pull out of Thailand because they can't find anyone for management positions, then who would be laughing? Stuff might be made here in Thailand, but I don't see too many Thai CEOs running fortune 500 companies.

Seriously, just stop. You're just making yourself look more silly with every post.

  8. I think this is a good idea.

Not every country can afford the security and luxury of other places.

Tourist come to Koh Tao becuase its cheap.

If foreigners want more security they should pay for something rather then complain something is not good all the time.

    Koh Tao cheap?

    Have you been there?

Not every country can afford...., I'm sorry, I have to be blunt and a bit rude, did you turn on your brain before commenting?

With Thailands GDP 10% revenue from tourism, don't you think some of it should cover safety and protection whilst them visiting tourist areas?

If Thai wants more security, they stay home and don't even talk to their neighbours.

The complaints started with two young getting murdered and raped, should they have payed not to get murdered?

The height of stupidity amongst Thais are increasing by the hour it seems.

Yes I have been there its a beautiful place to go.

Its cheap in relation to other western countries.

I have studied abroad and I pay more for everything in western countries in comparison to Thailand. So in paying more I also pay more for services. Including public safety. But even in a lot of your home countries very bad murders and rapes happen all the time.

I am Thai and to be honest I don't care for the type of tourist that comes to Thailand. Sorry but I am being blunt and rude also. The 10% you say in GDP we can do without more then the tourists can do without Thailand.

You say Thailand can live without the money tourism brings in? Well, with the current powers that might become a reality. It seems they are doing their best to drive away tourists and foreigners in general. Then Thai people can rip each other off!

  9. Hilarious little exchange we had here;

    1) jonesthebaker makes a strange comment comparing paying in thailand to paying at disneyland

    2) soutpeel responds in typical soutpeel fashion with a clever, harmless quip

    3) jonesthebaker is instantly confused and starts barking that soutpeel doesn't understand irony when it is actually clear he doesnt understand it"

    4) soutpeel get annoyed and remarks that he must be an english teacher from the states

    5) jonesthebaker gets upset and responds that soutpeel must be american and that he hates americans

Long story short; two posters spar and accuse each other of being Americans before realizing they are both from the UK and share a common distaste for Americans. Classic Thaivisa.

Meanwhile, the American reading is laughing is @$$ off.
