When is 'soon'? I went to Koh Mook for three nights and then got a private longtail across to Kradan for another three nights. This was May 2014. Fantastic two places. Very quiet but we really enjoyed it and kayaked ourselves to the Emerald cave on Mook from Charlie's beach. Well recommended.

Tezza's blog is essential reading. That's what inspired me to go.

Booking.com rates are a bit better with no fees, they also show an all in rate as opposed to Agoda which is ++. they also dont need payment until you stay.

I have never been able to get a better rate at a hotel as a walk in, sometimes they want double, but sometimes the OTA's only get access to rooms in remote wings etc, I guess thats why sometimes its a lot less, the hotels load the rooms on the sites so the OTA's dont get any say in the rooms available or the rates.

What do you reckon is best? I am looking at the Sivalai for next week and wondering if it's better to turn up and see if I can get a better rate or book now via Agoda say for three nights. If I book in advance do you think there will be someone at the pier from the hotel to get me there - although it does not seem that far.

Go a day earlier and don't stress, or take a Bus.

OK. Shame as all the 'timings' seemed to be fitting into place. Last time I used the Lomprayah but it seemed a day wasted on the coach northbound.

I am thinking of getting the train from Chumpon (21:22) on a Saturday night in May to arrive Bangkok at 0630. I fly from BKK at 0955 on the Sunday morning back to Europe. Traffic should be very light across Bangkok in the morning but the one thing I am concerned is how punctual are the trains? I could get the earlier train I suppose but I would prefer 1st class and the 19:36 does not have it. Does the 0630 arrival happen or is it very elastic?
