  1. Why is the government passing these requirements onto insurance companies in other countries? A lot of the problems are caused by this government demanding these 2 policies here and instead of making it easier they are making it very hard for Westerners to stay in Thailand. It will cost my friend who is over 75-years old (according to him) almost Baht 350,000 a year to be covered by the $100,000. Corona policy and the 400k/40k in/out health policy. Thailand is not offering any solution, but are trying to push it on to other countries. If there was only one policy either the $100,000 or the 400k/40k policy then it would be manageable, but not two.

  2. Hi Peter Denis.

If applicable, could you PM me the same information as you sent to Jingo01? I have a yearly "O" visa based on retirement extension and 800K in a bank account to qualify for the yearly extension. I am 73 years old, and would like to continue with self-insuring or understand my options regarding the 400K/40K insurance policy the Thai government is trying to push on foreigners here. I don't mind a big deductible as I would have no plans to use the Thai policy, but only to show it to the IO when applying for my yearly "O" retirement extension.

  3. I have seen foreign people waiting in ambulances or taxis at CW immigration. They were waiting for the IO to do their paperwork for them. There needs to be an improvement in this system that would allow the elderly to be handled in a more caring way. This is the reason for me to think about leaving Thailand. Thai immigration is too harsh on the elderly foreigners and I don't want to go through a yearly harsh experience when I am not so mobile or have health issues.

  4. Hi ubonjoe.

I will be applying (done several times) for the one-year extension of stay based on retirement, with 800K in the bank, no need to travel outside of Thailand, only do the 90 day TM47. I need the English rules so that I can show the IO I am within the banking rules.  I tried to retrieve from the Thai Immigration site, but it keeps jumping back to Thai script whenever I press the English button.

  5. My wife and I went through the same situation at Changwattana last year. The IO said our marriage certificate was too old (10 years) and wouldn't renew my wife as a dependent  on my visa. After much pleading she finally relented and gave my wife the dependent visa for only that year.

The IO said the MC (marriage certificate) should be renewed on a yearly bases from where it was issued...meaning my wife would have to return to her home country every year to get a  new MC. Instead of traveling back to her home country every year we did the Bt 800K for her,  same as mine (total Bt1.6million) so, it has worked out for us, but what a hassle.

  6. I earn income from Thai dividends (NVDR) stocks. I pay withholding taxes of 10 percent on all shares through my Thai Tax ID number that shows the 10 percent is always pre-deducted. I receive a dividend letter from Thailand Securities Depository Company (TSD) that shows all of the stated financial (10 percent) deductions, taxes and payment from each Thai stock company. Can I use this Thai dividend money to fund the Bt800K now required by Thai Immigration for my Thai Retirement Extension?

  7. Reading this forum and watching the videos, my family and I have decided to cancel our trip to Chiang Mai in March. Such a shame because we love it there and would like to buy an apartment there as well, but in all honesty our health is more important. Whenever the conditions change then maybe we will give it another try. I feel sorry for the retired people who are living there and have to suffer through the smoke year after year, but we don't want to become part of the suffering. Thanks for this forum and we wish you all good health.

  8. To Rob 13

Thanks Rob 13. I will go to the old building next to the Chinese Embassy early tomorrow morning and see if I can pick up the application forms for the Chinese visa. It seems that my neighbour has given me wrong information or most likely I misunderstood what he was saying in Thai and as usual I got it wrong...LOL.
