  1. Giving what I think is the answer to what you're really asking - BTS to Ekkamai station, express bus is around B160, around two hours. Don't listen to anyone telling you to get on the one just leaving, probably the local takes well over three.

Playing it straight - walking, try hitching.

Next most expensive would be song thaews and local buses all the way.

But perhaps that's taking it too literal.

Would walking be more expensive, do you think? Would it take more than 160 baht worth of food to generate enough calories to walk it?

The walking distance is 97 miles. On the basis that walking one mile at an average pace of three miles per hour burns the average sized man 100 calories, a walk to Bangkok from Pattaya would burn nearly 10,000 calories.

See? Even the most inane posts and thread can be turned into little gems if we try hard enough.

  2. The simple point that I was making is that from what I saw they were ONLY targetting foreigners and taking their stuff, the flight both ways was 90% Thai people NONE of whom got stopped. Secondly this is pure theft, its not their stuff to take, I believe that the Thai security staff are either using or reselling this stuff hence their zeal.

I hope the rule is revoked especially for domestic flights.

I have since been told by a friend from the USA who is Bangkok based and travels all over Asia regularly on business that IF you are coming back to the same airport you can insist they bag and keep your stuff and you can then retrieve it on your way back in. He tells me he has done this a few times but the authorities hate doing it (as its extra work etc..) but if one insists strongly enough they apparently have to.

I read this and a little piece of me died inside.

    I feel sad.

  3. Interesting subject.

Has it ever been covered on Thaivisa before? I know that there have been 3529 threads looking for the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya, but I don't think we've ever seen the subject covered from this perspective before.

  4. Ok dad.

    whistling.gif

I know..................but to be fair it did give me a chance to tell soi41, Jingthing and Aneliane that they sometimes annoy me, I'm quite chuffed at that biggrin.png

And in such a positive way too. I thought that was quite classy.

Of course, you lost me when you said 'we're not always right'.

    I am.

I just realized how pointless this all thaivisa thing is.

You are right I should not take personal attacks personally

In fact, your reactions to what I write, has very little to do with what I write, or even what you think of me.

It has to do with how pissed off you still are about old stuffs and how much/long you think I should pay for it.

For months Bendix and Blether 's each comments has been negative towards me.

I asked you both to put me on their iggy list, which should make sense since you disagree/dislike/criticize everything I write.

It might have made you realized the limit of your logic/ or that you may have gone too far/or that I have paid enough for my supposed faults/mistakes or stuffs you considered as faults, or may be it is some type of rite of passage that i have passed (who knows/cares?) ...

but now all of the sudden, I am in a strange "state of grace" and everything I write is met with positive comments from you.

I could write the flipping phone book the all time, it wouldn't make any difference.

    Baffling. Truly bafflling.

Believe it or not, madamoiselle, but you barely register on my radar and i spend the square root of zip time thinking about you, your opinions or your posts.

As for your past mistakes, I have no idea what you mean.

This is an internet forum. Please, do yourself a favour. Get over yourself.

  5. Self evident heading. How else did rich people make their money ( other than by inheritance or the lottery ).

I liked the guy holding the sign at Wall St after the crash inviting the people that destroyed the lives of millions to "jump".

People can get rich either as an employee (by diligently following the orders of their employer, after studying hard to enter a lucrative profession), or as an entrepreneur (by offering goods and services that fulfill other people's wants and needs).

Somehow I doubt that the average employee will get rich, unless it's as a money manipulator. People doing real jobs don't get paid enough to be classified as "rich".

Not many entrepreneurs started with nothing.

BTW, my previous post was "tongue in cheek"!

Depends what you define as rich.

A person earning a good salary - and I don't mean a hedge fund manager or banker salary - but something like six figures sterling for 30 years can easily become relatively wealthy by living prudently and saving a healthy proportion of their income.

  7. on many occasions I have been called a lesbian here in a very derogatory manner

Strange thing to call a man!

The one thing that bores me so much about internet forums of all types is that by page 4 of a thread there is always an idiot turning differences of opinion into a personal vendetta and dragging the thread way off topic.

And you would never do that!

I had to vote 'Yes' because you two and a couple of others are the biggest bullies on the forum.

Seriously though Thommo . . . you too?

You think there are bullies on an anonymous webforum? I'm intrigued - genuinely - that you would think so.

And to repeat - I completely get aneliane's point that online bullying has caused suicides amongst teenagers, but that is ALWAYS when the victim knows the attackers and it is just an extension of real bullying done using an online medium.

But how can anyone seriously feel bullied on Thaivisa when most of us don't even know who the others are? We're dealing with words - some of the pointed and barbed, for sure - but they're just words expressed to anonymous entities, most of whom will never meet each other in real life.

    Im genuinely puzzled by this.

  8. Why is it always a scam at the airport, been flying in and out of Thailand for years and have never been asked for extra money, never robbed, or arrested. Probably a one off security check and if you go back today more than likely not there.

    Bingo.

Have flown in and out of Swampy perhaps a hundred times since it opened and never had a bad experience once. I simply can't tally my experience of the airport with those expressed so often here.

  9. on many occasions I have been called a lesbian here in a very derogatory manner

How is someone calling you a lesbian in a very derogatory manner, gay bashing?

When can I join the long list of people you ignore ?

How many times shall I ask you ?

Or please people ignored by Bendix, do tell me how you go there?

    You would make my day

    Thank you

I have noone on ignore, to my knowledge. Why would I? I enjoy watching people make fools of themselves, and join in with gay abandon.

But it's an intersting psychological standpoint: asking to be ignored. I'd hate to get to the roots of that.

Wouldn't it be more simple to ignore those who annoy you?

  10. The one thing that bores me so much about internet forums of all types is that by page 4 of a thread there is always an idiot turning differences of opinion into a personal vendetta and dragging the thread way off topic.

And so when I have spare time and find myself reading Thai visa.com and feel the urge to express my opinion I think twice because there will always some moron who might not agree with my point of view and instead of articulating an intelligent counter opinion will simply turn to the lowest common denominator of internet forums and attempt an insult.

That said - the colourful topics bring out the best and worst in people and provide excellent entertainment, they also out some grade A1 idiots, the odd dash of spectacular arrogance and bigotry.

Opinions are like an anus. Everyone has one, everyone else's stinks - but those who get hostile because they think someone else's post stinks only succeed in making themselves look like a toss-pot. Bring back the +1 and also the -1 I say !!...

Calm down old chap. There's no need to get hostile and insult the idiots.

    It's only the interwebby thing.
