Battery probably on the way out. Eventually won't charge at all. Has it been running hot for extended periods? That'll reduce its life.

It is normal for the restaurant to provide extra chopstick
It isn't normal at all. Usually one has to request some kind of community serving spoon and even then it doesn't guarantee people will use it, thus continuing to double-dip anyway.

It's an old saw of sociology that how people plan for the future depends on their level of income. Poor people struggle to live day by day and lack the resources to do effective planning for the future.
Are you including the Chinese in this wildly generalised theory?

Dunno if Thais can think outside the square but you could suggest she turn up to interview with freshly baked scones with jam and cream, or donuts or whatever... preferably something that wafts through to the back office. Might pique their interest?

Why didn’t she just pay for the item when accosted, tell the bloke yeah I was just bringing it to the counter in my bag, I’m intending to purchase it. Surely the whole thing could have been resolved as a misunderstanding, being a foreigner especially. She doesn’t sound like the full quid to me.

I went there in 2016. Soon as I heard those ruddy jet skis I was back on the boat outta there.

OP what do you do when you find out the guy sitting next to you on a plane paid less than you for his ticket. Same journey, same everything, like for like. No probs wth that? Ok cool. But what if the guy happens to be non white? Start another overcharged for being too white a different racism thread?

Sounds like white privilege has served you well up til now. Now you’re in Asia the boot’s on the other foot. No beg pardons in this part of the world mate.

Relax and don’t fret over it.
Even at 65c US it still goes a long way in Asia, you still get plenty of bang for your buck. If and when the ass drops out of it just adjust your living standard to suit.
Worry about what is now... not what might be.

I believe these applications are outsourced to a Thai agency in Bangkok. Not staffed or managed by Australians as one would expect. When we applied we got the same as you, 3 months. After the application was approved a Thai man from their office called my wife on the phone and said, "You come back! You come back! You don't stay long time! You get on plane!" LOL

I'm a maths teacher (ironic given this financial folly)
Maybe not ironic at all.. especially if you went into this thinking Maths teachers are somehow exempt from brain explosions...
Sorry to tell you but even Maths teachers have got to trust their instincts and gut feelings sometimes, just like the rest of us mere mortals. Maybe Maths teachers are particularly vulnerable in this regard.
Just curious, did you happen to inform the financial adviser that you were a Maths teacher? You might have been hoping, deep down, he couldn't possibly pull the wool over your eyes "coz I'm too smart for that".. <<<that could be the root of your downfall right there..

You really should look at yourself OP. Blaming students means you're not facing reality....that in all likelihood you probably suck as a teacher.

It's an Asian thing.
It's the same in india, China,Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam, etc
In Asia traditionally, the son is the one keeping the family house. When he gets married his wife will come and live in the family.
Usually the wife will look after the aging mother and the rest of the family and basically serves as a glorified maid..Not a farang woman enviable position
While girls could be sinsot to any highest bidder, the boys are responsible for passing on family genes and names so farang blood is not welcomed.
