  1. Also, while far from ideal, Thailand has much newer and cleaner running cars and trucks than you see in India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and most all other developing nations of the world.

Don't doubt that, although it's farcical that tuk-tuks and songthaews haven't been made to clean up their act! The majority constantly spew out crap in public areas... tuk-tuks being the worst offenders. One of them going down the street in front of you must be equivalent to several hundred smokers blowing gunk in your mush.

Couldn't agree more! While it's great that they're trying to reform smoking policies, let's get the act together on exhaust regulation. The emissions that tuk tuks and song taos give out are repulsive, especially when sat on a motorbike behine them in traffic. :bah:

  2. The kebabs on the Rasta Soi are good but nothing like a real gyro. I hear ya, I've been saying for years that CM needs a gyro place. One of my most missed foods.

  3. > At the moment Tuskers cannot guarantee English commentary. We have a number of possible solutions involving listening to

    > simultaneous radio commentary but there are technical problems with synchronising with the action on the screen.

Yes, big problems. A possible solution (in theory, I never tried it) would be to feed teh signal to a digital recorder first (any PC running the right software) and telling it to delay by enough seconds. This is assuming the audio feed is slower, if the other way around then you'd need to delay the audio feed. It's all pretty tricky.

However I have been in contact with True and they are going to broadcast game noise with no commentary on the second audio channel (well at least they say the are :) ) which is what I will be showing if the English commentary does not work out.

Ok, this is before coffee but may be the best idea I've had this month: Get someone who's reasonably qualified to do 'live' commentary. (Obviously only people who aren't really annoying). I think a 'team' works, well, possibly with one person supporting (within reason) the one team, and then the other commentator the other. This could either be excellent, or empty your bar in 5 minutes. :D

    WTK

I think that's a brilliant idea Winnie. Providing there's qualified people around, that could be heaps of fun, especially after everyone's had a few rounds. Make things a bit more interesting. Whatchya think Chaz?

  4. Back to square one. Puppet master Thaksin is calling the shots now. Openly and clearly. Cat is out of the bag, reds. This is ALL about Thaksin.

Strangely enough, Thaksin seems to be the sole voice of common sense !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is the only one saying that the fighting should stop and lets get back to the negotiation table.

Abhisit is just as bad as the bloodthirsty westerners on this forum who are openly supporting and salivating over a violent crackdown.

I once thought Abhisit was a decent human being but I cant believe he has made such stupid decisions, this guy will go down in history

as one of the most idiodic thai PMs ever.

Actions speak louder than words and anyone with an ounce of sense knows Thaksin speaks untruths.

Thaksin is a convicted thief and has been shown over and over again to be dishonest.

He is also lower than a coward as he runs away from Thailand over a 2-year jail sentence that surely would have been suspended had he not become a fugitive. But worse he has encouraged his followers to give their lives for his financial gain, his ego and need for absolute power.

It baffles the mind anybody who would believe what comes out of this guy's mouth let alone hold him up as somebody who cares the least about Thailand and its people unless he is getting something out of it.

I couldn't agree more. Thaksin is obviously seeking some sort of martyrdom from his disciples and anyone who can't see through his puppet show has completely lost the plot in my opinion.

  5. It's all about money, everything is business. Undoubtedly there is a wealthy bar owner in South Africa that sees his profit skyrocketing by getting a few pretty young Thai girls "entertaining" his guests.....then there is a Thai guy who "knows some people"....and somewhere down the line there were these 3 women who were surely offered a pretty penny for sorting these girls out. In the end, it all boils down to people with power, abusing that power, and 3rd world people longing for a better life, being the pawns in this chess game called life. Drug trafficking, human trafficking - same same, not so different.

  6. And Thailand's answer to its declining image and lawlessness is to have the Ministry of Tourism promote a national drink.

Yeah, because that'll solve everything. Wipe out foreigners after they've spent 'X' amount of baht in this country already and then replace them with 5 star hotel dwellers to make up for lost funds. :o

  7. I too heard this almost a year ago, but am very good friends with several of the owner/operators in that area and have not heard much since. In fact, I don't believe that the owners of Utopia would have made the recent internet/travel shop addition, Rasta/Babylon to continue to remodel, Kaya to just be built, etc.... just to have to tear everything down eventually, too much money would be lost.
