British Couple Find Bargain Life in Thailand's Affordable Charm
Gogle AI says rate of assault in UK is higher than in Thailand: AI Overview Official statistics indicate that the rate of assault is higher in the UK than in Thailand, though direct comparisons are difficult due to differences in recording practices and definitions of crime between countries. Several sources support this conclusion: Anecdotal Evidence and Safety Indices: Many people living in or visiting Thailand anecdotally agree that it feels very safe regarding general violent crime. Numbeo city indices cited in one source show major UK cities like London and Birmingham having significantly higher violent crime indices than Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Homicide Rates: The UK's homicide rate is approximately 1.0 per 100,000 people, which is considered "low crime" by UNODC/World Bank standards. While specific, recent, nationwide assault rates for Thailand were not available in the search results, related data suggests lower rates of serious violent crimes compared to Western countries.

Wrong: AI reports: Key Crime Statistics at a Glance (Most recent reliable data) Crime Category Thailand (Rate per 100,000 pop) United Kingdom (Rate per 100,000 pop) Which is Higher? Homicide (Intentional) 5.9 (2021) 1.1 (2021) Thailand Assault Data less reliable Data consistently high United Kingdom Robbery 15.3 (2020) 88.1 (2020) United Kingdom Theft 207.1 (2020) 2,434.5 (2020) United Kingdom Burglary 41.5 (2020) 403.1 (2020) United Kingdom Analysis and Important Context 1. Violent Crime: A Mixed Picture Homicide: Thailand has a significantly higher homicide rate than the UK. This is often linked to regional conflicts in the deep south, organized crime, and personal disputes. Assault & Robbery: The UK has a much higher rate of reported street crime, robberies, and assaults (including alcohol-related violence). Tourists in Thailand are statistically far less likely to be victims of violent mugging or random assault than in many UK cities. 2. Property Crime: A Clear Difference This is the most striking difference. The UK has a dramatically higher rate of theft, burglary, and car crime. Petty theft like pickpocketing exists in tourist areas of Thailand, but the overall prevalence of property crime is much lower.

Strong Baht and Safety Fears Weigh on Thai Tourism
From the internet 1 Australian Dollar equals 21.13 Thai Baht 1 United States Dollar equals 32.38 Thai Baht https://www.google.com/search?q=aud+v+thb&pws=0&gl=us&gws_rd=cr The prices pictured are from a money changer booth, not a bank, or may be an old stock picture. The spread between buy and sell rates is much higher than Thai banks. Better rates are available from banks for large transactions. My experience is that Thai banks give better rates than banks in Western countries. My experience is with SCB bank which was excellent in the handling and rates for foreign exchange.

Question about obtaining bank letter from BBL
I always get the letter from the Chaeng Wattana branch of BBL on the day of attending for visa renewal. Usually queue for IB entry number and when I receive the IB wait number for visa renewal, I go down to BBL and get the letter. Never had a problem for over 15 years.

new 90 day...
The response time of IB to 90 day report submissions is variable and at times can exceed ten days. It is irrational that an attendee at IB can get approval after waiting ~ 1 hour while the online submissions response time can be ten days or more.

British Nationals Face Increased Scrutiny as Thailand Cracks Down on Crime

California doctor claims spicy Thai dish left her with chemical burns
Bogus lawsuit. She is probably making money from social media from this issue. It will be interesting to see if a US court allows the case to proceed because if the jurisdiction of US law is accepted for this case it opens up US companies to a sh!tstorm of similar lawsuits by entities outside the USA.

Electronic visa extension system has been around for a year! Has anyone used it?
The 5000 THB super urgent service appears grossly excessive. Any applicant that required 7 days or less service for VFS visa service would be foolish to trust the IB online service based on past performance where the service time for online 90-day reports is variable at best with times from 1 to more than 10 days evident. Visa fee: 1,900 THB Service fee as following: • Regular Service fee: 500 THB to get your e-Extension decision within the next 7 business days. • Express Service fee: 1,500 THB to get your e-Extension decision within the next 3 business days. • Super urgent service fee: 5,000 THB *You can also apply for a super urgent service, to get your e-Extension decision within the next day (only business day).

Other countries don't charge a fee for the online service other than the visa fee. It can be deduced it is a ripoff if the entity charges more to get it done quicker. It is obviously a scam to rip off people who are late with their application and need quick consideration. The other aspect of document submissions is that IB asks for the submission of information that it already has. It also asks for photographs despite the fact they take digital photographs at the interview. The visa process would be smoother and shorter if they did not require submission of documents they already have in IB files. The IB previously asked for a swathe of documents with the 90-day report application by mail. Since the online service, IB only asks for the online application form submission and no other documents. That is proof that the swathe of documents they had previously requested with 90-day report submissions by mail was unnecessary. A visa extension requires the submission of 14 pages of documents which appears excessive.

I would expect IB to make it clear the categories that can be extended online. But they don't. I tried the VFS online service but it didn't work or have a selection for retirement. You have to work through the online extension and find out it doesn't work when you try to find the selection for retirement as a visa type selection. It appears that VFS is less than a professional service and is probably an ex-IB official making money from his knowledge and contacts within IB. Other countries have such online services which actually work and make life easier.
