What? How do you know that I took away that information, and left out to mention that? I got everything I wanted to have in my post. You shall not come here and tell me what should have been standing in my post. Write you own one and design it like you want it to be.

But ok, let´s go to work:

No 1: Don´t know. It can´t be the this people. They are everywhere, but it doesn´t look like this dump in other places. However, there are almost more foreigners in Pattaya than Thais, so I guess it´s the foreigner that created this mess. Time to clean it up!

No 2: Out of the info above you already know that. The foreign criminal elements that since decades grown into the core of the city like an terminal disease.

That looks awfully like Thai logic to me. Same Same as foreigner run down crossing the road by pickup with black smoke and loud exhaust doing 80ks an hour with driver chatting on mobile phone. Conclusion, "foreigner to blame. if foreigner not come him not get run over"!

Just the thought of that they actually let this be, grow and are doing this to inflict pain and suffering on the tourist industry is unfathomable.

However, I can sometimes understand the single Thai incidents and many individual Thai citizens actions. That based on the fact of Pattaya as a magnet for criminality and slime of the earth extremely rotten and unwanted foreigner the city seem to attract. If this comment was only based on them, then they could let Pattaya rot and build an unbreakable dome over the city.

Ok, as a good thing. I also personally know a bunch of good guys that have settled down in Pattaya, so that does not go for them or anybody else that knows how to behave. it´s just that the city unfortunately seems to attract to much of the wrong people.

In England we have a saying that says "you can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear".  Pattaya is what it is and at the moment it's biggest problem is that it doesn't really know what it wants to be. if it wants to be a modern holiday resort city that attracts 'good' tourists then it needs to improve its infrastructure and services. It needs to spend money on capital urban regeneration (and not just build more and more condo blocks to sit empty for years on end). It needs to clean up the beaches and bring water quality up to international standards and then it needs to end its pursuit of 'cheap charlie' tours from China, Russia and the like. OR, it can accept it's origins and go the 'pile it high, sell it cheap' route and continue to seek out the above mentioned 'new farang' but it can't have both!

There is a video who does not blur out his face if you search for it.

The reality is that even where, as in this case, the act seems to be a blatant one, there does need to be a degree of presumption of innocence or you get mob justice.  There is a serious lack of competence in the forensic police practices in Thailand and the practice of parading alleged perpetrators in front of the TV cameras in order that they can publicly incriminate themselves will probably land Thailand in the international court at some time in the future.

  4. Being charitable, having watched the clip a few times, perhaps initially he thought it was his phone that he had placed there whilst he had his feet washed. That was until the point he noticed the other worker looking in his general direction and the owner of the phone coming back. At that point he kept his hand over the phone. That looks shady and rather like he knew what he was doing.  Having been charitable, I would now say that it is Soi Buakhaow and a singlet, cargo pants combo. Nuff said!

funny that Chamberlain should have said that,

(same chap that secured peace for the foreseeable future?)

    No! That was

    Neville Chamberlain
Arthur Neville Chamberlain was a British Conservative statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1937 to May 1940. Chamberlain is best known for his foreign policy of appeasement, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding the German-speaking Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Germany
  6. It did no such thing, in fact quite the opposite! 60% of those who voted, voted for parties that favored a confirmatory vote with remain being an option. The Tories got in with only 45% of the vote. That is not a working democracy. What Labour's loss highlighted was not a will "to get Brexit done" but the pointless in-fighting in the Labour party and a lack of clear direction on it's part. Jeremy Corbyn's policies were actually the best ones for the country as a whole. His mistake was to think that promoting them instead of meeting the Brexit challenge head on was going to win. He over-estimated the intelligence of the demographic he had to convince. Labour still haven't learned the lesson. They will get nowhere, whoever is the leader, until the party as a whole stops playing with itself and decides that it is going to be a serious party of opposition. It should ask the SNP to give it some lessons (or even the traitor Farage for that matter!).

  7. For westerners, Thailand is the accessible 'exotic east' with its tropical climate and alien ways. To the 'new' tourists who also come from Asia the attractions are different. They also have exotic locations, tropical climate and Asian culture and if they want dirty beaches and garbage dumped anywhere and everywhere, well they have that at home also. So TAT have to work out why these new tourists want to come to Thailand and Pattaya. It's probably for what they can't get at home and as I have said they have all the natural attractions that Thailand has. So!

  8. I think you guys need a reality check! Getting all holier than thou over this.  The same thing happens in just about every country, it certainly does in the UK where if you can pay for a lawyer, particularly a barrister, you will do alright. And how many of you get on your motor scooters (without a crash helmet) and ride home from the beer bar after spending a few hours necking Chang!

  9. It really depends on when you are going. At the moment the pound is falling and the Baht is strong against it. Some economist have predicted the pound -baht rate as low as 17 baht to the pound in a year or two. I'm no expert but that tells me that buying pounds sterling with Thai baht will get cheaper. The problem is how do you do it unless you are buying cash here and intend to carry it on you personally when you travel. Transferring baht to the UK is difficult. Dee Money in Bangkok is the only outfit that I have found where you can do it, although it's possible that services is currently suspended.

having to report your presence to immigration everytime you return home from an overnight trip to another town is beyond ludicrous. enjoy it though yeah.

I used to think that but it turns out it is not the case. If you are on a long term visa, mine is a working one, then the 90 day report is enough as long as you return to your reported address. I just had a weekend in Isan staying in a homestay. My Thai friend booked us in so as far as immigration knows I wasn't there. Even trips abroad should not really be a problem. An officer at Jomtien immigration told me "no need to report every time, just do 90 report as normal".

That said, I think the Philippines and Cebu are a far better location than the land of smiles. Two pluses are, you can have an in-depth conversation with a Pinoy and, for us Brits, the state pension increases are not frozen as they are if you live in Thailand and, as the supermarket advert goes 'every little helps'!

Can't believe all the useless posts here. I will repeat my question again. CAN YOU GET A IDL WITH A TEMPORARY 2 YEAR THAI DRIVERS LICENSE.

No!  If you took the trouble to read the responses you would understand that there is no such thing as an international drivers license, an IDL as you call it, period!  You may be able to obtain an international driving permit (IDP) in accordance with the terms of the Geneva Convention based on a Thai license as it relates to here in Thailand. I suggest you go to your nearest Land transport Office and ask.

  12. Saying the sign was printed in Thai, 'well, because we are in Thailand' is pretty lame. English is supposed to be an official language in Thailand, I believe. It certainly would help the people to learn English better if international companies also used English alongside Thai so that Thai people can become more familiar with the language in everyday use. The inability to communicate internationally will continue to hold Thailand back until they take education seriously.

  13. You just have to look at who the current government is cosying up to see where it's getting its ideas from. I saw the PM this week on television talking about anti-corruption and the need for everything in government and public life to be open and transparent. It then went right from that to a report on the governments ever closer links with Russia. I nearly dropped my can of Singha, I laughed so much. I guess he would consider it impolite to enquire where his new friends got all their money from considering that twenty five years ago no Russians were allowed to own anything! I guess that nice friendly ex KGB officer, Mr Putin has been giving him a few pointers on how to suppress the people and spy on them. Next thing you'll see is the Russian fleet moored up in Sattahip, you know just "a friendly visit" but ready to lend a hand if the "prols" get uppity!

  14. No, it's not true. You have to make an appointment on line or send it by post to be done. I have just sent mine by post because the next avalible appointment is ont for a week or more. They don't 'verify' your degree, they simply copy it and certify that it is a genuine copy of the certificate presented to them, which in itself could be a fake! To get a degree 'verified' you do it through a government agency in the UK and it costs £60 per document pluse postage by courier. It's a total nonsense but I guess its TiT!
