There is no maximum stay, the 180 days you indicated (after being told by an IO) has not been in existence for a long time already.

    http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15380-Questions-&-Answers-on-Thai-Visa.html

Thats the website of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.

    It says:

Furthermore, foreigners who enter the Kingdom under this Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of

not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry.

So yes, it's 180 days for one year then, so yes there is a rule but nobody took the time to research so now you all know it's an official rule, 180 days maximum as a tourist for one year period.

This is a very odd report. Are you saying that your friend stood at the front of the immigration queue booking an expensive flight because a junior official (with no power to make the decision about denying entry) told him to? In my many trips in and out of Thailand, I have never witnessed anything remotely like this. I have never even seen anyone asked for cash or onward flight reservations without being referred to a senior official first.

yes, when there is a problem they take you out of the queue in an office or somewhere else to sit and verify.

One thing sure, they make problems now for anybody who has been staying here for some time or coming too often.

  3. They make a lot of problems at bkk airport now, was questioned one hour last time because i had a second tourist visa this year where as you can have 2 tourist visa per year, like 180 days maximum, they still made problems asking why i was staying that long.

They looked on their computer for one hour at my history but nothing wrong, they let me in but said they put on computer next time i will be denied entry if i come back again this year.

Most visa run groups apply Monday and Thursday mornings. For people who want to spend a few days in Vientiane, it is highly recommended to apply on Friday, getting the passport back with visa Monday afternoon. It is very relaxed that way. People who want to stay a single night should try to apply Tuesday or Wednesday.

    Exactly !

There are a few good restaurants, tyson kitchen, ai capone for the best pizza in vientiane, boh pen yang is a good place to go for a drink and other places to discover.

good coffee shops too, i prefer going there than penang.

Yangon is still a very good option although it has been about a year since I got my last tourist visa there. Think they only wanted to see a plane ticket into Thailand and not out. No bank statements required. Very helpful staff there and was never crowded unlike the madhouse at Vientiane.

Vientiane is crowded when visa runs are there, i go there the day after a visa run, very quiet, nice, fast.

Just check when visa runs go there and don't go the same day :)

no headache, they just want 1 000 bahts, that's it and you're good.

Why is it dead? They have not said no more Tourist Visas will be issued there they just want the paperwork to be in order

In fact it will probably be easier to get a TV there as not as many people will be going

    The usual over reaction

    haha over reaction

it's dead yes, why go to a place where they make it very difficult to get a tourist visa when you can get one easily in laos where they don't ask anything, no airline ticket, no hotel reservation, no bank statement.

they just make it clear they don't want to give tourist visas like they used to, and if you are unlucky to be there and there are more than 100 people, they don't even let you in... How nice is that.

Unless you like to lose your time getting all the papers they ask.

Vientiane, the best is to go when there are no visa run going there, very quiet on these days like i did last month, fast and efficient tourist visa service.

  7. Penang is dead, no more visa run there, they are cleaning up.

Only place to go is Vientiane in Laos, they don't ask anything there, no airline ticket, no hotel reservation, nothing, just money and you get your visa.

Did 2 tourist visa this year already, no problem, just pay and come back next day but this will stop one day for sure, too easy.

But they clearly make a lot of money with visa there until it stops.

  8. Hcmv means ho chi minh ville (or Saigon for the old folks or the locals who still prefers this).

Guys,I would appreciate if someone could assure me I will be allowed back in the country for 30 days at the airport.

Right now, only urban Joe has answered (tks BTW) and I would appreciate other opinions.

I'm really worried to not be allowed back for 30 days (and 30 days extension).

UJ is the most knowledgeable person here. But for what it's worth I agree with him 100%. You should have no problem getting a visa exempt entry at the airport or getting a 30 day extension of stay.

it depends what you have in your passport, how many visas already and where you will land in thailand.

Now they really make problems when they see too many thai visas in a passport...

  9. Many Thai embassies refuse to deliver tourist visas, nothing new there.

Some will say they only deliver visas to locals for example, happened to a friend in vietnam by the way.

You just need to know where to go to get a tourist visa, like Penang.

Going somewhere else might be a problem, they don't want to do it for some reason, dont want this kind of people coming to apply for tourist visa.

  10. Mercman24, "cheap charlies"..., when i see 220 bahts, even 270 bahts in tai pan here in patong for a lady drink, no im not going to buy one.

People are crazy with prices in phuket, maybe cheaper in other places, but why go spend so much money for a lady drink... euro and aussi $ down, they dont realize i think how much it is for farangs just for a f...... lady drink....

  11. A friend who has hotels in patong said 60% down compared to last year in revenue. No russians, bad high season and low season started even before may...

Low euro and australian dollar will not help.

Went to big c, full of chinese so next high season should be bad after a very difficult low season...

Should see many businesses for sale soon, some rents are so ridiculous here to make decent money out of it.

And prices went up too in phuket, 250 baths for a heineken in a night club...

Good luck guys, less customers but they rise the prices... Great move lol.

  12. in phuket, the problem is the kind of people in charge of tourists...

Jet ski mafia, tuk tuks, etc

Impossible to change those people so things will stay the same and people will go away.

how many stories with tuk tuk charging drunk tourists at night, 1500 or 2000 baths for 5mn ride...

Tuk tuk charging 400 baths, saying no change for a 1000 bath bill and driving away with the 1000 baths...

What a shame but they just dont understand, they are limited people who say, "another nationality will replace the russians"...

A thai owner told me that the other day so they dont care what tourist face when they come here, they think people will keep coming anyway...

  13. "In his passport which is issued at Amsterdam on May 2014, shows that he has Education Visa stating that he registered for course at Pattaya Language and Computer School."

Thats why no more ed visa now, we dont need this kind of people here, send back the trash where it came from.
