  1. I have a extension of stay based on a "o" visa back from 2012. My next date for my 90 day report is mid June. I need to return again to the UK very shortly. I have a current multi re-entry visa, which has been used once already on my return on the 17th May from the UK.

Can I leave for the UK soon and re-enter OK? My 90 day report will be passed by 3-4 weeks on my return from the UK. I may have to stay longer.

Is it best to wait and do my 90 day report then go to the UK?

Is there any restrictions on the length of time you can stay away from Thailand,as long as I return before the expiry of the re-entry visa.

What happens to any current 90 day report dates if they are passed by several months?

    Many thanks

  2. Yes to malignant and yes to the wide incision. The first biopsy indicated a thin melanoma less than 1mm. This meaning it has not spread beyond this point. I am still awaiting further biopsy of 3 other melanoma. Which I should receive in the next week.

Upon these results giving me the all clear,I shall return to Chiang Mai and seek out the expertise of Dr.Siri.

    Many thanks

  3. I shall be returning home to Chiang Mai shortly, after my first visit back to the UK for 4 years.

Since of have been in the UK I have been diagonised with a melanoma (skin cancer)

I have had treatment and hopefully after my final meeting with the specialist,I will be given the all clear.

I have been informed I will need to see a specialist every 3 months for the first year.

I would like to visit one of the dermatologist recommeded in Chiang Mai but I am not sure if they specialize in this certain area. Has anyone else had any check ups and if so could you please me give your opinion?

I was thinking of booking a return flight from the Uk but did not like the idea of taking my daughter out of school again. Also the price for air tickets will be way more than seeing a specialist in chiang Mai.

But at the same time I do need to feel reasurrance from the specialist I visit that they are more than competent in this field.

Any help or comments would be grateful.

  4. I need to do my 90 day run in the next couple of weeks, which I have done numerous times before.

The only difference is i may need to take my daughter with me. I have done this before but then I went with my girlfriend and my daughter was put on her ID card entry. I have recently finished with my girlfriend,so this is not possible now.

My daughter holds both Thai/British passports. What are the options please?

If its going to be too difficult then I will arrange for her to stay with someone for the day.

    many thanks.

  5. Many thanks orang37 and chunkton for your overall comments. Very helpful and reinsuring. I will do some more searches on the forum to help me decide the appropriate action I will take.

    many thanks

  6. I have thought about divorce based on irreconcilable breakdown but is our thai marriage certificate with english translation sufficient as proof to start this process or will I be informed the marriage needs to be registered first in the Uk before i can proceed? We all know how hard it is in the Uk to do the simplest things.Thats why I moved to los.

As to settlement my wife has always said she would not want anything from me as I looked after us for 4 years,so my money has decreased since we have been together. Also my wife does not help financely since our split even though she has been in full time employment until border agency got involved,so now I have no chance of any support from her.

All my assets are in the Uk.Except pick-up,motorbikes which are in my name.

Tommorrow I will go to the courts in Chiang Mai and get a few answers about a divorce.

  7. I need to start divorce proceedings here in Chiang Mai. I live here with my daughter and her mum stays in the UK.

She is unable to return to Thailand due to no current visa for the UK and also being 5 months pregnant.

The marriage was registered in Thailand. Can anyone give advice to what direction I should take and who to use for my application.

    many thanks.

  8. No I am not divorced in the UK.I understand I can get divorced in the UK but this would be more complicated and costly.

I will try the Chiang Mai forum to see if anyone can help further.

    thanks.

  9. Me and my wife want a divorce but our problem is she is in the Uk and I am in Thailand. We married in Thailand and did not registered it in the Uk but i am aware this marriage is recognised in the UK. I have enquired at my local amphur and they inform me we both have to be in Thailand to get a divorce.

The only problem with this is my wife's settlement visa expired over 17 months ago and at present she has no current visa.So she can not travel out of the UK as she will not be able to return.I reported her illegal status over 6 months ago when she started court proceedings against me,to get me and our daughter back in the Uk after we had already been living in Thailand for over 1 year.My lawyer got the case dismissed on the grounds she has only a 12 month period to get a high court order to get us back so we can face the court hearing in the county court. Her lawyer which she obtained through legal aid (even though she was a illegally in the country) did not do their job properly. Some time through the court hearing we insisted some clarification on the situation on her visa status.Which we had a reply from the border agency she was refused ILR visa and also at the appeal they refused her application. At present no other application has been made.

In her last attempt to stay in the UK she has got her self pregnant (5 months) so she can not travel now even if she had a current visa. So down to the divorce i was informed at the local amphur I would have to go to court in Thailand to seek a divorce.Which is ok with me but I did not want this to be too lenghty and costly. As the court case in the Uk cost over 6,000 pound and nothing was gained from this.So I would not like to waste much more money if possible.I think divorce in the UK would be more difficult and costly and at present I do not wish to return.

I forgot to mention we have been seperated for over 2 years.

If anyone has any help or information I would be very grateful.

  10. I tried miguels on the Lamphun Rd 2 weeks ago for the first time with my parents and son from the UK and had a excellent meal and service. Also the price was reasonable and there is a garden for the young ones to run around in and they have a good pool table.

Normally I go for an indian when I fancy something different but my last couple have been standard so it will be Miguels for me next time, unless someone can point me in the wright direction of a good indian?

  11. Chiang Mai wants court ordered sole custody of the child to grant the extension.

While I give congrats for the op for a good outcome in Penang, what you report as the general practice of CM immigration office as to expats with families (and meeting the income qualifications for an in-country annual extension) and still being refused is patently ridiculous. I mean, <deleted> is this "court [order] sole custody" BS in order to grant this extension...is it basically an unauthorized hurdle put in the way of applicants in order to encourage offers of money for tea and coffee?

I really hand it to the expats who put up with this BS in order to be with and support their Thai families. I sometimes think all the farangs in such situations should say "enough with all this...we're not gonna take it anymore" and pick-up stakes and leave their Thai relatives flat! Maybe then the hue and cry from the countryside would be heard in the halls of Parliament in Bangkok, and the appropriate phone calls made to the Interior Ministry, and then the petty officers in CM transferred to those "inactive posts" we read so much about!

I agree the hoops in Thailand are getting smaller and there are more every year to jump through.

Sometimes I do think about alternative countries to reside in, but at the present I can just still jump through them.

Though next year is another story.

  12. I did go to immigration in Chiang Mai and explained the situation. They informed me that I was not entitled to a extension, even though I knew I met the requirements.

Immigration offices can differ from one to another,as well as the officers working there.

Most applicants are married or married with children living together in Thailand.

When I did my home work before my application I could not remember reading a thread where someone was succesfull with a extension based on child dependant at the Chiang Mai Immigration. But it may be I did not look hard enough.

At the time I thought who am to argue? So I went with option number two and was satisfied with the outcome in Penang. :)

  13. I do not write many threads, but I beleive its good to read all latest visa application info. As this helps everyone to decide what visa to apply for and what documentation is required.

I will not bore you with all the facts, but I will give you a quick breakdown.

Left my house in chiang Mai this Tuesday morning at 8.30 and returned Thursday evening 11.00.

    Information I provided:-

Visa form downloaded from The Ministry of Foreign Affairs with two photos attached.

    Copy of my passport

My daughters Thai/English birth certificate,Thai house registration book,thai/english passport and letter from her current school.

Letter from the British Consulate to clarify income to exceed 40,000 baht.

    House rental agreement,vehicle/motorbike registration.

Gave them 550Rm (5,500Bht) and was informed to return the next day to collect visa subject to approval.

Returned the following day to be given my multi entry "o". :)

  14. I visited immigration on Friday to ask what was needed to extend my visa, based on the information on my posting.

They informed me I could not extend this! I explained i have a child (4 years) educated in Chiang Mai,40,000 baht income every month but it was still no!

They informed me I needed to visit a consulate outside the country.

So looks like I am going to Penang.

  15. My multi entry o expired on 12/2/09 and I have entry until 12/05/09.

My original visa was obtained in the Uk on the grounds I have a Thai dependant.(my daughter)

It is now the time to start to think where and on what grounds I should apply for my new visa.

My daughter has been living with me in Thailand since 7/03/08 and my estranged wife stayed in the UK.

Will it be as straight forward to apply because of have my Thai daughter or will I get questions asked about my wife?

I draw income every month between 40,000-60,000 baht via my english ATM Visa card via any Thai ATM machines. I have english bank statements to varify this.

Is this acceptable or should I have been moving money into my Thai bank account then drawing from this? (which is the same)

Could I get a letter from the British Consulate in Chiang mai to verify my income and would this be acceptable instead?

Can I still apply for a one year extension on the above information?

Is Penang the best option for me in my current situation if I do not apply for the extension?

    many thanks

  16. I shall be returning to Thailand in Feb 08 with my 3 year old Thai/British daughter,my wife I presume will stay in the UK until her settlement visa expires in April 08.

We are still married and plan to get a divorce in Thailand when and if my wife return to her home country, should I apply for my multi entry "O" on the grounds i am married or on the grounds that I am to support and take care of our daughter?

I plan to stay a few years so my daughter can learn the Thai language at school and experience the culture.

Which ever one I go for what are the implications when I come to apply for a one year extension for myself and if I need to go Penang after the extension expires will I be granted a multi "o" on the grounds "supporting Thai citizen"

Should I draft a consent form for my wife to sign allowing me free movement with my daughter in and out of Thailand and England if and when this is needed?

Would I have any problems leaving Thailand with my daughter when the time came to return to the UK?(I have both my daughters passports)

Any other thoughts and questions on this delicate matter would be appreciated

  17. Big thanks again,I understand that the law in England can be sometimes unfair and I beleive in this case it is.

My case for that is for the last 4 years we have been spending a lot more than has been coming out my bank balance from the interest,so my balance has dwindled and upon our return to the Uk the overall prices are much higher and now I can not afford the things before as now i am nearly starting fresh again.(house, car, job)

So i feel a little angry and bitter than the courts may give my wife half of what i have left after my wife has given nothing in our relationship financially and sometimes little in effort.

I would have liked to help my two other children as now they are coming of age and they need a little help in most things in the UK to start them off,but if the courts award half then I would only have enough to survive and bring up our little one!

I may suggest going back to Thailand and seeking a divorce then offer to build her a house on her land which was recently left to her after her fathers death, then this way she has a home when and if she returns to Thailand.

At the end of the day we all have choices in life and sometimes it is very hard to see all the possibile outcome but this is what makes life unique.I will move on from this after learning a few more lessons in life.

    Many thanks
