ALL well and good for larger cities and tourist area down here in more rural area even the Locals are confused about how to get vaccination, anyway being registered isn't the same as being vaccinated as the PM is still talking about delays in delivering vaccine.

Today we just paid for Moderna. The instructions told us we will get the vaccination in order of payment, starting in October through to December. You are right, people have to travel to the big cities for it. Moderna is done through the private hospitals, not the government. The government is still focused on Sinovac. They are giving Sinovac out in the small villages though.

  2. It is interesting how we continue to get fake news here. Those of us who have already registered for Moderna in 48 hours the THG window was open (with the whole process in Thai) got an email yesterday confirming the cost will be 1,700 baht x 2 providing you do not have any medical complications. We have not been asked to pay yet though. It was explained to us that the private hospitals plan to have a procurement Memorandum of Understanding in place with the Moderna agent by August (and to collected down payments from registered people by then) but that they would order AFTER that date.

He keeps talking about things I just want to know where can I go to get vaccinated I think this virus has been around now 14 months I’d really like to know what is the actual percent of foreigners I’ve been able to get vaccinated it’s a joke TiT

This very forum carried the instructions on how farangs can register for the free vaccinations. It is online and easy to do. The info that was missing here though was the Moderna registration (3800 baht) which we all registered for in my household and have our queue numbers. They only opened 1m spaces and it was full within 48 hours. They may make the target (so far they vaccinated 5.4m) as many employers are forcing Thais to get Sinovac/Sinofarm or get fired.

Ban them they are run by criminals and are a hazard to swimmers.

...or replace them with buoyed off areas and licensed and insured companies, under the direct control of the port authority.

//Edit: As the PA would receive licensing money and the companies are paying it plus insurance etc - they will clean it up between themselves PDQ.

Each city has it's institutional scam. Pattaya the jet ski, diving in Phuket, and Karaoke in Chiang Mai where a beer can cost some poor guy 40,000 baht. Firstly it amazes me that people still fall for it. Do they not watch the programs on TV back home about it or read anything posted here? Second, I think it will never stop. If you shut this down, another city scam institution will pop up. At least any one with common sense knows about these. The best thing for damage limitation is always to go to the police to negotiate the claim as the Thai criminal justice system allows compromise.

im actually looking forward to tomorrows press release as this is getting more stupid by the day...I can feel a huge clarification (U TURN) about to arrive

I don't think so, things are about to get worse.

    They are for teachers!

If you don't have Ed. after your degree title, it's getting harder and harder to get a teaching cert - and thus, a work permit.

You can have a Master's degree... but if it's a MA or MSc you're now doomed. Has to be a B.Ed or M.Ed. to get a teaching licence now!

    <deleted>.

There is a way to get that, but involves money and effort. UniTEFL in Chiang Mai do an online course to convert you and then you can get your real license.

  6. Good god! The amazing thing is what TV'ers will spend three pages discussing. This seems like much ado about absolutely nothing!

A little walk about might do some good. I hear its good for the heart, and for ones health generally. Also, it might also help understanding through direct experience. Now that is a thought!

  7. The original thread focused on running a bar rather than on the bar itself. It is common knowledge that nearly all these bars operate in a similar manner with free lance consultants and no employees. The other day there was some great cage fighting in the boxing ring there. The bar seems to be doing well.

Are you the owner of pussycat bar? I'm sure you made a post in the "deleted" thread that sounded like you'd meant to use the sponsor's logon id. Apologies if you're not.

TBH IDGAF about bars on LK, not been down that area in 14 years. I gotta life wife wink.png

I do like the occasional drink down the bars, but I do not own a bar; I thought one needs to be able to speak Thai for that? My friend Stewart has to dart out of the bar when the other half calls - good for a laugh. If the wife is jealous, I can understand it would be difficult to sneak out.

  8. The ad disappeared after a couple of days, presumably because most of the comments were negative, so he pulled it out. I raised the question of the lack of girls on his photos and I forget what the excuse was, but I was passing by the next day and looked in. As expected, no girls. That wouldn't help. It was tucked away in the far corner and had no redeeming qualities that I could see. It looked as sad and uninteresting as the pictures he posted.

Why anyone wants to open a tiny bar in an area with 20 or more bars and in effect become a pimp in Thailand is beyond me. I'm not against girly bars, I just don't understand why someone would want to be involved in that business.

I passed the other day and saw 4 girls, but that was later I guess. In Thailand girls sell alcohol in Big C too. It is funny how the advert was pulled. Maybe it had something to do with Thaivisa moving into the girlie bar business too? Who knows...

  9. And the plot thickens: "Next Thursday we celebrate the bar's successful opening. If you come early, you can even get Fish'N'Chips..." posted 5 min ago on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/chiangmaibarmeow

    Good find,

Three girls on the left, possible.

Girl on right, bait and switch.

Can I suggest that your post read 'Good catch' to go with 'bait' and 'fish'?

  10. Any foreigner trying to buy and run a new bar anywhere in CM (let alone LK) with the current economic situation would need a sanity test.

This guy, couldn't have done any market research, costing analysis or business plan at all.

How long did it last 3 weeks? a month?

Normally a new business should expect to run 6 months before any idea of profit/loss.

Sounds like the guy didn't have enough money to start a business, or broke up with the gf and walked out.

    Amazing Thailand.

Plans for the bar were probably in place before martial law and the coup, but the presumably the owners knew they were opening during low season at a time when months of political unrest were resulting in a worse than average low season. It does make you wonder what they were thinking.

I haven't hung out in the CM Entertainment Plaza, or the LK area, for a long time. Has the bad economy resulted in more interesting company in these places?

Most bars are empty because of the problems with travel insurance issues and the political uncertainty. This has caused many travelers to cancel their plans to come here. There were lots of backpackers yesterday, so I guess 7/11 will recover quickly.

    Let's get real.
Who are the tourists who are not turning up in Thailand because of this 'martial law' ?

Basically, Chinese and other Far East people in those Asian tour groups, back-packers and other non sex-tourists.
The men who turn up here, and actually drink in the bars and pay the bar fines, are NOT going to avoid Thailand !

As people were saying back in September 2011, and when SARS came about, nothing but a nuclear bomb will stop the customers of Nana Plaza going there again.

And yes, Thailand is pretty quite right now, not many tourists, but that, I reckon, is more due to the 'quite season'. It's normally this quite, anyway.

    And no, I'm not a Suthep-sympathiser !

Q u i e t ? Backpackers are there; can't get rid of them. Kinda like thai relatives

I have a bar in Chiang Mai and yesterday was not as bad as the day before. I think it will take a few days for the news to impact people's travel plans. As for the sex-pats, they are still around. The rain is far worse than the army for driving them away.

Well you can thank suthep for all of this. if he had kept his word (which he did not) in the beginning whenthe Pm dissolved Parliment non of this would have happened. But he is just too greedy and wants to be the supreme commander of Thailand in a dictatorship similar to North Korea

Give it a rest. TV have announced a zero tolerance policy on blatant propaganda.

Why do you think the former disgraced PM dissolved parliament? Perhaps if PTP had acted honestly and within the law none of this wouldn't have happened?

Stop trying to blame others for the real cause, which everyone here knows.

Hitler did the same as Suthep back in Germany when he became Fuhrer. World history teaches us the lessons of that.

What does a 'European-looking' man look like??? Russian? Brit? American? Scandinavian? Actually, how do all these people look like really? Sheesh...

Europeans look European, Asians look Asian, Africans look African, Middle-Easters look Middle-East and so on ... etc ...

The Denmark girl did refer to the chap as a European-looking and therefore lives in Europe, but it does not necessarily mean that he lives in Europe, as a European-looking fellow he could have come from another European-race countries like ... Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America, Western Russia, Israel, etc ...

This is not accurate in the article. She referred to him as mediteranean with dark skin, aged around 35 years old. We believe he may be living in Thailand.

    <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

She did not call out for help and she followed him around without visible cohersion. This means he probably will not be charged with the robbery. BUT he did threaten her and knew where she was staying, so she decided to check out of her hotel and leave the city. I asked her why she did not run away or call for help. She said she was too frightened. I think a guy preying on helpless young girls needs to be sent a message.

Since you are involved in this case--can you confirm/deny that CCTV images are 'said' to show both people arriving and leaving on a motorcycle--is this true or BS???

The CCTV is from the bank only. The lady declared she arrived with the man on his motorbike after he had convinced her to give him 200 Baht in front of her hotel. She did not say she left with him.

Thank you--for that--it makes more sense now why people like you are able to believe her story--it helps to get the facts; I was lead to believe that they arrived and left together making it seem very much like an Insurance scam.

She was far too trusting. My Thai wife, also working this case, was not convinced by her story, so it is only normal that opinions on this forum are divided.
