And I am leaving China to return to Thailand mainly because of the abhorrent Chinese firewall. Here's hoping something happens and it doesn't happen in Thailand.
For anyone who's not experienced the Internet in China, welcome to 1995 dial-up, on a good day.

My sympathies for your misfortune, kind sir.
It's so much easier to put in the boot rather than express understanding and sympathy, regardless of the wisdom of your actions.
It's in times like these we/you/I need understanding rather than uncaring remarks that are so prevalent here.

This is great news for tourists from non-favored nations. Now, I may have a chance to bring in my GF from such a nation.....we wanted to continue our life in my home, Chiang Mai, but she was not welcome after 60 days, then the additional 30.
And those 60 days were only granted after a 5-week wait for a Thai tourist visa in Penang.
I LOVE THE KING.

God bless the Pinays, each and every one of them.
IMO, the perfect situation is to find a nice Pinay and bring her to beautiful Thailand....and, furthermore, I believe them to be the most beautiful of all Asians, especially when they live outside PI.

I searched the forum and couldn't find this question covered before, although I can't believe it hasn't been raised before.
So, here it is. I am a farang with a Thai retirement visa in good standing. I have an African girlfriend. We were able to get her a 60-day visa and then extended it another 30 days. We have been out of Thailand for about a month but want to return to live in Thailand.
Is it possible, if we were married, that she could be given some sort of a long-term visa, as the wife of a retirement-visa holder?
Thanks for any advice you may offer.

Happy for you beer drinkers....but may I register my drinks issue while we're at it?
OK, here's the deal. Chang makes the best soda water, bar none, in the whole world. I speak as a sparkling water aficionado. You can have your Pellegrino, Tipperary, or whatever favorite you have but, imo, Chang's soda water cannot be topped.
Here's my issue, however. I spend only a few months a year in Thailand. Just enough to re-ignite my Chang addiction. But then when I must leave to go elsewhere, I NEVER can find Chang. Not anywhere else in Asia, or the rest of the world.
Do they have a strict No Export policy, or what?

If anyone ever doubted: Iran=State sponsored terrorism!!
Well done to the Thais to have got some of the bastards.
You may be right, but not unlike many other governments, eh?

All the best to you, Colin.

I hope it never comes to CM. I'd miss the early rising, standing in line, and unnecessarily boring wait to report my goings-on of the last 90 days. Progress is bad for the future.

She will get nothing at the border crossing because Kenyans are not eligible for visa exempt entries or visas on arrival.
She probably cannot get a tourist visa at any nearby location either because Kenya is on the list of countries that must apply for a visa in their home country.
Has she gotten a 30 day extension for her 60 day entry yet. I don't think Kenya is on the list of countries that cannot get them.
If no 30 day extension the best she could do is get a 7 day extension at immigration to give her time to sort things out.
----------
This is another case of incomplete/ambiguous information. Because, even if the law states that she must apply for a visa in her home country, she, in fact, received her 60-day tourist visa through the Penang Thai consulate.
She has received a 30-day, in-country extension to her tourist visa already....bottom line, we will eliminate all possible Thai badness, and throw the Cambodian visa dice and head to SR.
I love the King.

If you have a valid tourist visa with a remaining entry you will get a 60 day entry.
The 15 days is only if you don't have a valid visa. Perhaps the agent was not aware you had a visa.
She will arrive with a visa expiring in 1-2 days but it's single entry, not multiple.
-
That notice has been there for ages. If you have a visa in your passport, you will not have any problems and you won't be asked to show cash.
The OP (priestly) seems to be mixed up between visa exempt entries and visas. Nobody gets 60 days permission without a valid visa in the passport. It is not clear what visa the OP has, if any.
Priestly here: My Kenyan GF received a 60-day, single-entry tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Penang.
She then renewed it for 30 days at Chiang Mai immigration. It's set to expire on 26 February.
You are right, Briggsy, I haven't a clue about visa exempt entries and visas. All I know is I hope to go to Mae Sai with her and get another 60-day tourist visa.....

Hi,
I am making a visa run with my Kenyan gf from Chiang Mai to Mae Sai and hoping to get 60-day tourist visa....however, was told by a travel agent this morning that they will only offer 14-day visas in Mai Sai.
Anyone done a visa run there and can report?
Thanks, Terence

Well, Samran, changing from the Lion to the Air bird would put me squarely in the foothills of financial tomfu**ery since airfare is a snap under 4000 baht.
But thanks for your Liberace. Looking now like me and little queenie will hop aboard the Orient Depress and do the overnight to BKK, where bag restrictions are as non-existent as rosaries in a wat.
-
The gf and I are moving from Chiang Mai to Siem Reap. Will fly Lion Air from CM to BKK. Great ticket price: 1175 baht.
The catch? Any luggage above 15 kg check-in and 7 kg carry-on is charged at 400 baht/kg.
So, in effect, the cheap ticket becomes damn expensive. Since we will take a bus from Ekami to Cambodia border, we'd like to ship 40 kg from CM to BKK, pick it up there and take overland on bus.
Can anyone tell me of fast dependable shipping of said luggage (about 40KG) from CM to Bangkok for a whole lot than 400 baht/kg?
Thanks

what is called ” a potentially lethal orgy” by Father Michael Kelly an Australian who works in Bangkok for a catholic newspaper but helps out Aussies in trouble in his spare time.
Ah, god bless Father Kelly, and what a shame it is he must travel monthly from saintly Bangkok to hedonistic Koh Phangan....Are there no limits to which the Irish will go in their quest to save the lost souls of the world?

"but also proud that we as a people are able to admit it our flaws so we can move forward. Don't find that in many other countries."
Move forward? Would that it were so but I see little of that, unfortunately.

Inmate who spent decades in solitary is released

Agree, Ondral, from another American who's seen blacks unfairly treated for yonks. And, having spent some time in gaol as a younger man, I can assure you all guards are not purity personified. In fact, the profession often draws thugs who are given license to unleash their hatred and bias. Just saying.
And to keep a man in solitary for 43 years....despicable!
