I am afraid the OP might be completely confused

What has been described about the visa/border runs would require a Non-O multiple visa from the home country.

That is the "other" popular option.

The Non-O multiple is good for entering the country within one year from issue date.

Requires a border run (leaving and reentering) no later than 90 days after each entry.

A 5 month stay would require at least one border run.

A 7 month stay would require at least two border runs.

For the OP it means a new visa every year from a Thai consulate.

I totally disagree that a 90 day report is more effort than a visa/border run.

Maybe the remarks refer to the extension package? (proof of income or bank deposit).

And depending on location of stay there might be more convenient border runs than Cambodia like a one day return flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks a lot for the good info, especially the "timing" thing.  I did not understand get that one at all prior to your explanations.

Very easy to do, the only tricky thing is to work out the timing so that the extension renewal date falls on a date when you will actually be in Thailand.  It depends which "route" you take to your retirement extension ;)

If I'm going to be out of Thailand for 6-7 months every year, how do I time it to be in-country for the extension renewal.  Is that just once a year and on the anniversary date so to speak?

There are many people on extensions of stay based upon retirement that are only here for half a year issued at immigration here.

Same for a OA long stay visa from an embassy or consulate in your home country.

I guess they could be called snow birds.

That would seem to answer my question.  Thank you very much.

If you class what is on here as sound advise then your in trouble. Confirmed your  suspicions which you probably got by reading other threads about this in the first place. But hey your life your money your choice. just Rember the old hands may not have seen it as they say maybe heard it or read it same as you and belive it.

I've experienced what has happened to me.  Perhaps (hopefully) I'll be wiser next time around.  Will come back next year to LOS and see if gf is still in her house and ask her to show me the papers concerning the "loan."  Regardless, my intention is to walk away all the wiser but not broke and not bitter - just schooled.

Absolutely Deepinthailand, my sentiment exactly. If you read this forum on events like these it appears there is an overwhelming opinion that there is an incredibly large population of scamming Thai women that do nothing but plot and plan to part foreigners from their money(I'd love a poll on where these men met their GF's Wife etc)  With that said  I bet statistically this type of "scamming" is just a small % of the women here. Posts like the OP's only draws the bitter, irritated, embarrassed ones out to complain about their misfortunes and look for the "misery loves company" environment (interestingly it works).

To me the OP's post is really odd in that if he read what he wrote and sat back and thought about it, common sense would prevail and  he would not need to be posting it looking for advice from 10 or so other guys that missed the boat as well.

The good thing is there many of us that know better and really just chuckle at the constant barrage of generalizing statements that "All Thai women", or "99% of all Thai women" etc etc are scammers and cheats etc. Its the farthest from the truth. Its a minority in the big picture.

I never said anything about all Thai women.  Just that this loan thing smells fishy and that I do not intend on "paying" it off.  Wanted to get the opinions from some of the well meaning old hands that have seen a lot more than I have, and for the most part they have confirmed my suspicion and given sound advice.

Just read through this 15 mins of laughter. I presume this was initiated by the OP to get the desired responses from the same old posters 5555 You have been together for 11 years ? right oh I belive every word you wrote NOT.

I wrote been "with" her.  The "with" was supposed to indicate that we've been a thing whenever I visit LOS but no, I have not lived in Thailand for 11 years straight.  I've only been visiting her for 1-3 months a year for 11 years.  Next year I was hoping to retire and move into "our" house.  The retirement is still on - moving into "our" house, not so much.  Up to you.

I hid the one dangerous knife in my room when I broke up with my gf.  It turned out it was not necessary, but I don't regret it. I did get the keys. She delayed her irrational emotional response for a few days and that was over the phone.  I was lucky.

Am planning on retiring to Thailand next year and was hoping to live in "our" house (if the loan sharks haven't already foreclosed on it).  May still do it and play the cheap-charlie thing to see how long "love you forever" lasts in Thailand.

it also shows you why you haven't married this lady either ,as with being with her 11 years thats a long time being together and not get married ,as the Thai lady is in most cases looking to get married to the falang even after a short time together, even in the village I get Thai ladies asking me if I have any friends that are willing to marry them ,and these are older ladies and not nice looking either and they have Thai husband/boyfriend as well ,they just don't care they have no values at all they just see the ATM and need it fast ,and they will never get rid of the husband/boyfriend he will be on the side lines like many have already .

I am sure you know what you have to do in your mind already, best of luck ,just make sure all the knives are locked away when you tell her.

"...make sure all the knives are locked away when you tell her."   Seriously?

I have a friend who paid his wife's family thousands of USD because of the "bank wants money" ploy.  He did not review any of the documents or anything, just gave the family members the money.  He still believes his only mistake was marrying a Thai woman whose family had a lot of debt they couldn't pay.  My guess is there was never any debt, only a farang who was fleeced.  Best of luck to the OP.  I know what I would do.

Thanks for this info.  Looks like I'll be walking.  Can't see how staying with her would work out well for me.

That is a chapter in the playbook. No doubt. I would bail. The smaller scams can be tolerable to a degree. But,  200 grand is way to deceitful to overlook.

Shake the tree on this one and there will be old debt where the house was used for collateral and there are loan sharks and not banks circling

If there actually was a loan (and not just sick buffalo) this would be my guess too.

if  u havent got the balls  to say "no I dont trust you" then you really should give up with women

Thought that telling her to let the bank foreclose because I wasn't going to pay off her "loan" was balls enough.  Regardless, thanks for your input.

Who paid for the house ? (if she paid - walk away............quickly)

If you, did you take out a lease on the land ? (if you did, then it should not be a "regular" loan)

As far as I know her aunt and I paid for the house.  I paid off the aunt's loan when she ran into "money problems" and my part was cash.  No lease.  I've got no chance of recuperating anything from this.  I did tell her to let the bank have it because I was through for paying off her loans that I was not party to.

Assuming it is actually a bank loan. If you're in Thailand it's easy enough to visit the lending bank and get the lowdown. Since it seems you're not here at present there will be associated paperwork and demand letters, ask to see them (emailed scans/photos). Obviously they will be in Thai, you can get them translated ask at a local (preferably Thai) restaurant.

Banks do tend to take a long time to actually foreclose, but since we don't know how aged the debt actually is it's difficult to say what will happen next, or when.

Of course there are other, more shady, lenders out there whose collection techniques are less subtle and whose interest rates are also unsubtle.

And of course, the buffalo could be sick.

Good advice but I don't even know the name of the lending bank and/or loan-shark, and asking her for that info is only going to start a "Why don't you trust me?" conversation.

  14. Recently visited Thai gf and she said that she told me that she needs ~200,000.00 baht to keep the bank from foreclosing on "our" house.  I'm having a hard time believing her.  If (and that is a pretty big if in my opinion) she does owe a bank money on the house then it was probably have for a loan where she used the house for collateral because, as far as I know, the house was already paid off.  How aggressively do Thai banks go after homes used as collateral for loans?  Is this a common "sick buffalo" scam or is she just getting more and more creative?

  15. OP, if you live in Thailand and she is in Thailand, she doesn't need a passport to visit you!

She lives in Thailand. I live in Chile, South America.

OK, did you send her the money for the ticket?

How is she going to get a visa?

    Is it easy for Chile?

No, I did not send her the money for the ticket. Thai citizens do not need visa for Chile.

  16. My girlfriend completely disappeared for about 8 months. Said that she was in Taiwan working as a cook. She also told me that when she came back to Thailand they put some kind of "not number one" stamp in her passport so she went through some process to get a new "clean" passport. She was supposed to visit me about 3 weeks ago but she said that the new passport still hasn't been delivered to her. Does any of this make sense? Can it possibly take over 2 months to issue a new passport in Thailand?
