  1. I'm sure that if you ask any hotel exec or an a/c engineer here in TH what legionella bacteria is,

you will me stared back with a pair of lamb eyes and a complete look of bewilderment... Aray Wa?

Just as if you asked most doctors how a turbofan engine operate, they would look you with complete bewilderment.

Western people (read: anglos) knowledge of legionnaire's is not based on some enlightened education system, but a result of media hysteria who loves any scary story to lock in eyeballs and their favourite subject is of course the next mega-contagion that's gonna kill your children.

Legionnaire's disease mostly affects old people, people who smoke or those who are immunocompromised. It can not be transmitted from person to person. It can be easily treated with antibiotic. So unless you are an old ass dude living in the jungle next to a solar-operated air-conditioner this is mostly a very low-risk disease.

  2. this will change nothing. if laws are passed, in 2 months it will not be enforced. people want their cheap stuff and the immigrants have no rights. police will continues to exchange silence for currency and it will be business as usual.

and before saying "slavery is illegal". well taxation is slavery so why isn't that illegal yet?

  3. I thought schools, and other buildings in the city, would have relied on municipal water sources. Hotels typically have large water tanks simply because the demand is heavy during certain peak hours but is it quite common for most dwellings to have their own reserves?

    And why?

Is the public water system pressure too low?

    Thanks

Not really....but the water from the Municipal Source, may not be treated to an acceptable standard as well. having your own storage tanks, you can treat the water by way of filters and additives etc...

We have Town water....but the wife will not let me connect it into the house for that reason.

actually, tap water is cleaner than half of bottled water on sale at stores.

tap water uses chlorine to destroy pathogens. bottled water doesn't due to the strong flavor imparted.

the only issue really is leaking pipe and dirty storage tank but I don't think there has ever been a case of anybody getting sick from tap water in BKK since the beginning of tap watering.

  4. oh please. act all indignant all you like but you all enjoy your really really cheap prawns here or overseas. you enjoy your cheap shoes and clothes from the slave factories in indonesia and india, your 'cheap' smart phones from the factories in china. At the end of the day, the african descendants of slaves in America are all better off than those left in Africa. The machinery of the free market is still the BEST at lifting the mass from poverty. Most of the thai business leaders these days are born to chinese immigrants who suffered much the same brutality when they came over here.

it is horrid yes but if you learn to look at the big picture, life is a struggle and we don't all get to be born in the UK and get to collect welfare money while sitting on our asses watching TV and coming over to Pattaya every other month for some bang-bang time.

  5. So much wild speculations in this thread.

Cutting the internet would hurt business very badly, which means it will hurt the supporters of the military and international interest, which would mean foreign scrutiny and it would hurt the economy long-term.

nothing brings in the UN like hurting the pockets of international corporations. remember the opium war where china had to give up hong kong? that was caused by the east india company losing money by having thier opiums confiscated. so unless thailand wanna give up phuket after the CIA discovered a secret stash of WMDs then no, there will be no turning off the internet.
