  1. Meetups are good, there are loads in BKK for various activities.

I would also suggest the activity route.

I am 35 and a farang lady, I spend most of my time training in Muay Thai and have met many friends that way, also never short of offers from the men too. Its a total Myth there is no interest in farang ladies in my experience...

  2. Well being a woman, and not being into women ( well unless ive had quite a lot of beers) I don't come here for them. I come to train in Muay Thai and go watch the fights.  I like Thailand, for the heat, the easy pace of life, mango sticky rice, and there is plenty of beautiful countryside.

There are downsides too, but everywhere has those.

I think the things I like here about it being laid back etc, would infuriate me if I lived full time, but for a holiday its good.

  3. If its racism you are concerned about, the UK is getting a lot worse....I think that is a worldwide problem. Its strange that now the world is more connected than ever, making it easier for us to learn about each other,  that people are becoming xenophobic..

    maybe familiarity breeds contempt...

  4. Hi All,

Just wanted to say a big thank you really. I know I've been on here and asked loads of questions...

So we got the entry permit to the UK, it didn't take long either, docs were dropped off in Bangkok on 21st December, and passport was delivered today by EMS. So just over 2 weeks.

The only slightly annoying thing is that when he was dropping the docs off the person at the desk, said he had to choose a date 3/4 months ahead!?? So he changed it now we have to wait 6 weeks before he can come here. But better that that none.

Anyway again thanks for all the advice.

Just in case anyone is wondering for their applications here is a list of what I handed in:

6 months bank statements with the last month printed off online statements

6 months wage slips from both my jobs

    Contracts from both my jobs

employers letter from both my jobs

    photos of my flat

    rental agreement

council tax bill-to prove i was sole occupier

    Marriage cert and translation

    Husbands Tabien baan and translation

    All the visa forms

Photocopies of my passport in my maiden name and married name showing all my stamps to and from Thailand

Photos/phone records of us ( kept the same load from previous visas)

    His English test cert

    TB test cert

    Cover letter from me

  5. Interesting, as my husbands passport does not have an exit stamps, so how do they know?

Honest is always the best policy, but I do feel its strange as others have mentioned, why not just issue visas for the time frame applied for?

Perhaps its one way they are trying to crack down on visas now.. Ms May has her immigration targets to whittle down..

This last visit my other half has stayed much longer than intended, but the next application is for settlement, and I explained in the letter I was planning on relocating to Thailand, but that my Mother is now terminally ill, so we changed our plans and he stayed to look after her so I'd hope it wouldn't be an issue.

  6. I thought that it was a year's worth of bank statements and pay slips. P60 as well.

No it's not, as another member has said it's six months worth of pay slips with the corresponding bank statements, a P60 isn't an actual requirement as the decision maker can grant the application without it, but it can be submitted if the applicant desires.

Excuse me for sounding dumb but if a P60 is not obligatory and only 6 months pay slips and statements are used then how do you verify that you are exceeding £18600 pa.

I take it they are trusting on the letter from the employer. Which begs the question why does a self employed person have to supply a years worth, if say they are exceeding £50k pa. Does it matter whether this is over a year or 6 months? It seems that an employed person is trusted more than a self employed person.

I have no idea why being self employed makes things more difficult. The reason I got a contracted job, was in case I needed to make an application for my husband for a visa- we were planning to settle in Thailand but circumstances changed, as I did not want the hassle of all the documents and extra evidence ( not to mention expense).

  7. Things are changing everywhere, not just Thailand. A few years ago, hardly anyone would admit to online dating, now everyone is on Tinder or whichever, and people have a lot more choice. Not many of my friends are married (female), they are more than happy looking after themselves, and getting a hook up whenever they feel like it. I think the internet in general the world over has made people more selfish, and has presented them with far too many options, but you can't stop 'progress' right?

  8. There is no point submitting my p60 as before February this year I was self employed, and am not submitting my tax return until next January, so it doesn't have all the information.

On the notes of the form it says 6 months if I have been with the same employer, which I have.

What I want to know is does my passport copy have to be certified? Also employers letter for my husband?

  9. Hi everyone,

I am getting together everything for my Spouse visa and I just wanted to make sure I’ve got all the documents needed. Appointment is in 2 weeks. We are submitting:

    Me:

Colour photo copies of current passport all pages( does this need to be certified?)

Black and White copies of old maiden name passport ( this has a lot of the visa stamps in to prove our relationship)

    6 months bank statements

    6 month wage slips

    Employment contract

    Employers letter

    Tenancy Agreement

Council Tax Bill ( saying I’m sole occupier)

Photos of property inside and out

Selection of photographs/messages/phone records to prove relationship

    Marriage Certificate and translation

    Sponsorship undertaking form

    Cover letter from me

    Him:

    Passport

    Tabien Baan and translation

    Passport Photos

    TB Test Cert

English test cert-although I think I just need the electronic number from that..

Does he need a letter or anything from his employer? I would of thought as he is leaving (potentially) it wouldn’t matter…

Is there anything I have left out? Am trying not to over whelm the application with too many documents-that’s already a lot as it is!

    Thank you

    Nina

  10. Dear All,

I am after some advice. I have everything I need for the Spouse visa, except hit a snag on the accommodation front, when speaking to my landlord( its a very big agency in London), they told me that I can have whom I like staying at the property with me, however they will not write a letter stating that as it is not their policy to get involved in immigration issues ( apparently it has been this way since 2011). They said my rental agreement has all the property info including the size so I just should send that. Obviously I know this isn't going to fly to with ECO so any ideas for options? Ort supporting documents that would be acceptable?

My Mother ( who owns her house) has said that she is more than willing to write a letter saying that we can live with her and provide mortgage details. Would this be the best option? however as I do not currently live there would this be a problem?

Also do I need to provide details of my Husbands job in Thailand?

    Thanks as always,

    Nina

  11. I control the money in our house. My Thai husband doesn't comprehend how to save. he gives me everything and gets an allowance. He admits to not being great with money. But we never argue? If he wants something there's never a problem,

  12. Access to nursing courses in the UK is something they should address. Whilst they do help with funding unless you have support from elsewhere is impossible to to live off it, and you cannot get part time work as unlike most students you are working 40+ hours a week in a placement in a hospital.

Immigrants from non eea countries cannot get any public funds for 5 years, non eea I'm less sure of but it's by no means instant.

I feel sad and often confused by all the homeless eea immigrants here, how can be being homeless in London be better than their home country?

At the moment in the news immigration is being discussed daily. The general tone is that everyone wants to come here because life is easy and they get handouts, which is the attitude of the general public too I think. Stupid scaremongering.

If they examined the realities of our system I think they'd be surprised. It's not easy. And far from what I'd call an open door policy.
