  1. Dettrol hand sanitising gel might do it.

It comes in a small bottle you can keep in your pocket and has a pleasant smell that lasts. When you bring your nails to your mouth, the smell will remind you to stop.

It has helped me to remember to stop touching my face & nose to help prevent catching colds.

  2. Hi!

Sorry to hear you are having a bit of run-around. I would take it to the Apple shop on Soi Siri Monkalajarn, off of Hui Kaow Road.

Go NW on Hui Kaow Road from the Old City.

    Turn left on Siri Monkalajarn.

In about 250 meters, you will see the Apple service center on your right.

You can speak directly with the manager, his name is Peter; VERY friendly and capable.

They may need to order parts, if it's an older or rare machine.

    I hope this helps!

  3. I've heard mixed reviews about the campus near the train station, but have noticed that they are about to open a "Lanna" campus, south of the city, just north of Hangdong. Does anyone have contact information for that campus? I tried the numbers on the brochure attached to an earlier post, but only get routed through digital switchboards constantly, and never can talk to a human....

  4. The REAL FORCE ... for Productivity, Security and Performance is called "Mac OS"

i stop using windows at NT 4.0 already .. and so far it did not getting better at all until vista :)

YES!! Mac OS has always been the most stable and most reliable... It blows the mind to think that Windows dominates in numbers of users. EVERYONE has so many problems with it, yet they keep using it. Why, when there is such a superior option? I have never understood it!

  5. :) whats so funny is the banner adds on this post build a home in Thailand

never been a good idea but its getting worse not only do you have to screen your partner but the Thai government is becoming more anti western month buy month

Vietnam is booming compared to the backward ideas on investment from Thai government

It's funny that you mention Vietnam! I had never been there and went for the first time, three weeks ago. What a wonderful time I had!

I went to Saigon and was SOOOOOO impressed! Everyone spoke some basic English, and most people had excellent English skills. The people were educated, neat, clean, and bustling with conversation and activities. The city was clean, well organized, well maintained and VERY western friendly. It was a joy traveling around the city (they gave me a free map at the airport when I got off the plane!); there were signs in English everywhere and everyone was helpful and smart. The taxies were cheap and the drivers were all very competant, friendly and spoke English. The place was BOOMING with tourists! I had not seen tourists like that in 5+ years. That is where all the tourists are going!

The tourists and foreigners are not fleeing here because of swine flu or messed up baggage at the airport. They are fleeing here because this place is being run into the ground and is making less sense by the day. Life is not very comfortable here anymore, and there are greener pastures. Vietnam is looking pretty good, and I plan to vacation there again soon to start making decisions about my next step.

  6. Ours was a P5 student, male. I do not have any info about the child's prior medical history, or present condition.

From reports that I have read, most of the fatalities have been among people that were in poor health to begin with.

I will post any new information I receive, as long as it is appropriate to do so.

I do have friends who have children enrolled at PRC, and can confirm its closure.

  7. No, all you need is a Certificate of Residence available at CM Immigration for 500 Baht. Bring copies of your passport, visa, departure card as well as your rental contract and 1 or 2 photos - I think 1 is sufficient.

Or if you have a work permit you can use that instead of the Certificate of Residence.

    /Claus

I only had my work permit, doctor's letter, US driver's license, and passport, and mine went through without a hitch. I just renewed last year and got my five year one.

    Hope that helps!

  8. I am an employee at Montfort College, Primary School Campus. I received a telephone call from my manager 10 minutes (4:56pm) ago saying that Montfort College, Primary School Campus will be closed until Tuesday, July 21st, due to a new confirmed case of swine flu.

I am not stating any personal comments in this post; I am simply passing the news along so that any parents who have children attending that campus can contact their child's teacher and confirm.

I hope this information is helpful to any parents trying to plan their lives for the next 7 days.

    Take care!

  9. Update on swine flu in the uk.

The uk now has more swine flu cases than mexico, The death toll doubled to 14 yesterday and there are 43 critical cases.

There are health advertisements on the UK radio, saying that unless in a relatively higher risk group i.e very young, very old, diabetic, immuno-surpressed etc, the treatment is to stay at home, drink fluids and take paracetamol. They are even talking about letting people have 2 weeks sick leave without a doctors note.

Meanwhile, we have the Thai govt planning to issue anti-virals to 2.4mn people? I don't watch Thai TV too much, or listen to the radio, but is there a campaign going on to educate the Thai population about what to do?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/swine-fl...h-problems.html

Epidemic levels of infection - defined as 200 cases per 100,000 people - are expected to be reached imminently in parts of the country including London. Official projections indicate that the number of cases could touch 100,000 a day by August.

Britain now has the third highest number of cases of swine flu in the world after America and Mexico, where the virus was first reported.

I still do not see any numbers that are ALARMING. How are these numbers any different than any other flu? And how is the morbidity any worse than any other flu? HPV is probably spreading faster than this, and there are strains of that that WILL kill you!

I do not understand how they can say that this one is going to mutate any moment and get worse. Compared to what? Why are they not saying that about every virus out there? Quick! Let's gather up anyone with a virus and quarantine them because they are harboring potential mutant strains!!

I minored in public health in college, and everything I am seeing is over blown and over rated... when does the insanity end?

  10. first , if you have not seen it, watch thaksins BBC interview where when asked if he paying the reds, and say NO then watch this video presentation he made to the reds:

particularly watch for his reaction at the 40 second marker and his fumbling afterwards

anyone who defends Thaksin and says he does not lie can watch him shoot himself in the foot right here

i have sent it to the BBC and CNN already

Sounds like he is belittling the cash handouts the government has been making, claiming that under him you won't need to be lining up with your beggars bowl. I guess it could be called a slip up as it has been misinterpreted. Even with the limited context given, it does not seem to be about paying protesters.

That's what it sounds like to me and my family too... I think he is referencing cash handouts rumored to have been given to PAD protesters, saying, basically, that with him in power, the people would not need to have to do that in order to make a living. I think he is scorning it, not offering it, IMHO....

  11. That has got to be one of the worst interviews I have ever seen!

No information was gained, nothing was really explained, issues were glossed over or completely avoided, and discussion was almost nonsensical. The interviewer did not steer the interview at all, and seemed unfamiliar with the story and history, leading to this muddled waste of air time. I really wonder what that was supposed to accomplish.

  12. Have done Chiangmai-Bangkok a number of times in a Caribean. No problem keeping up with all traffic.

Just check with the agent, Ariyakit, out towards Sansai how many more years they'll have parts for as they don't make them/sell them new any more. Good, inexpensive service from the agent - friendly people too. We had a Caribbean and then a Vitara for may years.

    CMMCB

Thanks for all the good info and anecdotes. I feel very informed for making my decision!

  13. I'm thinking of buying one off a friend who is selling theirs. They pretty much say the same as above, but my question is, if you wanted to run between Chiangmai and Chiangrai, once every two to three weeks, would it be ok?

  14. There might be a person with your exact same name, similar date of birth & some glinch in the system. Not very convienant for you. Have you ever had problems previously with vehicle licensing or registration, back home?

When I went back to the States for 6 weeks, in June and July of 2008, I took a domestic flight to see some relatives. When I checked in, the clerk acted strangely and disappeared for a while. When they finally returned, with a supervisor in-toe, they explained to me that someone with the same name as myself was wanted. They had me fill out a form that would supposedly help them immediately differentiate between me and this other guy in the future.

I have since taken 2-3 domestic flights within Thailand, having returned to work in September. Thus-far, I have had no problems or hassles. I know that this is a slightly different situation than yours, but it might help shed some light on one possibility for them holding your passport.

Have you gotten it back yet? Has there been a resolution?

  15. Well, I was out and about again, starting at 7pm doing errands, and Hangdong Rd. was shut down for about 15 minutes, until a 15-20 vehicle motorcade with two pale yellow Benz' went through, and turned up towards Samoeng, which would seem to indicate that members of the Royal Family are visiting.

    Interesting!

  16. Hi,

I just drove home from work - I mork out near Samoeng. I took the Hangdong-Samoeng Road home, and every 2-3km, there was a police truck, with at least two officers, each, dressed to the hilt, stationed on the side. It was kind of creepy!

There must have been at least 12 stations in all, each with 1-2, sometimes three officers, again, every 2-3 km. I've never seen this before. Anyone have an idea what is going on? I was wondering if some VIP was visiting the area....

Any info would be really nice!

    Thanks!

  17. Snakes I've seen: In November, my daughters and I were walking back from a swim at a waterfall near Samoeng, when I dam_n near stepped right on a 2m long king cobra. Fortunately, my brother in law "heard" it and grabbed me right before I stepped on it. It seemed shy of us, and we cut it a wide distance as we shimmied past, as it did us. Beautiful snake, and thankfully, we caught it in a good mood.

If you head out on the Hangdong-Samoeng road, their are many waterfalls there that are fine for taking a dip, but again, you are in a tropical wilderness, so you may not be alone and must show respect to the hosts!

If you want a really nice, quite dip and work out, there is a NICE pool and gym at Kwun Viang Village, southeast of town, but it is a little far. It's near where I live, and I think it's really top-notch.

  18. Currently having cancer spots in my bladder burned off by laser every three months. Chemo has not eliminated the need for this surgery so it will be an on going proccess for the rest of my life. If not then it will eventually kill me. Treatment currently done in the USA. What treatment would I expect to find in Thailand and possible cost? My Thai wife and I expect to be in Thailand March 2009. I am an American and hope to retire there. We have family scattered from Bangkok to Khorat. Do the VA hospitals still exist in Japan? Had thought that visiting them when needed would be an option. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about your condition. It sounds painful and discomforting.

I was wondering if they had ever checked any of the growths for HPV DNA or RNA?

I know in women who suffer from cancers that are HPV linked, there are some HPV antiviral drugs that can be given at the same time as the treatment for the tumor, and it may produce a better result. You may want to speak with your oncologist or a virologist in the States before you leave in March.

I'm not sure if this helps you at all, but it's just a thought that occurred to me when I read your post. Good luck!

  19. Did a bit of research on this, and only found it in BKK, and a huge range of prices, better to get it done in Singapore if you have the chance.

Definitely can't afford that on my salary, but sounds nice....

I'm going to be lucky if I can even afford my share of the costs after my medical benefit kicks in, providing that one of the hospitals on my network offers this. :o

  20. most interested in hearing more - tonsils have been bad this season.

Havent heard of this treatment - do you have any links??

Here is the link to the discussion for a medical center in Bangkok that does it: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Laser-Tonsil...ov-t216884.html

And here is a useful info link I found: http://www.entmags.org/Different_ways_of_r...ing_tonsils.asp

I am going into an ENT at Chiangmai Ram tomorrow, to see what procedures they offer and their prices. From other things I'm reading on the web, I'm pretty sure I want the laser ablation method. Now finding a place that has it, that is on my medical plan.... :o

  21. Well guys, One of the reasons I brought it up is I fly ultralights here on a regular basis and if you saw the general smog over the city from the sky, it is something like living covered in a blanket of the stuff. It was not like that even a few years ago, it was visibily less for a lot more of the time. I can also feel it in my chest at a lot of the time which I did not do before . There is certainly an element of haze to it, but thats just the veneer

There was a news clipping last week (or the week before?,,,,, in the Bangkok post or the Nation that the pollution in Chiang Mai is much worse at night time then during the day,,, and the level of pollution was higher then normal....

IMHO..after five years of living here its been worse each year,,,,,,,,,,,, the burning of garbage along the canal rd going out towards Hang Dong is non stop 24/7 ...

That's where I live - it's terrible! Absolutely noxious as I try to get to work and back on my bike each day.

I am new to CM, and am really surprised that that is not properly regulated in an area such as this. I hear tourists shocked and complaining about it too - not good after the travel disasters in Nov. and Dec. With the uncontrolled, increasing pollution all over the kingdom, and the bad rap from the airport shutdown, I think they are really cutting their own economic throats, IMHO.
