I am surprised that the US Embassy would release information to a Thai i.e family had contacted the US embassy and understood that Hall was using a fake passport and besides was on overstay. Which means they are not complying with there own Data Protection policy.

Cultural racism & bigotry. Unfortunately alot of the 'quality' tourists think that because of the colour of their skin they have some type of moral high ground when it comes to others committing equally atrocious acts, even sometimes when its less offensive than those committed by their own kind. Very serious problem in todays world and society and needs to be dealt with. I think that's why you see more vicious and vulgar crimes being committed against majority races because of the impunity they enjoy when they commit undesirable acts. It's a vicious circle that can only end when we acknowledge our biases & bigotry.

I visited Brisbane years ago and saw many racist attacks on minorities , just on the bus alone ! I spoke to some locals and they said it's a Xenophobic reaction, not based on anything other than those offenders being 'backwards'.
