- English Teaching. Was quoted at 20 to 30'000 Bht in this thread. That's what they earned some 15 years ago !!!! Now, we are are in 2016.
Pay is still in this range for most teaching positions. Especially outside of BKK.

That seems a massive shame to me. Do you have a degree yourself? Do you work in McDonalds or a bar? As an undergraduate I did, but as a graduate I got a job that paid well and stretched my skills. Then I became a manager.
Perhaps he is American. Because here, you do see LOTS of college grads in jobs that shouldn't need a degree.
Personally, I think it is because these companies know you probably have a huge student debt and will take any job you can get and will stick with it because you need the money.
It's really sad to see.

apparently 80% of English Teachers in Thailand are teaching without a degree , if the thai government tried to get rid of them all it would cause problems, according to this link.....
Firstly, that is a horrible article.
Secondly, the number is NOWHERE NEAR 80%. Especially now that the government has become more strict about these things.

No Money - No Honey !!!!
Really? Because I have many friends, and myself, who are married to Thais and I assure you, none of us have money.
Perhaps one should look beyond the end of the bar for a mate.

Meanwhile- and I must say this carefully as it may be deleted by moderators who for some reason agree with it, I hope that certain members who advocate and practise illegal child beating in Thai schools will be identified and treated appropriately by the law of the land.
Those teachers should be aware of parents who WON't go to the police first when dealing with something like this.

So so might you both. In the OP, it said she was 17.
The title says 16. Should we contact the original reporter now and see what he says?

I'm not one to push going to University. A university degree is becoming less and less necessary to succeed in life. However, if you want to go out and explore the world beyond being a tourist, a degree or special job skills are going to be very necessary. In this case, it would probably be worth the time and effort.

I can assure you that your views on the place, people etc. will change a lot, once you stay there long-term.
That is not necessarily true. I felt the same positive way about the Thais and Thailand after 10 years of living there.
Thailand surly isn't for everyone. Unfortunately, many don't realize this and they just sit around and bad mouth Thailand and Thais. If you stay away from these types of losers, you will be doing yourself and your feeling about Thailand a HUGE favor.
Not saying Khunpa is one of these people.

Once again, I fail to see how the teacher could have made those bruises. I think she did herself.
I guess you'd be an expert since you hit kids too.

Oh get a life. In English speaking countries they are talking about bringing back physical punishment.
Which countries?

"He put his hands up to defend himself and was attacked first. The student was showing disrespectful behavior."
So...let's get that straight!
He wants us to believe and feel compassionate for him, because...
- he was attacked by a 12 year old...
- ...girl...
- ...first...
- he had to defend himself, which lead to the visible signs on the girls body...but none on his...
- "disrespectful behavior" - whatever that means- can by no means be tolerated and has to be retaliated with physical violence...
I think, I got that right!
What a tool!
The girl is 16 or 17, not 12. Of course, still no reason to be hitting her.

According to NVP, a police clearance certificate is required for a spouse visa.
-
I am working on a visa for my wife to come to America. Part of the process is she has to get a police check in Thailand.
We are getting conflicting information about what she needs. For example, one cop is telling her she needs my passport. This doesn't seem right since the check has nothing to do with me.
She is in Hatyai and has to go to Bangkok, so we are trying to get this straightened out before she goes.
Anyone here with experience getting a police certificate for a Thai for a visa?
thanks.

Do Thai people look to the future ? Buy now ..cant pay in the future
Thai people look at the future as far as what they gonna have for their next meal. Everything beyond that is taboo.
It's funny, I got reprimanded once for calling someone an idiot on here but I see a ss ho les almost every day on here making comments like this about Thais with no word from the admins.
Why is that?

Geezus Gunna, get a new Thai teacher. The language does indeed have a future past and present tense.
It doesn't actually. There are means of adapting a sentence to achieve this however, such as saying gum lung (...ing) in front of a verb for present continuous tense, for a past tense meaning you have to insert a time aspect, as you do with the future. They also say laio to emphasise that something is in the past eg: gin laio or eat already. If someone returns from the market you say - go market come already.
If this isn't past tense, then what is it?

Is it my imagination or do a lot of Farang 'fall' out of windows and off buildings in Thailand?

Yeah, sure make a new law. I'm sure THIS ONE will be enforced.

What kind of visa do you need to do time in Thailand?

The biggest difference between Israel having nukes and Iran having nukes is that Israel has no intention of using them. They are a deterrent. Why are libs incapable of working this out for themselves?
Really? You believe this? Israel has made a career out of attacking and threatening their neighbors. Give them nukes and you can bet they will be used.
Israel is a terrorist state. Don't believe for a second they are peace loving and have the best interests of those around them in mind.

Extradition is almost always granted in cases like this. The U.S. and Thailand have a treaty, which basically reflects each country's belief that the other's legal system is fair and just enough to judge their citizen.
But how The United States of America could possibly consider Thailand's "Justice System" to be capable of true fact finding, is beyond me, or anyone with even a modicum of insight into Thailand's corruption and its easily paid-off officials.
For this pathetic U.S. Attorney, Stephanie Evans, to seek to turn over an American citizen, is appalling and frightening. For any government to turn over her citizens to a world-renowned corrupt government, one in the middle of martial law under a junta, is betrayal. It's akin to reverse treason.
You might consider the possibility that a country would sign a treaty like this, not because they actually believe the other's justice system is 'just', but because doing so makes it easier to get a hold of people trying to escape THEIR justice.

Good luck; but beware of the long con; appreciate the power that Thai parents have over their daughters; never be worth more dead than alive; and do not shoot the messenger.
Had to be a shit the first response.
OP. Your experience is not unique, or unappreciated. My wife, too, is a teacher and is interested in me as a partner, not a provider. Despite what some morons say, there are LOTS of women exactly like this.
Anyway.....
I'm an American. You will need a will in both English and Thai. The best way to go is get a notarized English version, then have it translated and officially stamped. You will also want to stipulate which one is to be followed if any ambiguities between the 2 should arise.
All pretty easy stuff.
