A roundabout woyld be fine anywhere else. They can't use them here. The concept of 'give way' and 'merge' are just totally unknown in the land of selfish drivers.

Yeah, too sad. The roundabout in Jomtien was good, although most of the people do not know how to use it, e.g. stopping in the middle of the roundabout to let people in or using an indicator when entering the roundabout instead of when leaving.

Whereabouts do you come from? (<< genuine question not trying to be a smartarse or anything.)

In most countries it is perfectly legal to take photographs in public places; an individual has no right over their image. If this wasn't the case newspapers etc. would be back to solely the written word.

As you said yourself: "photos of public places", which implicitly indicates a lot of people. I never argued on that.

The case here is about taking pictures of individuals (one or a few girls), which is not considered a public place.

If you take a straight down shot of walking street, not directly aiming at the girls, there is nothing to argue about that and I am with you and consider that a public place.

I don't know for which country you are talking about, but I think than in most countries you can take pictures of "the crowd" without any authorisation (that would be impossible to get anyway).

Authorisations "may" be required when you focus on only one or a few people, but I remember a discussion - on a ThaiVisa forum I think - where people were arguing that for Thai law no agreement is required even for a "small part of a crowd", not the same as an isolated/alone person/group.

Maybe best to ask rules/laws from people on the Photography forum...

Thats exactly what I meant. As far as I understood the OP he was talking about taking photos of the girls (1,2,3,4 girls). That number is not counted as a crowd.

  5. Regard the legal aspects:

You do indeed have the right to take a photo of the street, if it was empty. But thats about it.

You do not have the right to images of individuals, if they deny it.

They have the so called "Informational self-determination" or "right of privacy" or whatever you want to call it.

I guess there is something similar in Thailand.

Yes, they're on eatigo.com but I wouldn't say it's the best in town.

That would be ANWAR on THIRD road, if it's still there, which I think it is:

Sadly, my very favorite little Lebanese gem, Lebanese Gourmet, which was located in the current BOLLYWOOD KURRY location, closed for lack of support.

ANWAR is still there, but... since he had to move to the "hotel lobby" place the atmosphere isn't there anymore. Food is still good.

    Thanks very much. That's great.

Great, will be trying it out on the weekend. A well made Döner Kebab is always a good treat, however rather difficult to find in Pattaya.

Döner King used to be good, but it is horrible in the low season.

  8. Hi guys,

we are looking for like-minded people who would like to join some MTG games. We generally meet in Tukcom (South Pattaya) on the weekend to play some T2 games etc. There is a card store on the 4th floor where people meet and play. However, most of the players there play diffferent games. We would like to do some booster drafts, but need additional players. If you are interested, please feel free to join. I happily provide more details, just reply or send a private message.

I have just discovered the soap series Club Friday on Youtube. It has English subtitles (at least the 2 programs I checked had).

They talk so fast and pronounce so unclearly  it is hard to pick out individual words. But it's how Thai people speak conversationally. I can easily follow formal Thai in news programs (e.g Voice of America)  but this is a real challenge for me.

The club friday shows are exactly what I was looking for. "Difficult", but the typical day-to-day speed/pronounciation of thai people.

A google search and a google map search comes up empty.  I guess I'll head out today and look for it on Soi 18 hopefully.

Did you find the place in sai18? I might be heading out there tomorrow. :D

  11. For a week or so I am having unstable connections to hosts outside of Thailand (e.g. Europe/US).

Connections are slow sometimes, loading gets canceled resulting in some browser errors like

    This site can’t be reached

    ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE

No, it is definately not the hosts.

A simple refresh mostly does it, but its getting more lately. Anybody else?

  12. I am looking for video material (news, series) Thai dubbed AND subbed. I found this old thread:

However, the links in that thread mostly dead. Besides, that thread is almost 6 years old. There must be new resources of that kind, e.g. youtube etc.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find them. I am unable to find a solid news video site with thai subtitles.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

  13. Important topic and I have a clarifying questions:

    The first requirement states:

    1. Recommendation letter from the employer addressed to the Embassy (stating about
the employment and visa application) and be accompanied with the certified copy
    of the endorser's ID

Just to be sure, what is exactly meant with "certified copy of the endorser's ID "?

Translation from my Homecountry ID (not passport) to thai language by a CTA and then stamped by my respective embassy?

  14. it really is a good question OP, but sometimes things can not be explained logically.. because emotions or whatever are involved

I do not want to show off, but I am in my late twenties, have two university degrees including an MBA in international finance and asset management, besides having 6 years of full-time working experience.

Although I could earn way more money in the west, I chose to migrate to Thailand. Why? Difficult to explain, but long story short: Life is happening now and not in 20 years when I maybe accumulated "enough" money.

Then the question arises: What is enough money... And so on

If you are wealth and safety driven then stay in the west. For anybody else the world is waiting. >D

  15. changnaam,

unfortunately I am not doing any swimming at the moment due to the lack of decent sized pools ;-)

I thought about the pool at school 11 here in pattaya. I think it has a 25m or even 50m one.

However, I do not know if it is public. Futher, I read stories about a concrete company right next to the school polluting the air with concrete dust. The pupils in school have to wear masks :((

Acutally I dont want to inhale that on a regularly basis.

Maybe there is a hotel or something with a 25m pool that would be willing to let us swim. But I do not know of any. :(
