  1. Many thanks for all prompt replies and infos. Yes, I have a print-out of the confirmation of the appointment with queue-code which I will bring along on Monday, 26th October 2015. Last time I have been in Chiang Mai Immigration (also with an Online appointment which did work excellent) was last year on 28th October 2014 in the old crampt office located on the road between Airport Plaza and Airport Chiang Mai. Opposite the office and the road there is a petrol station where I did park my car for few Baht because parking place in front of the cramped office was always overcrowded. Now I am in Germany since end of April 2015 and plan to fly back to Chiang Mai end of October 2015. I do not know the new office at Promenada for my retirement extensions. Can anybody tell me please the full way description to go to this new office by car ... and whether there are enough parking lots availble ? I will travel by car and in the past I was coming from south town of San Pa Tong via Hang Dong on Hot - Hang Dong - Chiang Mai Road (main road no. 108) and turned left at intersection "Central Airport Plaza" direction airport. Thanks in advance for help preferable with road plan and/or website of the new Office at Promenada - if available.

  2. On 17th July 2015 I did arrange (100 days in advance) on Website: http://www.chiangmaiimm.com/en/queue-online.html under the "Queue Online Visa Extension Service" an appointment in Chiang Mai Immigration for Monday, 26th October 2015 to settle Extension of Temporary Stay of my Retirement Visa. The reservation was successfully confirmed with a queue code.

When checking my appointment today under Website: http://www.chiangmaiimm.com/en/queue-online.html or: http://www.chiangmaiimm.com/th/2011-11-25-13-53-13/285--queue-online.html this is not successful and the following failure notes are mentioned:

Does anybody know what is happing with this website ? Is there a new Website's name? Or did Chiang Mai Immigration meanwhile cancel their online service ? If so what will happen with my appointment ?

Or is the website only temporarily out of service ?

    I am working with 1) Google Chrome Version 44.0.2403.157 m and 2) Microsoft IE 10 Version 10.0.9200.17148.

Any advice is highly appreciated. Regards horstthaivisa

  3. I am German and have entered Thailand on 24.10.2014 with Re-Entry and Retirement Visa. On 28.10.2014 Chiang Mai Immigration did extend my Retirement Visa without any problems for 1 year valid from 30.10.2014 until 30.10.2015. My first 90 day report I did notice to Phuket Immigration (because at due date I was staying there) on 17.01.2015 without any problem. As per receipt of notification my next 90 day report is due on 16.04.2015. Due to coming Songkran closures today I tried to settle my 90 day report ONLINE because I read that some foreigners did it ONLINE successfully: I agreed to conditions on website: http://extranet.immigration.go.th/pibics/online/tm47/TM47Action.dohttp://extranet.immigration.go.th/pibics/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

and I did fill in the Online Form in all required fields ... entered correct CAPTCHA Password and submit, all in Microsoft IE. The answer I received was disappointing ... the following remark: For further information regarding The 90-day notification report service please contact the Immigration Branch Office in your residence area (which is now in San Patong near Chiang Mai). May be Online-system is working only for Bangkok residence ? Anyway I plan to leave Thailand with Re-Entry on 23.04.2015 which is 7 days after due date on 16.04.2015 for 90 day notification. Has anybody experience what will happen to fail 90 day notification by 7 days on date of leaving Thailand ?

  4. The area code for Chiang Mai, as far as I know, is mostly 053 and 66 53 followed by the actual phone number if phoning from abroad.

I do believe there is also an 052 exchange phone number for Chiang Mai, but the 052 is more often used by businesses and companies rather than residential lines.

Meanwhile I got confirmation that besides of usual area code 053 for Chiang Mai province there is used a new additional area code 052 but mainly for business customers. For example 3BB Shop in San Pa Tong south of Chiang Mai having landline phone number 052-000087.

So nobody should think that area code 052 is wrong and/or not existing.

  5. Some friends gave me phone numbers for Chiang Mai starting with phone "Area Code 052" ?

So far I know general phone "Area Code 053" only for Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Mae Hong Song etc.

Does somebody know whether there is a new (and perhaps additional ?) phone "Area Code 052" for a/m towns/provinces ?

  6. Yes, You should go there. I (German married with Thai sometimes living in San Pa Tong near Hang Dong) can recommend it. You have everthing nearby - not need to go to crowded Chiang Mai City. When I am in San Pa Tong I drive every day about 10 kms to nearby "The River" - Sai Nam Min Hotel (see enclosures) to swim about 2-3 kms in the pool for a daily fee of Baht 50 only. At present i mainly live at Karon Beach Phuket but I think to move to San Pa Tong soon.

  7. I am not belonging to the Microsoft-staff but I have my below Statement from the offical Microsoft Support LifeCycle Website: http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=de-de&x=6&y=11&c2=14019

where the LifeCycles for all Windows 7 Versions are clearly mentioned (in German language). If this data is valid for genuine Windows 7 sold in Germany only ... I do not know this. But anywhere else in the world - also in Thailand - ione should be able to find the official Microsoft Websites valid for your country where you did buy a genuine Windows 7 as I did in Germany.

My Statement: As far as I know (in Germany) Microsoft is providing "Extended Support" for Windows 7 until January, 2020. Only "Mainstream Support" (security and function updates) will end on 13th January, 2015.

  8. Since 11 years I am holding a „Non-Immigrant „O“-retirement Visum“ which I have to renew every year with Phuket Immigration in Thailand. For the time being I stay in Germany and I will fly back to Thailand to renew this visa. This time I will do this procedure with Immigration Office in Chiang Mai near airport. Some friends told me that there are quite a number of people waiting 2 or more hours outside prior to official opening hours and that officers handle a certain number of people only per day whilst the other waiting people are asked to come back next day (of course with same great number of people waiting there). I did understand from some media that it might be possible to arrange for an appointment (date and time) online or by E-Mail to avoid long waiting time and/or coming back again next day. Has somebody experience with that online- or E-mail-procedure ? If so please tell me how and what to do with name of Chiang Mai Immigration Website or E-mail-address to fix a date online. Does Immigration acknowledge the fixed date ?

  9. The subject of bank fees for outgoing and inward funds to be sent from abroad to Thai Banks seems not coming to an end although it is very easy:

All banks in the world have their own tariffs in their General Terms and Conditions showing also very clearly their fees for outgoing and inward

fund transfers. Money senders to Thailand should ask their home bank about fees for a "normal" SWIFT Money Transfer (in their home

currency) based on the condition of sharing fees: home-fees to be charged with home bank and foreign inward fees to be charged with the

bank in Thailand. The home fees are checkable/visible charged to the home account and inward fees charged by the bank in Thailand are not

extra revisable/checkable shown on the account but automatically (hidden) deducted from the incoming Baht amount before it is credited to the account.

Hence you should inform yourself about the not revisable (hidden) bank fees for inward transfers before you are sending money to your

Thai account. I understand from investigations with several banks that it is irrelevant whether more banks (than the sending and receiving bank)

are involved in the transfer, the valid tariffs remain valid only to be charged only one time regardless how many banks are involved in the transfer.

Customers of SCB - Siam Commercial Bank in Thailand can easily verify the inward fees here in Internet:

    http://www.scb.co.th/stocks/media/ratesfees/fcd-fee-en-55-1.pdf

For ex. EUR: SWIFT / Telex Other Fees (last column): Fee for inward remittance is 0.25% of the remitted value: Min. Baht 300, Max. Baht 500.

Knowing this you can roughly check whether inward fee deduction is correct by consulting SCB-Website: http://www.scb.co.th/scb_api/index.jsp

and make a note of the exchange rate in the column "Bank Buying Rates > TT" which is the acutal basis to convert transferred funds into Baht

to be credited to yout Baht account. Hence from the credited Baht amount the above mentioned inward fees are already deducted you have to

calculate back by "adding" the deducted (invisible/hidden) inward fees to the credited net-amount. And this gross-amount you have to devide

through the exchange rate "Bank Buying Rates > TT" resulting to your ordered amount in your own currency. I am German and I transfer

money online via "NORMAL SWIFT" on share fee-basis from my German bank (fixed outgoing fee is EUR 15,00 upto money transfers of EUR 12.500,00) to my SCB-account (inward fee 0,25 p.c. - minimum Baht 300 but maximum Baht 500) and this procedure takes maximum 15 hours during banking days until the money is credited to my account about which I receive a free SMS-Info from SCB to my Thai Mobile Number (wherever I stay in the world) included in the SMS-Service for Baht 199 per year. If you experience deviations in fees you should intervene immediately with banks to provide their schedule of fees and to explain why deviating from the tariffs in their price conditions.

  10. I have Thai driving licences for bike and car over 20 years to be renewed/reissued every 5 years (they expire on birthdates) and I did the renewal tests in Phuket and Chiang Mai. I cannot find any difference beween test difficulty in Phuket or in Chiang Mai. But what I can very well judge is the driving style on Phuket or in Chiang Mai because in both places I drive bike and car for more than 20 years: In Phuket the driving behaviour is much more rude, reckless and chaotic than in and around Chiang Mai.

My Thai wife coming from Chiang Mai (having Thai driving licences for over 25 years valid lifelong) did learn in Germany for obtaining the German/EU-driving licence for about 2-3 months (less practice because she can drive, more theoretical knowledge) and she is shocked that in Thailand the legal rules are still so easy to obtain a driving licence in consideration of about 30.000 road deads in Thailand ranking as third bad in the world with Lybia, Eritrea and Namibia.

  11. Your bank outside Thailand (Jersey) must have a schedule of prices and so do have all Banks in Thailand. This Schedule of Prices is public visible in each bank all over the world and can be found on their webistes too. I am German and I send regularly money from my bank account in Germany to my saving account in Thailand to finance holiday and over winter stays. My German bank charges to my account in Germany a fixed fee (Euro 15,00 up to transfer sums of Euro 12.500,00) as mentioned in their schulde of prices. The bank in Thailand (SCB) charges a service fee of 0,25 p.c. on the converted incoming Baht amount to be directly deducted before crediting the net amount to my saving account, but minimum is Baht 300 and maximum is Baht 500 as also fixed in their schedule of prices. This system only works when giving following instructions in the money transfer order to my bank in Germany: Domestic fees (in Germany) to be charged to my German account and foreign fees to be charged by the foreign money receiving bank (in Thailand) on my saving account in Thailand. You should verify which bank did charge you extra Pound 20 and claim for compensation credit if this is not complying with their schedule of prices.

  12. Thanks for this info which confirms my knowledge. But there are some "know-it-all"-Farang-People living in Thailand who want to know this (and everything) better ... but this is nonsense. Regarding visa I have no problem: I am in possession of an annual retirement visa (no visa runs but 90 days announcements as usual). This visa is renewed without problems every year when showing sufficient Pension-income.

  13. On 1st August 2001 in Germany the law of establishing a same-sex "Civil Union" i.e. Registered Life Partnership (German name: Eingetragene Lebenspartnerschaft as per LPartG) with Civil Registry Offices was launched. In Germany this new law allows partners of same gender/sex:

    1) To marry legally when they have an official registered residence and/or domicile in Germany.

    2) To marry also partners of other nationalities (Non-German) when the non-German person has an unlimited residence and settlement permit for Germany.

Question: When the same gender partners are for example German and Thai and they want to live together in Thailand:

    1) Do the Thai laws and/or authorities legally approve/recognize this "German Same-Sex Civil Union"-contract to be valid (like an official "marriage) in Thailand ?

    2) If yes, how and where to get it registered in Thailand ?

    3) Which legalized documents in which languages are requred ?

    4) Where it will be registered, Amphoe Office ?
