I also use swift transfer from Australia every fortnight, using NAB. They charge flat rate of $10 and also cover any costs incurred by the receiving bank, my case Bangkok bank.

Not convenient for everyone but I don't keep money here .. I get my OA multi entry in Oz.. Could be a problem for someone getting an extension here.. but.. what goes up comes down.. what goes down comes up again... a few years ago I was down to 19 Bt to the $Au.. then it went up again.. so on and on it goes.. GDP figures today were encouraging.. stopped the slide for the moment.. I think fingers crossed.. Much depends on what happens if the US.. the economy is booming at the moment.. but who knows where Trump's war on the planet will lead.. ??
Yes you would be a rich man if you could predict currency fluctuations. The reason I quoted 300,000 Bhat in the bank is based on the Aus pension for people living overseas, converted to Baht at the current rate is 513,000 Baht per year, so you would need that amount to reach the 800,000 Baht qualifying amount with a small buffer. That's if you're relying solely on the pension.

The major problem is going to qualifying for the retirement extension using income if relying on the Aus. pension plus a bit of money in a Thai bank account,( needing about 300,000 Bhat at the moment.) So if the dollar drops much further it's going to make it difficult for some, unless in the unlikely event the Aus pension gets a substantial boost....

Readily available from many electronic stores in Bangkok. Well known brands.

I send money monthly to Thailand from Australia. Transfer from NAB to Bangkok bank, last week the rate was 23.6 Baht to the dollar, been under 24 for couple of months now. With the NAB if you transfer in the currency of the country you're sending it to, they charge a flat rate of $10 and also cover the costs of the bank you're sending it to.

Yup, one of the pitfalls of the Elite visa !, seems ironic to me that someone who shells out a lump of cash for a 5 year visa should be labelled as a tourist .
I don't know if that is correct. My son has an Elite visa and obtained a 5 year car and bike license no problems. I think because an Elite visa is also a long stay visa with 12 month extensions, different from a tourist visa.

What is the difference in the TEV and a regular retirement visa? Sounds like the regular visa is cheaper and much easier..
Probably the main use of it is for people that are not old enough to qualify for the retirement visa. Also it allows you unlimited reentrys, handy if you do a lot of traveling for business or pleasure.

You do not have to leave the country every year, you simply go to immigration and apply for a one year extension before the admitted until date on the entry stamp, cost 1900 baht. You can stay continually in Thailand for five years if you wish. You do not need a reentry stamp if you leave the country, when you return you automatically get another 12 months.

There a lot of Kingston Flash Memory Cards out there to be counterfeit.
Here in Thailand, it's easy to see if a Kingston Flash Memory is counterfeit. Here is a typical cover of a counterfeit Kingston Flash Card:
All of the sellers of Kingston Flash Card, having Stickers or printed Logos of the Company on the Flash Card covers, and if those are failed, that's counterfeit stuff. Beside of that, the Read/Write speed of those counterfeit Flash Cards is Class 2 or 4, never Class 10!
And here is a link to the app: http://www.heise.de/ct/Redaktion/bo/downloads/h2testw_1.4.zip
I bought 3 Kingston 64gb cards on Lazada, all fake only about 8gb available. Purchased 64gb SanDisk fulfilled by Lazada no problems. So I think that's the way to go. Certainly give those memory sticks , 1TB & 2TB, I've seen for sale a big miss obviously fake.

The average age Aussie pensioner unless they have additional funds will find it almost impossible to legally meet Immigration requirements.
In the case of Married to a Thai lady the average monthly Pension is border line. drop down to 23 baht to the AU$ and one is below the border line and can not legally qualify for a marriage or retirement extension.
Thus for those with no additional funds 23 bath to the $AU is the Crunch line
and Yes I am in that situation P.I is looking good at the moment
Same here, if the $Aus gets down below 23 Bhat and camps there which looks highly probable at the moment, that'll be it for a lot of Aussie's relying mainly on the pension.

I look forward to the pool table ban. If you've ever tried to carry one, they ain't light. Be great to see the BiB struggle to lift one.
Exactly, there's more gambling on pool games than darts, that would probably include loser paying for beers.... ?

When you apply for the pension you will need proof of address in Australia, if you're travelling around Australia you will need a drivers license which will require proof of address anyway. So a license could be used partly as proof of address, Medicare card, also if buying a van, rego will need an address, so this could be used as proof also. Once the two year qualifying period is up you can return the next day to Thailand to live permanently or wherever. After 6 weeks your pension will be adjusted, unless you tell them before you leave you are living permanently overseas then it will be adjusted the day you leave. Check website for all details.

Not new, this rule came in September 2000.

As I've seen done in other places in Thailand, they should just invest in some witches hats and place them across the driveway on market days. It seems to work where I've seen it done.

Try the Thai consultant in Hobart Tasmania. That's where l got my non O visa my son also, and we were living in Melbourne at the time. All done through the post, very quick service about 4 days turn around using express courier. Very friendly and helpful staff, spoke to them on the phone, and they advertise they're cheapest in Australia. Check out their website.

In Australia if a conviction is 10 years or more ago and the time served is 30 months or less, the conviction is considered "spent" and is sealed and can only be viewed by applying to a Australian court. So a conviction wouldn't be visible on looking at a normal data base by immigration or police.( there are some exceptions) Check Aus. Government website for full info.

Sorry but that is incorrect.
My brother worked at a dance hall called "The Beach House" in Sydney back in 1962 and he was only 18. There was some trouble there one night and he told someone he was a police officer to try to stop things and someone reported him to the police and he was arrested and charged with impersonation and it cost him 20 pound fine in court and when he went for his security license in 2000 he had to supply a police check and it was listed on that. So all convictions remain on the police data bank.
Sorry this is correct, I should have said to be completely accurate a conviction becomes what's known as spent, and becomes sealed and is not visible on a normal data base but can be seen with an application to a court. So it's true to say convictions are not completely wiped but certainly are not visible to immigration or police in other countries.

In Australia criminal convictions are wiped from your record after 10 years if the sentence was 30 months or less. Not sure about US.

Just another question on this subject. I'm leaving the country on the day my 90 day report is due, do I need to report( it falls on a Saturday anyway) before I go? My guess is not, but just to be sure though. Be back in a month..

Also, as I did , go to manage internet connections and make the IP you are using a metered connection. Windows will not automatically update over on this type of connection.

Been using ilikeHD+ for 18 months now, very happy with the service and quality ( improved greatly since I first joined). Many packages to choose from 100 Baht up, I'm paying 500Baht a month for a choice of as many sports, news, movies , docos, channels you could possibly want, from UK, Aus, USA ( Thai channels are free). Good quality 720 mainly, very little buffering these days, really great service, reply within minutes, app available for android, I have on my phone and android box. I used it while on holiday in Aus as well. But for other than live tv you can't beat Kodi.

Yes I think those stats are way off. The latest figures I could find from Australia estimate that there are more than 25,000 Aussie's living in Thailand, and I'd think there's more from UK and America than that.
