  2. Hi giddyup and KittenKong – Good question! We are new business and frankly it has taken time to roll-out the more than 10,000 vehicles which we now offer under our Best Price Guarantee for Safe Drivers. We had to pick a starting place and that was sedans/hatches. We will offer pick-ups registered as private vehicles starting next month, September. We do not plan to offer pick-ups registered for commercial use, but focus on delivering our mission which is to offer the best possible value and service for personal/private insurance.

  4. Hi canopus1969  - We agree, a good broker earns their commission and cheap can also come at the cost of service. We are different because we do not provide a blanket low cost. Instead, we believe that safe drivers should not subsidize unsafe drivers and we try to reward safe drivers with better prices. In terms of service, we promise 30 minutes to the accident scene, or we will go on the hook and compensate our customers.

We don’t impose deductibles at the time of claim unless you wanted one when you bought your policy. Customers can choose our authorized garages for repairs or their own garage (e.g. dealer garage), even for older cars (most other don’t offer Dealer Garage for older cars). We dedicate a single claims executive to personally handle your claim from start to finish and we keep you updated on the status of your claim. We have adopted modern conveniences like the internet and smart phones, but ours is a human business dedicated to delivering personal service, especially at time of claim. We really hope we earn a chance to do that.

  5. Bangkok - Statistics released by Thailands information technology professional organization, the Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI), revealed that smartphone penetration in Thailand is now more than 25 percent, and expects the rapid expansion to continue.

Smartphone sales in Thailand grew 33 percent in the first quarter of this year, and 63 percent of the total mobile handset market came from smartphones during this period, with basic feature phones accounting for the rest.

PayPal estimates e-commerce usage in Thailand at almost 15 billion baht in 2013, while OurMobilePlanet says that 51 percent of Thai smartphone users have used their devices to purchase goods.

A new addition to the e-commerce trend is the availability of car insurance through mobile devices. DirectAsia.com Thailand recently launched mobile car insurance quotes and real time purchasing through its secure mobile website.

Designed for smartphones, the mobile website lets 13 million Thai car owners check car premiums and buy insurance on the go. They can also tap-to-call the companys customer care team from the mobile website, something the company says is proving very popular.

    mobile_website_1.jpg

Checking car premiums anywhere by smartphone only take a few minutes and its a convenience customers really like. Most smartphone users want to talk to someone to verify the quote and its easy to just tap to call, says Michael Parker, chief executive DirectAsia.com Thailand.

Consumers are very connected and are sophisticated in their smartphone habits. If we can provide quick quotes anywhere, anytime and personal service at just a tap, we are engaging with consumers on their terms, he says.

Car insurance information, quotes and buying are available through smartphone at www.directasia.co.th  in both Thai and English. Secure payments can be made by credit card, or at Counter Service locations like 7-Eleven, by providing details sent by DirectAsia.com to your smartphone.

  6. DirectAsia.com becomes first insurance website to be certified DBD Verified by Department of Business Development

Bangkok - DirectAsia.com Thailand has received verification for its website www.DirectAsia.co.th from the Department of Business Development (DBD), the first and to date only insurance website in Thailand to receive this certification.

DBD Verified certifies the reliability of DirectAsia.com Thailand for conducting electronic business operations.

DirectAsia.com Thailand registered with DBD in 2013, but DBD Verified, which was confirmed on 23 May 2014, indicates a higher level of reliability than that of DBD Registered.

Certification allows DirectAsia.com to display the DBD Verified Trustmark on its website and on printed and other materials.

"The DBD Verified benchmark on the website will guarantee trust for customers because it shows the business has passed the strict process of information checking and also that the security system of the website has been checked by a government office. In event of any problem or uncertainty, customers can contact DBD to easily resolve the problem," says Whichai Phochanakij, deputy director- general of the Department of Business Development.

DBD Verification is a big endorsement of trust in DirectAsia.coms e-commerce platform and will give consumers greater confidence to go online for car insurance, says Michael Parker, chief executive officer of DirectAsia.com Thailand.

We are proud to be the first insurance website to achieve the DBD Verified certification.

DBD Verified is awarded to those e-commerce businesses like DirectAsia.com that not only comply with the rules but also maintain the standards necessary for business sustainability.

Following Hong Kong and Singapore, DirectAsia.com launched in Thailand late last year offering car owners clear information in Thai and English, fast quotes and instant coverage 24/7 via the website. They can also get expert help from the companys contact centre.

  7. Hi Jesse and Dr Turner,

You’ll find that our coverage is equal or higher than leading insurers, we work hard to make sure this is the case. You will also be able to see the policy terms & conditions on our website before you buy. They are posted here in our public pages: http://www.directasia.co.th/en/car-insurance/policy-documents/

Through DirectAsia.com you can choose a Dealer Garage/My Workshop option, which allows you to repair wherever you prefer. You can also choose to have repairs made at one of 200 authorized Panel Garages around Thailand. With Panel Garages, we do our utmost to manage a quality and proximity balance. We are also working hard to get Panel Garages to provide a 12 month guarantee on repairs and can offer this already with 20 garages in Bangkok and 30 garages upcountry, with more to come. Wherever you want your car repaired, a dedicated DirectAsia.com claims service personnel can contact the garage for you and provide service until the repair is complete.

  8. Hi Valentine, we apologise for any inconvenience to you. Our process is to not be intrusive with calls and to only contact people who want to be contacted. Currently, you can get a quote on our website without leaving any contact details. However, once all details are confirmed and you leave contact details, we then confirm and save the quote and can provide follow-up service. What we did after seeing posts here, is we searched all our saved quotes in the period and only found one Mitsubishi Attrage, with contact details but no name. Between no name there and aliases used on this forum, we have misunderstood that we contacted you. We will earnestly try to find a better way to meet the challenge of providing quotes and service without being intrusive and while leaving our customers in control of their buying process. We hope this may help explain and appreciate the time you took to check out our new service.

  9. Hi Satcommlee – Prices will refine when you provide more details - up or down, it really depends on the details. We ask extra questions to give more accurate pricing and provide savings for safe drivers. Generally the reason for a price to increase or decrease should be fairly logical, e.g. if you add drivers the price may increase or if you declare you’ll be driving less, the price should decrease.

  10. Hi Amecth and JesseFrank and Richard_smith237 We are working hard to provide cover for pick-ups and more European models now. It will take a little time but its important to us we are getting there. For Honda CRV (2.4 AWD), we list this as Honda CRV 2.4 Auto 5 speed, which covers both front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. We try hard to make vehicle descriptions accurate while simple enough, but we dont always get it intuitive for everyone, so the feedback is really valuable.

    Thank you

  11. Hi givenall and kmj - We don’t cut any corners on claims service. Our better prices are because we don’t believe good drivers should subsidize bad drivers. We provide better prices to safer drivers and our direct contact model saves on traditional agent sales costs. Claims is the heart of our business. We provide an accident help guarantee and we dedicate a claims service staff to take care of your claim until resolved. They are trained experts and our mission is to be proactive and to keep you informed of the status of your repair or claim payment.

    Thank you

Car Insurance Buying Guide for Those Moving to Thailand

It is compulsory for vehicle owners in Thailand to have car insurance, and you will be required to have at least a Compulsory Motor Insurance (CMI or PorRorBor) policy.

You can buy CMI from the local Department of Land Transport Office (DLT), from car insurance companies and from brokers, including at DirectAsia.co.th. The only information required is your passport number and car details.

CMI however only covers third party liability. You can buy Voluntary Motor Insurance (VMI) to enjoy greater protection.

There are more than fifty insurance companies offering car insurance in Thailand. Products and price are generally similar, in part due to a regulatory tariff, which ensures that premiums charged are within a minimum and maximum tariff. Cheaper “third party plus” products are available but full comprehensive insurance known as Type 1, has become popular due to a high frequency of vehicle damage in Thailand.

Insurance premium is usually based on vehicle factors like make, model, year of manufacture and engine capacity. However, some providers like DirectAsia.com, will seek more details about drivers for more accurate premiums and to help safe drivers save.

Flexible or “any” driver plans are common but if you specify the driver(s) you should get more accurate premiums.

Be aware that you may get to choose an option that allows you to have your car repaired at your preferred workshop, compared with the insurer’s panel of workshops.

If you buy a new car in Thailand on finance, you may feel like you have little choice of insurer due to dealers bundling car, finance and insurance where often you end up with expensive insurance. In this case, it’s worth at least getting a quick comparison quote so you know where you stand. If you are paying cash for a car or it’s a second hand car, you will find much greater freedom of choice.

A new trend is quoting and purchasing car insurance online, owing to its direct and instant nature. Non-Thai speakers may also benefit from information may be presented in English. In the case of DirectAsia Thailand, there is also English speaking support on the Customer Care hotline on Tel: 0-2627-7777. This can be important, especially if you are in an accident and need support at the roadside.

  13. Hi Superal. I am not sure the circumstances, but there is a rule that cars older than 7 years need to be tested at the Dept of Land Transport (Krom Karn Khon Song Tang Bok). At those offices, there are insurance companies that will operate booths or will have authorized agents at booths offering Compulsory Car Insurance on the spot. This is to help car owners who need urgent cover. If you bought from one of these, you should have received your official policy there and the Dept of Land Transport officer would have viewed this in order to pass your car registration and payment. If this is the case, everything sounds fine. There have been cases in the past of unscrupulous and sometimes fake agents selling fake policies, but the regulator has taken measures to prevent that, such as standardized and controlled policy paper across all insurers. It is also a requirement for all Compulsory policies to be updated to a central database in real time. If you feel uncertain at all, you can check the status of your policy by contacting the insurer named on the policy, or by calling the insurance regulator http://www.oic.or.th/th/contact/ on their hotline 1186. There is also a service from the Road Accident Victims Protection Company http://www.rvp.co.th/ which can access the database and their number is 1791. You will need to quote your ID, car plate number or chassis number. Please note that you will need Thai language to use these hotlines. We hope this is helpful.

  15. Jeffrey346 and sometime woodworker - We’re sorry that we could not provide you quotes for your pick-ups. We are working hard on this now and will update in this forum when cover for pick-ups becomes available.

superal – That’s a great and common question. The answer is no, you will need to show evidence of your Compulsory Motor Insurance in order to be able to renew/pay your road tax, it is pre-requisite. For more info call us at 0-2627 7777.

Thank you very much for your replies and comments.

    Have a great Friday!
