Let’s not stray to far from the topic of this post as it is very interesting. We have heard of figures from 20 to 50% down in tourism in Pattaya, golf claims 70% down! TAT claims 18% increase in Thailand!!

So what will happen to Pattaya in the future? As always it’s impossible to know and I have no crystal ball but let’s narrow it down to a handful of possibilities and continue the discussion from there.

1. Pattaya will bounce right up to where it was before and continue to grow both economically and geographically.

2. This year’s level is normal and will stand in the foreseeable future.

3. The decline will slowly continue for some years until a sustainable level is reached.

4. Its over!

Personally I’m a believer of no3. The big Q is how many nailed shut beer bars and hotels Pattaya can take and still be attractive to both customers and “employees”.

And off course in fifty years, when the era of mass tourism is over, it will once again be a fishing village.

Who would gain from an action such as this? Not an easy Q but Muslims would not and Thaksin would not. I think the plot for separatists from the north is to try and make this look like a Muslim action! Then the present administration will get the blame for being unable to control the situation in the South. A great deal of the posters here is currently playing right into the hands of these assassinators!

American resident beaten and robbed from his South Pattaya home.

A disturbing case now from a house in “The Village”, just off Pattaya Third Road. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirichai was called to the house at 4.30 on Tuesday Morning after the house owner, Mr. Lou Plorde aged 70 informed Police that he had been badly beaten inside his house and items had been stolen.

The victim, who alerted Police after he regained consciousness, confirmed to Police that 200,000 Baht in cash had been taken. The case began when he was awoken by two Thai men who had broken into his house and made their way to Mr. Plorde’s 1st floor bedroom.

The two assailants located the cash which was kept in an unsecured bedside cabinet and then left the house after beating the victim into an unconscious state. Police are waiting for Mr. Plorde to recover enough in order for him to make a full statement.

I was in Pattaya for October and November and I normally can’t stand Pattaya for more than a few weeks but as I was almost “alone” it was relaxing and interesting so I stayed a lot longer then normal. I have been in and out of Pattaya since 86 but never have I seen it so empty of tourists. The autumn is perhaps not the high season but I think the glory days of Pattaya are over.

When you see something like this, an unconscious or sick man or woman on the ground, either pass it by not thinking or comment on it later or stop and find out what is going on and if you can be of any assistance. Passing by and later making assumptions and jokes about it is just brainless and bad taste.

Have you ever had the flue? I did a few years back and I was OUT for three weeks! As a result I take the shot every year, if you can avoid the flu by a few € and a sting in your arm that is cheap and a bliss. At the same time I have taken what I can in terms of shots so now I am covered of everything but Jap enf and rabies. Small price to pay and you will be so SORY if you get anything that you could have taken precautions against with just pocket money and a few minutes of time!

What a beauty! I wish that I could but I’m back in Farangland and will be for many months to come. As for Japanese bikes I have very little knowledge as they generally don’t appeal to me but I will goggle for the ones that were suggested. I know off one model called Estrella , think it is a Yamaha, that have the look of a “real” bike.

Tests for HIV and STD how and where to do and how accurate and safe are they? I want to have unprotected sex with my friend next time I come to Thailand in a few months so any suggestions on how and where to do the testing and am this idea realistic and safe?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anybody could help me to locate a freind, he is called Len Teasdale and lives in a condo somewhere around the Jontiem Beach area of Pattaya.

Len is around 60 years of age and is quite a over weight man, he used to live in Liverpool and had retired to Pattaya in November 2004, after holidaying in the area for over the past 20 years, i has lots of Expat friends in Pattaya

We used to keep in contact via email and telephone but i have been unable to contact him for over a year now

If anybody has any infomation o his wherabots i'd be very grateful.
