You can take a Hua Hin bus to Cha-am directly. The bus will pass Cha-am and will let you get off. There are 2 kinds of buses, Por 1 and Por 2. Whne you buy a ticket, buy it at a booth inside the station and choose Por 1. This one will go directly and will not pick up passengers along the way. Por 2 will pick up passengers along the way and takes more time to get to Cha-am. The bus leaves the Southern Bus Terminal every 40 minutes. The ticket cost about 140-150 Baht. (I'm not sure because for Hua Hin it costs 160 Baht).

I love a nice bagel with cream cheese in the morning but I can not find them ANYWHERE. I have looked all over bangkok. They must be here somewhere. Anybody seen them?

I've seen them at Villa Market. They are sold in a pack of three plain bagels for 50 Baht. Another place that I spot selling various kinds of bagels is the Supermarket of Central Chidlom (Ground Floor). They are freshly baked and about 30 Baht a piece.

Been looking for info about having a wedding on a boat in BKK. No luck so far. Anyone has info about it? Found one website, based in Phuket though. Would prefer to stick with BKK since most of the bride's family is based here, and a few senior family members will have to travel from the North.

I don't know how many guests you want to invite for your wedding and what time of day(morning, afternoon, night?) you want to have the wedding. Any way, if the number of your guests are not more than 50, you can check with Wanfah Restaurant near Ratchawongse Pier. I know they have boats with various sizes. They may be able to arrange it for you. I know they also have rice barge river cruise that serve fruits and drink in the afternoon. You may consider this rice barge program and rent it for a private party(your wedding party)

Anyone know anything about this ?  How much to use?  Is it safe?  How long for?

Doesn't it turn the veggies purple?

Been using Boots Water purification tablets but running out soon !  Any ideas welcome.

I'm glad that my reply does something good here.

I've also checked for other things that can be used to clean veggie and fruit from various web sites (Thai language). You can use solution of vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or salt to clean veggie. This will reduce the chemicals left on the veggie. However, one web site states that Sodium bicarbonate (Baking soda) does much better to reduce left-over chemicals on veggie by 90%.

To clean veggie by Baking soda, dissolve 1 tablespoon of Baking soda in approx. 4 litre of water. Then soak well-rinsed veggie leaves for about 15-20 minutes. Then rinse well before eating. The key thing is of course, using clean water to clean your veggie too.

ไม่จำเป็นจะต้องไปซื้อหาเครื่องล้างผักใช้โอโซนหรือใช้น้ำยาล้างผักราคาแพง มีวิธีง่ายๆ ในการล้างผักให้สะอาด ซึ่งมีคนเคยทำการศึกษาวิจัยมาแล้วพบว่าสามารถกำจัดสารพิษหรือยาฆ่าแมลงไปได้มาก ซึ่งก็ได้แก่ การล้างด้วยผงฟู หรือน้ำส้มสายชู หรือเกลือ หรือด่างทับทิม หรือการล้างด้วยน้ำเปล่า

วิธีที่น่าจะดีที่สุดในการล้างผักคือการใช้ผงฟู ใช้ผงฟูหรือโซเดียมไบคาร์โบเนต หรือโซดาไบคาร์โบเนตที่หาซื้อได้ตามร้านค้าทั่วไปนี่แหละเติมลงในอ่างล้างผักหรืออ่างขนาดกลางสักหนึ่งช้อนโต๊ะหรือหนึ่งช้อนซุป เติมน้ำให้เกือบเต็มอ่าง แล้วแกะผักเป็นใบๆ ลงไปแช่ไว้ อย่าเพิ่งหั่นผักก็แล้วกัน แช่ผักไว้สัก 15-20 นาที จะกำจัดสารพิษออกไปได้เกือบ 90% ซึ่งถือว่ากำจัดไปได้มาก

แช่ผักเสร็จตามเวลาที่กำหนดแล้วก็ให้ล้างน้ำเปล่าอีกสักหนึ่งครั้ง ผักจะสะอาดพอที่จะนำไปบริโภคได้โดยไม่เกิดปัญหา ส่วนวิธีการล้างผักด้วยน้ำส้มสายชูหรือเกลือ ก็ใช้วิธีเดียวกัน คือเติมลงไปสักหนึ่งช้อนโต๊ะ เกลือหรือน้ำส้มสายชูหรือผงฟูจะทำหน้าที่ลดแรงตึงผิวระหว่างผักกับสารพิษ ทำให้สารพิษหลุดออกมาจากผักได้

การล้างด้วยน้ำส้มสายชูนั้น มีบางคนแนะนำให้แช่นานถึง 40 นาทีจะช่วยลดสารพิษลงไปได้มาก ทั้งน้ำส้มสายชู ทั้งเกลือ โดยปกติจะลดสารพิษได้น้อยกว่าโซดาไบคาร์โบเนต จึงอาจจะต้องใช้เวลาในการแช่ผักนานกว่า

ส่วนการล้างด้วยน้ำเปล่านั้น แนะนำให้ล้างผักด้วยน้ำผ่านหลายๆ น้ำ จะช่วยลดสารพิษลงไปได้ หรืออาจจะใช้วิธีการลวกผักด้วยน้ำร้อนแค่ให้ผักสลบแล้วล้างด้วยน้ำเย็นสักสองสามครั้ง สารพิษก็จะออกไปได้พอสมควร ปฏิบัติเพียงเท่านี้ก็ได้ผักสะอาดปลอดภัยไว้บริโภคได้แล้ว

I know that there is a veggie cleanning solution sold in a supermarket. I used it and it was okay. However, I forgot the name of this product. For me I use Baking soda to clean my veggie. I use Potassium Permanganate soemtimes.

For Potassium permanganate or Dang Tub Tim in Thai, use only a few amount (about the size of the head of a match stick for a litre of water). Dissolve it in water first and then soak your already well-rinsed veggie in the solution for about 10 minutes. Caution, it is better with green leaf veggie because it won't turn purple. If you plan to soak iceberg lettuce, I'm afraid it may turn purple. After 10 minutes, rinse your veggie well then it should be fine to eat. IMO, it is quite safe and it will kill bacteria and some insects that come with your veggie, assuming you buy your veggie at the local market. If you buy your veggie from supermarkets (i.e. Tops, Villa, Lotus, Carre Fourre) and it is organically grown, then I think Baking Soda should be okay.

I Think the second poem is โคลงสี่สุภาพ and it must be in this form ka.

ครื้นครื้นใช่ฟ้าร้อง เรียมครวญ

หึ่งหึ่งใช่ลมหวล พี่ไห้

My folks are coming over in 2 weeks for my wedding. They will be in Bangkok for 3 nights and i need to find a half decent hotel. I think around 2000 baht but a little flexible. Must have an outdoor pool. Any ideas? I dont know Sukhumvit that well to be honest. But it should be within walking distance to Suk Soi 7. Cheers. In advance.

Many Thai letters are supposedly classified as rare...How rare is rare?  comparable to x? q? z?

I know there are lists of how common english letters are (http://www.santacruzpl.org/readyref/files/g-l/ltfrqeng.shtml)...anything similar for thai?

Additionally, what exactly does obsolete mean? If it is really obsolete, then why is the letter on a keyboard?  Would you ever encounter ฦ or would it always be replaced with ลื in modern writing?

I think obsolete means we don't use it any more in writing. For example, we don't put "khor kuad" and "kor kon" on Thai keyboard. Don't know why we don't use them any more. Those who know the reason, pleae enlighten me! We also don't use these two alphabets in normal textbooks(school materrials). However, some people and scholars try to use "kor kon" for the word "kon" (human) instead of using ค because we call this letter "kor kwai" (water buffalo). This is just my idea. Maybe worng.

Next month a new Thai magazine will come out and its name is "Kor Kon".
